7degrees tomorrow!? sweet!
I can't remember the name, but there is a vietnamese sub shob in china town too..They raised their prices to $1.50 for a foot long sub...(last year they were $1). I don't want to know or care what they put in the subs, but they taste good and I'm sure they are packed with goodness!

i think there are 4 of the saigon sub stores all on the same block but my favourite one (co yen) closed its doors awhile ago... it's funny how every store raised their prices at the same time though. it was something like over-night!! hmmm..... but a buck-fiddy is still cheap. i love the mass of bikes locked up on that corner (SW spadina/dundas) between the old ladies selling their home grown.. whatta mess.
7C for critical mass tomorrow??

They listed a whole bunch of em in a Now magazine cheap eats issue. Boom....increase in price. A whole $1.50 fer a samitch....how am I gonna get my kids thru college? Soon Gails will increase their burger/milkshake/pie combo up from the $6 it is now and I will be screwed.

They just moved. And that $1.50 thing, the china town triads got to them... HEH.
One store has better subs than the other. In fact i'm eating one right now.

haha nice.
right back at you.
today's not chinese new years is it.....!? edit- sunday.

and as for viet bun shops in Scarborough.
The only one that crosses my mind is the shop that supplies for all the TNT shops,
and thats located @ Middlefield and Steeles right beside TNT.
I'm sure there's other locations, but I just haven't spotted any others.

man... I get the shivers each time I open up my viet bun to pick out the nasty green stuff.
the spreaded lard all pasty and pale brown. urg.
I saw them making my sandwich once. The lard comes in a long roll and they just cut some off and spread it all over the bun. yum.

and as for cheapest eats:
IKEA & COSTO yea! + they have self-refills!

hey guys!!
I swear I am going to hang around here more regularly! How are things going? I haven't popped in here since New Years day. I switched to working afternoons at my "DAY" job 6pm-2am and getting used to the schedule has kinda wiped me out for a few weeks.

But I am really hungry and want pork buns..LOTS of pork buns..so if anyone is going on early afternoon bun runs I'm in :)

JEREMY! Awesome to see you on the board too!
Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well!!

RoB

nice to be here rob. when are we going riding again? i'd be up for a pork bun run one afternoon. give me a shout. i thought we'd lost you for a while there; the last few TFG rides have not had the highest attendance however. you did miss our last official one, the "scotch and snow" ride to feathers pub on kingston road.

that reminds me: a favourite pub in the east end, feathers. old school brit pub whose claim to fame is having over 450 single malts behind the bar, some of which is exclusive to feathers.

other than that - whelans gate at bloor near high park. and the green room if i feel like getting drunk and feeling like a student again.

you know, collingwood is not *that far* from michael stadtlander's "eigensinn farm" in singhampton.

you could also detour via mono hills (peter cellar's pub), hockley valley (woodside grill) and creemore...

YIKES, that's crazy.
I've seen that girl our office before, flirted with her even... not like every other office dork probably hasn't, but she seems good humoured. I'm shocked and amazed that it was all captured the way it was.
With my job I'm never out on the streets in the middle of a weekday so I never see what kind of crazy action happens out there, but this is nuts.

I know her. Her name is Leah and fer all the flirtatious boys out there she has a boyfriend. That guy is lucky her BF wasn't on the scene or things would shurely have gotten badly out of hand.

On the used bikes front there is only 1 bike left from the first load, this s#!ts moving quick. The remaining one is a 58cm pink Miele. It is complete except for wheels. I wont be getting any more for 3 weeks.

Ahh, more are coming in - good to hear. I'm swamped doing renovations these days but I'll be able to make time to come in for the next shipment.

Keith what's your selection of used forks looking like these days? I'm looking for:
- 1" threaded
- 38mm rake
- 170mm steerer tube length

Urbane quoted me $65 for one of their Urbanite forks and there's an option from the states that'll run $50USD + shipping. If you think you might have some options, please let me know.

Where's a good spot in town for pickin parts? I have a Cramerotti frame I think I want to turn into either a Gold Sprint Bike, or an SS for the road. Recycle in the East is always closed since someone tried to rob Paulie. I heard he had a gun waved in his face, must freaked him out something serious as I've never seen the place open since.

I WILL not goto Ivan's in the west.

Can I make a flip wheel with fixed on one side and a BMX freewheel on the other?

are there are rock climbers in the house? I used to climb back in Newfoundland both in a gym as well as outdoors. I've been wanting to get back into it, but I don't have anyone that's willing to be a regular climbing partner.

I love to climb, but I'm pretty novice. I've done it a handful of times, but I don't have any gear at the moment. I'd love to do some outdoor stuff in the summer though. I would pick up some shoes and a harness, etc. if I had a group to go with.

Ivans? I think you mean Igor's... the damned pirate that he is. You should, alternatively, check out 'Parts Unknown' in kensington market - it's in a shed at the back of a driveway that runs west off of augusta street, just north of baldwin. George, the guy who runs it, is great. Bring your patience though.

