i've kinda made it a policy to not ride the first major snowfall of the season. people are just too unprepared. especially since it's a monday.
so i took transit. a >10 min ride = 30 min on the streetcar. argh.
on the way home i was given a token, but steps out of the building i ran into a friend that is a courier. oh the shame! then i took one look at the sardines packed into the streetcar and opted to walk instead. was very glad for the proper hiking boots, coat etc i wore.

Whew I don't know if I'm up for the ride tonight guys. My knee is kinda sore and after working 8 hours in this stuff I've kind of had my fill of snow riding. I might show up and then just not do the whole thing. I haven't decided yet. Just givin' a heads up.
So far for London I'm assuming these are the people that want to go:
Me, Duppy, Tovi, Lymbzero(?), Dr. Benway, Offhoff
If I got a car, I would be able to fit 4 passengers as long as someone didn't mind sitting in the middle in the back seat.
It doesn't have to be this weekend, actually it might be better for it to be another weekend for me and maybe that might be better for you too Shamil (I probably mispelled your name again sorry). Would the 27th better than the 20th for any of you guys? Anyone else want to go?

I'll up the anty but suggesting a post ride pint some place
Due to unforseen circumstances, I'm bailing on tonight's ride. I had this thing at 7PM tonight, so I went by Bloor/Spadina to pick up my bike lock (I leave it locked to the post-and-rings by itself) en route to the Ref. Lib., but my lock is FROZEN!! I couldn't get it to unlock, so I really had no choice but to ditch the meeting and come back home. F*ck, I'm so annoyed. I really have nothing to do in town b/w 7 and 9, so I'm ditching the ride with you guys, too. Sorry.
On a brighter note, it's a helluva lot of fun out there right now. Find some quiet roads and you'll be sliding all over the place! Wee! And cars are being super patient and careful in passing me, which is nice to see.
Enjoy yourselves out there!!

Suckzores to all you guys that bailed on the snow ride
It was major fun. As you know, only 3 people came, including myself, but it was still worth it. We decided against the spit for the ride since only a couple of people came, but we got out inebriation on, and slopped around town. We went out east. Drink. Went north, and then west. Climbed a parking structure. Drink. Rode down. Etc.
Thanks for coming out guys. I had fun. I hope you did too. *Awwwwww*
If anyone is serious about doing some other winter rides (doesn't have to be the spit), I'm totally down.
P.S. Will post some pics tomorrow, so you can see what you missed.

I don't miss that aspect of being in a kitchen everyday. My hands finally look normal again.
Fun ride tonight, only 1 or 2 less than graceful dismounts. Perhaps 42/14 was a tad high for some of the roads. Oh well.
My drivetrain is a bit goopy after the ride tonight and I store the bike in a shed outside. Whats the best way to clean after a ride in these conditions as it won't get a chance to drip clean(ish)?
Anyone know a Toronto stockist for Midge bars? They have been discussed in this forum so I thought maybe...

Sounds like you guys had a blast I'm sorry I missed it! After work yesterday I put my bike in the shower and ran some hot water on it. Then I scrubbed it and dried it. Then I washed the tub (!). I have nowhere to leave it but the hallway and I couldn't let it destroy the floor. That is another reason why I didn't come, I spent so long cleaning the damn thing it made me pretty cranky and I didn't want to have to do it again.
You guys should have followed me around at work yesterday. Now THAT was a snow ride! I really should have taken pics of my bike it looked like a giant salty icicle. Sorry I didn't make it last night my knee is still sore right now so its good I didn't go. Yes the post time is correct it is 4:40, I woke up and am having a snack before grabbing a few more hours. Later dudes.

Yea but you rode all day right? So, no wonder you didn;t come out for the snow, as you'd been in it all day. Back in my day I'd have in the bottom of a beer pitcher after a day like yesterday. Knees hurting from crankin all day?

Had I known you weren't going to go down to the spit I likely would have come too.. since my only options are my Lemond (which ain't going out in the slush) and my urbanite (23c and 46x16), the thought of riding to the spit and back in that slop sounded painful, mentally and physically. Plus I had a cranky-bastard sort of Monday and came home with a nasty headache from clenching my teeth. yay!
I'm definitely up for more winter rides. Weather dependent I'm planning on either doing shorter fixed rides in the city, or starting to get back out of the city on my road bike again.

Danhalen I do want to come I"m just pointing out that doing track 1 and 2 at the same time would mean you'd be caught up to what other people have done. I'm glad to hear that the snow ride was fun, I went out for a mini ride to get to a friend's house last night on my s/s mtb and it was great fun slipping and sliding around. 27th is fine for me if thats the day to head off to the track.
So I called up Forest City Velodrome and they said they no longer do Track 1 and Track 2 in the same session, even if we're coming from out of town. He gave me reasons why they don't do it anymore, but I'l spare you. But they have them.
Anyways, I was told to get in touch with Daryl (dwawenger@yahoo.ca), who books and teaches Track 1. I was told that Saturday's are pretty "mental", and the earliest date we could book was Feb. 3rd. As for Teusday nights, those are (obviously) much more open. We could even come out tonight if we wanted to.
So, there's some food for thought for the forum. Let's get this ball (or wheel) rolling...

The point appears to be somewhat moot, but if you came on our first velodrome trip (where keith and I both drove) you've completed just Track 1. If you came out the second time (which was just me driving) you've done up to Track 3.
I've said it before and I'll say it again.. if anyone wants to do Track 2 or 3 I'd be willing to bus people out in my car just to get some riding time in. I can fit 3 people plus myself (no rack though, so you're renting) and would just be looking at splitting gas money. I organized the prior two trips I took however, so it's someone else's turn to book it. :) I'm not particularly interested in repeating Track 1, but I'd considering going again just to ride the Rec time in the afternoon (and potentially stick around for the evening races).
Tovi: any idea when they do track 3/4 now? It's not on the schedule at all.

I don't think I'll make it out to the London track this weekend. I have no helmet :(
Sounds like you all had a fun snow ride.
Ya'll be insane.
The salt burns my veins.
Therefore I will refrain.
The muddy slush ain't worth the pain.
Pyze to clean your bike.. a bucket of hot water works nice.
Washes the salt and crud from your drivetrain.
Just make sure you wipe dry your drivetrain before it goes in the freezer.
The occasional lube would help too.
Last winter I only cleaned my bike 3 times.
Each time was quite the ordeal.
