I used to have a device that would allow me to "hear" ppl creepin' in the bush from upto a couple km away. Being in the beam for extended periods caused sterility as I think it was microwave-based. What the beams causes the enemy on the wrong side of the device usually gets chalked up to "That's what you get for being on the wrong side, sucker"

Tell me that doesn't have "cancer" written all over it. :)
"according to the military" Well now I feel a whole lot safer.

This thing must use radiation to work. Infrared radiation has a long wavelength on the radiation spectrum. Microwaves are even slower. I would imagine this thing is teetering on the edge of being a microwave gun, but if it only penetrates half a milimetre is probably just a sh*tload of infrared radiation. Either way screw the evil jackbooted nazi b*stards who invented this.

edit: They have had this concept in Warhammer 40K for about 20 years. The Multi-Melta Cannon. Its the most powerful weapon in the game!

You know "radiation" isn't all bad. You couldn't see without it! Visible light is "radiation". That's like when people say that "chemicals" are bad. It's like the fear of evil "bacteria".. water is a chemical, damnit. I think it said in that article that it uses milliwaves, which I thought were in the microwave range, but I could be wrong. Last I checked, microwaves weren't so good for you. :P

Back to bike talk.. does anyone know if it's safe to trim carbon mtn bike bars? Sparing the "carbon is bad mm'kay" stuff, plz. :)

Physics minor in university thankyouverymuch.. :P That was mostly a pet-peeve vent about people who treat words like "chemical" and "bacteria" as being wholly evil.

ps. have you ever actually played Warhammer? That game scares me. Whenever I go past one of those "games workshop" stores I always see a group of people standing around, with greasy bedhead and jogging pants, discussing Lelith Hesperax, Mistress of Death (go wikipedia).

Wrap bar with tape....cut 3/4's the way thru with a sharp hacksaw....rotate bar and cut thru the remaining 1/4 from the opposite side. This will prevent the carbon from de-lamming.

They are called miniatures. They are either pewter or plastic painted with acryllics. That old lady is made of kiln fired porcelain and enamel!

PS. The multi-melta is a terminator destroying machine. Physical armour save totally negated! The problem is its so short range that if you miss you'll get savaged the next turn. You're probably better off with a lascannon. Such is the darkness of the future... there is only war.

For 40K I have probably 3000 or more points of Imperial Guard, about 2000 points of Dark Angels, maybe 750 points of Eldar, and various orks.
For warhammer I have about 1000 points of Chaos knights
I also have a few Blood bowl teams
I also have Epic 40K, Necromunda and Gorka Morka (all since discontinued games workshop games)

I pretty much enjoyed painting them more than playing, but back when I played the game was REALLY slow and took about 6 hours to play. They released a few new editions and now it is way quicker. Every once in a while I will paint a few of the minis up. I almost have an entire battalion painted up like UN peacekeepers now.

ps. when I say 3000 point imperial guard army, that means like 150 miniatures and 5 tanks plus artillery.

Well if canada allowed CCW's that's what i'd be carrying. Also for those of you who watched Munich, there was that scene where they concealed a zip gun as a old school air pump (even had it attached under the toptube). Now that was awesome.

I am going to get a brooks rifle clip that matched my saddle so that I can carry around my AR-15 in style.

lymb, I am totally in to mechanical things and I like the design of guns, I just think they are a liability. That and they are not useful at all. I like my mechanical things to work well and be well used; thats part of the appeal. If I had a gun all I'd do is clean it and then eventually have a terrible accident. Maybe a high quality mechanical pencil could suffice?

Unless you are all living somewhere other than this city I can't imagine why any of you would even think about carrying or owning a gun. I'm well trained in firearms, and I know what they can do to a body, you wouldn't catch me with one at home. Bad thing waiting to happen a gun is. I'll wager not one of you has had even the slightest reason to need one. When they say it's not a toy, they mean it. A young man's bravado is quickly extinguished when you ventilate his skull. (That's the last place you're supposed to aim)

I'm primarily pro gun at the very least to educate people on what a firearm is and how to use one safely. Say shooting a range or hunting (if you so desired). At the very least knowledge and use of a firearm will prevent stupid knee jerk reactions "think of the children" type situations. Example is the gun registry for which our tax dollars pay and does nothing.

TRaffic Jammer
01-25-07, 12:07 PM
The registry was supposed to keep track of weapons the country over (a colossal and short sighted gaff of epic proportions.) The ones we need to worry about aren't registered. In concept the registry is a good idea, and should include the ballistics data of every weapon in the DB. Anyone that wants a weapon should under go some serious evaluation, and give justification for the need to possess, as well as retesting, and random checks for storage violations. Just cuz ...isn't an answer. Sport shooters should store the weapon at facilities and take the firing pin home. No good can ever come of arming your population, unless of course you are expecting an invasion. All this from someone that loves shooting, but I know what I speak of.

Handguns are designed to wound or kill people. They have no other use. Even at the shooting range you shoot at man shaped targets with them. I don't care if you shoot skeet with a shotgun or go hunting for deer with a rifle, but there is no reason why anyone should have a handgun. They are a small, concealable and deadly tool, perfect for crime and intimidation. I especially don't see why anyone would ever need to carry a concealed weapon. It seems like its just asking for trouble. If you want to carry a gun I would rather you had a big rifle strapped to your back because at least then I know you are crazy enough to go around with a gun on you.

If you want to carry a gun I would rather you had a big rifle strapped to your back because at least then I know you are crazy enough to go around with a gun on you.

well put. carrying a handgun for any reason whatsoever is akin to carrying around a poison that is designed to kill humans. if you believe in this sort of "right" you believe in murder. it's not like we're in the arctic carrying a .22 so you can defend yourself against a polar bear attack...come on.

EDIT: back to bikes: does anyone know where i can buy SOMA stuff in town? i'd like to get a pair of their doube toe clips but my LBS can't order them. keith?

There is a shop on Roncesvalles called West Side Cycle and he sells the SOMA track frame, maybe he has other stuff too? He is pretty expensive though, I think that the SOMA Rush frame/fork is 750$ in his shop. Also, he is a bit weird, just a warning.

If you are going to defend against a polar bear with a .22, can I have your bikes?

I have a gun, I use it bird hunting, ducks, pheasant, the yummy stuff (cross-bow for deer). Hand guns and autmatic weapons are for people hunting. And the gun regristration program? Don't get me started on that. Biggest waste of money ever.

There is only one distributor of Soma stuff in Canada....ACS distributing. They didn't have the double's in last years cat. I havn't got the 2007 one yet. I would imagine yer LBS is getting their stuff from them. They don't carry the full Soma line so they may not be able to order certain items. The Rush frameset shouldn't be more than $650.....even that is kinda high.
Don't go polar bear hunting with a .22....you will have big probs. Maybe a .303 or 30-06.

I cut an inch or so off either side of my mtb bars no trouble at all...

Fine hacksaw and I finished it off with a dremel (although now that I'm older and wiser I'd use a dust mask when working on cf)

Looks like they're calling for snow for CM!

Shyte, it's so c-c-cold out. I foolishly went to class on my bike only wearing my cycling cap and helmet. I think I might lose the top half of each ear. Dress warm you scallywags!