Word.

The used fork situation is heinous at the moment. All the Miele forks I have left are too short for yer needs. The only fork I have in 1" is a Profile ARC carbon....it is threaded but I would have to thread it a couple of inches to give it the right length. Brand new....$100. Oh...the rake is 43 mm tho.

Try Clay at Cogs Cycle. Gerrard at Howland Rd. About 4 blocks east of Broadview. He has all kinds of used stuff.
Yes....you can use a flip flop hub with fixed on one side and BMX on the other. The only caveat is most of the econo flip flop hubs are total crap. Formula is the best bet.

Cool thanks...the more scavenger holes the better. It's been years since I got rid of my road baby, and frankly I miss the effortless speed and acceleration. Braking in the rain....not so much.....lol Formula Hubs... got it, can't have the hubs blowing up. I'm actually thinkin' about pimpin' this one and makin' it stupid sick...lol Hey 40 this year... I need a toy....this way I can gold sprint with Bobby, Petey, Albert and those lads, get loaded flip the wheel and ride home..

any suggestions from those in the know as too how much these Formula hubs run...and perchance which model is right for my fixed/SS flip flop

as a side note, if you didn't know.. IRO hubs = formula. Correct me if I'm wrong. So, you could use this (http://www.irocycle.com/wheels.html) as a guide.

AAaahahaha - yeah.... it's a friggin' crime. The one day I didn't ride in to work, and... *POOF*... warm!

On the deep-v tip, I'm desperately looking for a source on a set of the white-powdercoated 32h deep-v rims to build up some wheels for a friend of mine. I've asked around, and spoken to Velocity, and aparently there's no Canadian distributor. I got a yellow one from urbane a while back (they had astack of yellows), but can't find any deeps in any other colors.

Thoughts anyone?

you could power-coat some un-coloured ones:

Spectrum Powder Coaters

63 Medulla Avenue,
Etobicoke, ON M8Z 5L6
Tel. : 416-622-4595

or you could always keep it old school. ;)

Silly thought: order a set from the US? :)

And yeah, being inside today sucks. It was actually really nice for riding this morning as well, even though it was much colder. But at least there was no wind... that's my main criteria. :) I had to go to city hall to take care of some stuff before I went to work and it took all my will power to ride up Bay Street instead of just pissing off and going for a ride.

I rode my bike, but I did yoga at lunch and I'm meeting friends right after work. So, no riding for me.. Well, not until I ride home half in the bag later this evening anyway. :P

I haven't been to CM in months either... I keep making plans on those days. I'm s-m-r-t.

35, 35 minutes to go-oh-oh,
I wanna be sedated!

Powdercoating - in a pinch that could work... but will probably end up more 'spensive than just ordering a set of Vees in from the states, which is looking pricey - I got quoted about $80-$90 per rim. Ouchie.

Ordering from the states... see above ;)

If it were my ride, I'd not be too particular about the color, but my friend wants me to build him an excessively white bike, and once he saw the white V's on a ride on FGG, he fell in love. I'm building a bike for his roomie too, all stealth black. I think I'm going to name them Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes... can't get enough of that shiznit.

In other news: anyone see this insanity yet?! http://www.citynoise.org/article/2770 (whoops! just caught my repost on this one...)

...makes me sad...

Anyone here going to see the Constantines tonight?

Anyone here going to see the Constantines tonight?

Well let's see. My gf is currently going out for a "you just broke up with your junkie boyfriend" beer with her best friend, which I'm guessing will turn into quite a few beers. So I'm riding solo tonight.

Here's a quick tip for all you guys who might be in a similar situation:

If you're an opium addict, don't say you're going to quit and clean up just before your week-long vacation to Cuba and then decide at the last minute that you're going to smuggle your drugs across the border. Furthermore, don't get your gf hauled off the line by Cuban customs agents and searched for hours. Then, when you say you're not going to do the drugs you brought with you and you're done with all that ****, don't just up and start doing them a few hours later. Finally, when the maid steals your drugs the next day, don't go around to all the hotel staff begging to get them back. And really don't go down to the front desk and demand that your opium be returned from the maid who you think stole it. Oh, and then don't get all sketchy for the rest of the week and then get high the minute you walk in the door back in Canada.

That ****'ll get your ass dumped pronto.

ok i'm confused.. the customs guys let him KEEP the drugs?!??!? i was in cuba last year and they didn't even let me keep the nectarines that were in my carry-on.

They didn't search him. They searched her. And then they let her go once some other tourist made the fatal mistake of saying something that was construed as confrontational.

Well, I guess someone else in TO has a dark grey spicer. I didn't think it was shiznaz, but I wasn't certain.
Thats Emilio and yes.......he is a newbie.

I'm not that much of a newbie, am I?
