No no, the cast was scheduled to come off this morning anyway, so that gives me the go-ahead to act like an ass again.

HEy Charlie, can you post up a pic of your cyclops.
Mitch was just telling me that he remembers it being "pretty sweet".
I would like to see it.

Yeah, that is one damn nice looking bike. That one last week on eBay was nice but the sloping toptube on yours just looks wicked.

More importantly, MINI BIKE RACES tomorrow night! Christ, am I the only one who appreciates the comedy of grown men and women racing on what basically amounts to clown bikes? And add to that liberal amounts of alcohol ... it's a recipe for sucess AND disaster.
What time again Man..... I'm on the finish at 9 shift but it's pretty quiet at night usually maybe I can pop out and come. Yea that Cyclops is a nice lookin' ride. Shiz ... you gonna take that too the track one day and really open it up with no fear of toe or traffic?

I was going to take it last time I went but we only had Wes' car and it does not have a bike rack. Next time for sure. I just need to put a road stem and drops on it because I don't think they let you ride with bullhorns unless you're doing a timed event, and the track bars/stem drop WAY too much!

hmmm... seems like I may have a superfluous almost brand new nitto jaguar alloy stem. I can't be bothered to get 25.4 road drop bars to fit in it, and I don't want to put mountain bars into it. And I only have one threaded fork bike.

Hey thanks,
that is one pretty bike.
I though my wheel came close to the down tube... hitting a pothole or and sharp edge the wheel would probably come up and rub against the frame, guess that bike is strictly for the track.
oh yea, cool half-link chain aswell, that thing looks strong, like the chains that pull you up on a roller coaster

It only looks that way because I'm running fatty 23c tires.
oh yea? 23 ain't too fat. man just looked at it again, it's like 3mm from the tube, in the outdoor full bike pic you can harldy see the gap.
I can fit the tip of my pinky finger in between my tire and frame

My secret is that its actually a touring frame I crashed badly into the side of a bus.
PS. I was at the property management expo today and I noticed there was a mapei booth so I grabbed as much free stuff as possible. Anyone want some cycling related epoxy grout samples?

What to do, what to do. Seems my employeers decided I was underpaid forthe past 3 months and paid me retroactively today. After paying off large debts, seems I have about $500 left to blow on bike stuff. The dilema is, do I get a nice hub and wheel build and fix the sexy beast, or buy a complete bike (or close there to). I could get a fix all done from Cyclemania for that price, or try Cavern, I think Keith has a fuji in my size for $500. I love the Wheeler, a great ride and I've put lots of work into getting it set up as a bombproof s/s, but it would also be nice to have a bike I can ride and not worry about which part needs fixing or replacing.
Help.

From someone claiming that they saw the Galvez accident:
posted Yesterday
I was there on Saturday night, on what should have been a fantastic weekend with family and friends. At 12.30am (Sunday morning), we left Kuipke shocked and saddened at what we had just seen happen.
I have to say that the medical teams, who actually were the red cross, seemed woefully inadequate, and it took them approximately 5 minutes to get a defibrilater to Galvez. The equipment needed was not even at the trackside. The poor man then had the indignity of being plunged off the stretcher onto the floor as they tried to run with him.
In what is a premier sporting spectacle, surely the medical situation has to be looked at in the future. Fortunately incidents like this are rare, but in cycling there is always a risk. The initial moments after a crash are critical. Unfortunately they seemed to be lost, with a lot of headless chickens running around no knowing what to do.
Our thoughts go out to the Galvez family, in what is obviously a most distressing time. I hope it is something I never have to witness again. Unless you ride and race a bike, I dont think you can comprehend the sight of a rider lying on the floor with a doctor pumping his chest and performing CPR.
RIP Isaac

You want fixed gear? If you want geared I'd say try out the new KHS flite 220s. IK was talking to Brent at Europe Bound and he said he was going to get in a ton of them in different sizes. I pretty much got as excited as him when he showed it to me in the catalogue and said it was only 520 bucks MSRP!
If you want fixed gear, then I'd first check at cavern to get that fuji, then I'd consider one of the khs flite 100/mercier messenger/spicer bikes. I love my flite 100, but the drivetrain and wheels that came on it were pretty junky.
PS. 500 dollars burning a hole through your pocket is not a dilemma.

Dilemma was what to spend it on, not should I spend it or not. I figure that dropping $3000 on bills and tuition today was a good enough deed, and bike rewards are fully justified.

Yeah I like brent, and europe bound on front is really the only bike shop I can walk to during lunch and still have time to eat lunch. I'll make sure to ask him about that story (but I'll do it in a roundabout fashion so he end up saying "SPEAKING OF EQUINES, I COULD KNIT A TEA COZY FROM THE YARN I'M ABOUT TO SPIN FOR YOU!")
That sounded funnier in my head.

Yeah, he is a good guy and never seems to lose patience with me, even though I ask him about 15 million questions whenever I am in there. When I told him I had an old Ciocc roadbike, he got pretty excited. A sure sign of a good mechanic is a love of what they do.

I knew he was special when he spent 15 minutes with me digging through piles of tires so that we could find a 25 dollar set he took off a complete bike a few months earlier. I was about to give up before him, but he kept looking and found them. He definitely has his work cut out for him down in that basement.

Wow nice
The fuji looks ok, great out the door price & ready to go. Add parts later down the line as needed.
The e-bay bikes by the time it gets here it would be over 5 bills.
Keep an eye on c/l but by the time you see one you like your money will be long gone.
I also remember cyclemania Danforth having budget fixies. But take a look at urbane for there brand & the KHS 100 witch is great.
Cheers

If it were me and I had $500 to blow on a track bike....I would save up a bit more and get something nice. For $800 there is a lot more to choose from and at that price range you get more bang for your buck.
You can always go the eBay route and get a nice deal on a used bike too, many of us have done that without too many problems.
I've checked out the Cyclemania bikes and they are a good price but I thought they looked a bit sketchy, particularly the geometry, which seemed pretty roadish to me.
Keep your eyes glued to CL, obviously, some stuff comes up now and then.

First thing I did was check e-bay. Not much on right now, and after dollar conversion, shipping and customs, cost the same to buy something here. And CL hasn't had much my size recently, or ever really. I am leaning to getting a good 135mm hub, fixing the mtb. Would be easy, has horizontal drops, and with the double chainring crank and the 2 b/b's I have, getting a perfect chainline would be easy.

i would say try getting a decent used road frame for cheap (ebay is good for this, or ask keith what he has in the basement) and spend your money on wheels. keep in mind that with those off the peg track bikes, the builders usually skimp on things like headsets and bottom brackets so they may wear out faster, even if they are new.

135mm fix surly hubs, can I order one from you? Can't remeber your last PM/email regarding this.

I talked to my Royal York buddy and they are not looking for anyone at the moment but he said he would let me know as soon as an opening comes up. I do have a friend who owns a Beer Pub/Restaurant who is looking for a cook...let me know if you are interested and I will give you his info.

If you want to go the build something nicer route let me know...I can give you an IRO Jamie Roy frameset and some nice wheels for the $ you have to spend. Only gets you halfway there but would be way nicer than anything off the peg. Oh.... Sorry I keep forgetting to bring yer tube and patch kit to hockey.
