Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I got three cycling dvds for Giftmas:
- Pure Sweet Hell (artsy/kickass cyclocross documentary)
- Transition (follows some riders over the course of a cyclocross season)
- Crash! (roadies dying all over the place)
I can also bring some stuff from the Cycle Therapy library if anyone has something in mind.
PS. I could also use a (cheap/good) booze recommendation for Friday.

Awesome! I actually really want to see Pure Sweet Hell. I saw on the Velotique website that they have copies there, so I was going to see about renting it. Definitely bring those. The only other film that I can think of off the top of my head that's been in my "to watch" pile is A Sunday In Hell.

The best part of "A Sunday in Hell" is the begining. No music. Just footage of the team mechanic cleaning and tuning the race bike. A good 5-10 minutes of highend vintage road bike.
Gotta love the BB attached work stand and (horse hair?) cleaning brush.

Woohoo! I got a pair of NOS 90's Ambrosio polished rims today for a ridiculously good price!! I'm glad to decided to take a look at Cyclepath near my parent's house in Mississauga! I got a new camera too to replace my old one that died in an accidental salt water bath so I'll post some bike pictures soon. Have fun with the scotch tasting. Later dudes.

I met a German and a Frenchman today on their way to India on their bikes from their respective countries. They were really nice and gave me their website addresses. gave me some good ideas for my own tour, although they were (sensibly) on mountain bikes.

Got me real excited. Looked like they were having the time of their lives. I let them know how cool I thought their trip was and asked them all kinds of things about their bikes.

No, I was waiting outside of the post office while my dad was buying stamps (we drove there), and they rolled up and asked which letter box to use to send letters out of the country. I asked if they were nervous of the drivers in dubai, who are by far the worst, most dangerous, most inconsiderate drivers I have EVER experienced, bar none, and they said no way, the drivers in Tehran are way worse! I really admire those guys!

I think you're getting too fancy.. ;) I'm likely going to make some salsa and guac, just because those are good munchie foods. Not sure what else.

i think home made salsa is fancier than oat cakes which i can just buy and open. voila. yeah so let me know if you need anything. i'm assuming in addition to the scotch, this will be a BYOFTG (bring your own favourite tasting glass) affair?

I posted a reply earlier, but apparently it didn't get submitted properly.
Homemade salsa is fancier food yes, but I meant that your suggestion of "neutral and palette cleansing" foods was fancy. :)
And yeah, feel free to bring your own glass if you're going to be a snob. ;) I'm actually going to try and pick up some rocks glasses tomorrow. If that fails, juice glasses it is!

okay, i'll refrain from using the phrase "palate cleansing" from now on. as for being a snob, i plan on bringing my own glass (and a pipe and discussing chaucser ad nauseum) so there!
let me know if you don't pick up glasses and i can bring some (but they're from the gas station and have chewbakka on them).

I'll be bringing a bottle (well, half a bottle) of Glenmorangie Cellar 13 which I'd be happy to see get a new owner and some Aberlour A'bunadh. I'll also bring some spring water and I brought some bison sausages back from god's country if anyone's interested.

here i was thinking that everyone would be on their best behaviour.
if you want to post the brand / genre of scotch you've got i'll keep a running list.
One bottle of Laphroaig....one bottle of Lagavulin. Both Islay malts. While there aren't really any "economy" single malts may I suggest either Oban (Western Highland) or Dalwhinnie ( Highland). Both of these are part of the "Classic Malts of Scotland" series and tend to be a few bucks cheaper. That and I heart highland malts. The most affordable will prolly be Glenlivet and Glenfiddich.

seconded on the danwhinne. my humble recomendation is the Balvenie (a little more economy), or Balvenie double wood.

Yo guys, where in Toronto can I get a manual drip coffee maker, like the ones you see in some Vietnamese restaurants? TIA

I took a spill tonight at King and Bathurst. An SUV did a u-turn right in front of me and I barely dodged it; I had to turn into the curb and I hit it and bounced off. No damage at all to me or the bike but the elastic thingy on the little turtle light I use in the rear broke. Bummer. The funny thing is that it was about midnight and the SUV had no lights at all, not even day-time running lights, making me think it was someone up from the states who isn't really used to Toronto driving. And yeah, no signal of course.
I had two bottles of vodka in my pack which would have really pissed me off if they broke but nope, they are fine ;)

Check that store just north of Pho Hung on the west side of Spadina, they have them. It is the store with all the baskets and kitchen-ware out in front, they have everything in that store at very cheap prices. A friend of mine bought a whole bunch of Hienkel knives there for half the cost that most of the majors price them at.

your first stop should be Tap Phong (360 Spadina, south of College); high end models will cost you a whopping $5, the cheap one's $2. Both work fine. Enjoy.

It's this kinda info I can only get on a forum about bicycles. Thanks jet & jeremy! And sorry to hear about your accident jet. I was out driving tonight and saw a bunch of odd cager maneuvers. Be careful out there.

Yes, so much for the half-life of the holiday spirit. Riding back along College from Wes's place was interesting last night. A run through Little Italy with all the chi chi restaraunt/club folks posing on the sidewalk or driving like pinheads with their gump-mobiles. Props to those who came to Wes's and sipped the scotch. Very yummy and we'll have to do it again.
Glad you're okay jet.

That's the Natrel rink we go to. It's the closest rink to us. Less crowded too.

Thanks guys, I am glad I am okay too ;)
I should probably run a front brake for emergencys like this, how is fixed with a brake? It still takes longer to stop right? It would just for a control thing I am guessing.
