A quick hit by a car story... i'm coming over the leaside bridge from work, approaching the fork in the road (where it splits onto Donlands/Pape) and I need to continue along Donlands (need to cut over a lane of traffic to do so), shoulder check... shoulder check again... making my way over and BAM. I'm on my ass, pick myself, my bike and my ipod off the road and head to the side. The guy stopped thankfully. I dusted myself off, checked over the bike nothing wrong that i could see (bike first, me second... priorities). Scraped elbow, scraped hip, nothing major. The guy insisted on giving me 50 bucks and we were both on our way.

Hindsight - 2 broken spokes, wheel out of true, some scraped paint, grip ripped, torn coat and a very sore body the next day. I should have taken all of his info. Lesson learned. Next time.

So I'm still riding my phuked up Surly to work out of spite. You just can't kill that bike. I'm getting the damage assessed by the Mechs at Curbside on Monday, and then sending to bill to my hitter. Can't wait to get it back to normal. Need new rims, new TT lever, and some new bar tape.

If you need a s/s wheel to get by on let me know, I have one you can use.

sweet. I wish I was that good at something!

Today looks like a nice time to leisurely do my errands. another global warming day so this might be your last chance for some nice weather riding until late december!

Had to be your Smoke I saw on Queen today outside the Mac store. Singleator, no seat, mile wide bar, triple crank still. Nice looking bike

Thanks for the offer guys. That's real nice of you. luckily for me I don't have far to go to work (<300m). I have a feeling I'll get to know my Fetish a bit more this week.

I'm up for a coffee.. but likely not until late this morning or early this afternoon. I have to go pick up a couple final things for xmas this afternoon and wrap them, then finish packing for my trip (leave tomorrow).

haha yeah that one is mine alright. I sourced a triple crank for it so today I am in search of 2 SS rings in 110. I'm going to replace the QR seat collar so I don't have to carry around the seatpost and saddle, and I may cut the bars down a little, but I'm going to hold off on that for now.

Queen was pretty crazy yesterday. All the shoppers are out idling and hunting for parking spaces. Bikes are far superior.

Perfect. I was going to swing by there to get a chainwhip anyways.

Now a tough question. I have this chain tensioner (branded Axiom)
http://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=1329

Does anyone know if it would be possible to use another jockey pulley which I would slide onto the spindle to allow me to get perfect chainline with 2 cogs and 2 chainrings? Seems like the best all round solution. Anyone got an old or broken derailleur with some pulleys I could try to adapt?

That tensoner adjusts in/out. You should be able to move it when you shift the chain easily. I'm not sure a pulley wheel will work. Seems to be a square edge where the wheel is in the pic, pulley wheels are round. Best bet is to check lbs for one and go from there. Keeping my 7 speed deraileur for wifes bike if I ever build one for her.

It does adjust in and out but I don't want to have to dig up an allen key every time I want to change gears. I made a diagram of how it works. That square edge doesn't really serve a purpose other than giving you something to stick a wrench on if you want to seriously overtension the bolt (number 1 on the diagram). I think all I have to do is insert an extra pulley next to where the original one is. If I got a replacement set of pulleys I'd be able to ditch the cheap pulley that came with it and have 2 good quality with bearings instead.

1. allen bolt
2. cheap plastic pulley and metal seals (no bearings)
3. chain guide
4. female threaded spindle
5. allen bolt
6. tensioner arm
7. spring and attachment hardware

Hhehe, cool, thanks. I really like the Alter's stiffness and I am surprised that I can notice such a big difference between it and the generic thing I had on before. I just hope it doesn't break like they are known for doing.

Yeah, I got it on eBay. If another cheap one pops up, I will get it, I dig it a lot. This one ends soon and is cheap so far, just not the colour I want.

10 years old.

Healthy, approximately 10 lbs.
Very friendly and loveable.

Are they really THAT prone to break? I mean they look wicked cool, but if they're that unreliable, I'll just stick with what I have now. God knows that must be frightening as all hell if your stem snaps in the middle of a ride (and then factor your speed of travel into the 'scariness' factor)

check this out guys at Cyclepath on Yonge/Eglinton, they have a bike sale, bikes are 50% off, I was almost tempted to buy that Pinarello Prince w/ Campy Chorus Component and Ksyrium Elite will set, the price tag was $5,600.00, at 50% off that's a real bargain, I didn't buy it because the size was big for me it's size 56 c-c...

Hard to say how prone they are but when I mentioned buying one in this thread a little while ago, Cavernmech (I think) said he had a friend who'd had one snap on him. Also, someone mentioned it in the road forums. So, that is two people on these forums, take that for what it is and make your decision. I like mine alot :)

btw. don't forget peeps, scotch tasting, Dec 29th, my place. If there's any discussion about it in the next week, don't expect a response from me since I'll be away.

As for the cat offer, I already have two, and I think that's pretty much the limit in my apartment (cats outnumbering people = creepy). :P Thank goodness my housemates are also cat people so it's easy to have someone look after things while I'm away!

See y'alls when I get back. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't miss the snow ride! The forecast looks like it's going to be a green xmas. :)

Cheers!

Got a look at the current state of your bike in the photo thread super nice *but if i were you witch i’m not I’d scrape(gently remove) the rest of the logos off if possible presto "stealth" the fork sets it off for me & i like the odd stem.

Also while i’m talking I’d like to add.

We had a beautiful day here so the wife kicked me out told me to for a ride witch i did & put some km's on the road bike along Collins bay hwy 33 water front all the way it was a nice ride first time in a long time.

btw. don't forget peeps, scotch tasting, Dec 29th, my place. If there's any discussion about it in the next week, don't expect a response from me since I'll be away

I'll keep a running list of atendees and their prospective contributions, flavour-wise.

Have fun on holidays amigo; may your head remain bird crap free.

If it's on your neck, just shave it off the neck. It doesn't itch so much if you keep it on your chin.

I might be down for the tasting. I'll have to figure out what good scotch looks like first.
