Keith (or anyone), do you have a cost of a set of long-pull single pivot brakes? Cheap is fine, since they're going on a bike to ride to the grocery store with.

Sorry...yer vernacular is a little cloudy. You need long reach(?) road style brakes? I def have a rear long reach cheap. Front may be trickier.....perhaps a Mafac Racer centerpull?

How do they do inner, band connecting the axles?
You need to remove one side rail to install the new belt...not a big deal.

Something like this: Tektro R556 Long Reach (http://www.wallbike.com/oddsnends/tektrobrakes.html)

Edit: But now that I think about it, I think I only need rear. Score!

To deal with the terminology question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycle_brake_systems#Types_of_bicycle_brakes

I seem to have what Wikipedia says are Single pivot side-pull calliper brakes. Can I use Dual-pivot side pulls?

Yes. Assuming the single pivots use recessed allen bolts and they are of the correct reach.

I tried to find this information on Sheldon's, but what is a recessed allen bolt? How would i know whether I have them or not?

So my brakes are not recessed, and I don't want to go through the issues of the making them so. So I guess I need the original single-pivot kind.

Bike Jousting...a lost sport, purely for the blood sport entertainment value of the spectators. I was thinking we'd have a saftey meeting while watching the carnage, and the beaten, bloodied warrior who emerges victorious gets the tickets. It does seem a little over the top for a 5$ ticket, but hey, you get your fun where you can, you know? I think Keith would like the jousting as well. I KNOW the crackheads would find it endlessly amusing.

Knowing full well it'll be first come first serve at Cavern. ...accept for 2wheelsgood, he bought me off with a borrow of his Trials DVD.

We like it that way too. At least we don't have to put up with you when its cold out :p

Today I was harassed again on that same damn stretch of shaw street by a guy I had been keeping up with from Front + Spadina (at least a couple kilometers). I am ahead of him at the intersection and start to cross into the section of shaw with a median and he immediately starts honking, so I move more in to the middle of the lane. After that he keeps honking and tries passing me in every empty parking space. Then he rolls down his window and gives me the usual cager rant. I was about to start yelling at him, but I decided to just keep my mouth shut. I did go so far as to say that I am legally entitled to take the lane when it is unsafe to pass me due to a narrow road and parked cars. He didn't contradict me on this and he drove away after that. I think I did call him an a**hole, but the dude was. I tried to be more zen than usual and even threw in a 'Try to have a nice day!'

He was in a real crappy late model black corolla sedan that made funny noises. Jerks!

I got off my ass and commuted to work on my bike today. I knew I'd be kicking myself if I didn't and it was worth getting up early.

Lots of parts on my "must have" list now... I'm gonna have my fixed project ready soon hopefully! :D

sr20det, Merry Sales in ... San Fran carries individual Sugino 75 crank arms (drive/non-drive sides). I think QBP only stocks generic Sugino ones. Their Canadian counterparts are the guys who run KHS Canada (ACS Distributing or something ... maybe I've just got bmx freewheels stuck in my head). Availability will probably be next to nothing from the Canadian guys, but it might be worth a phone call.

Curbside guys: good to have you by the shop today. I like to head around and visit places too. It's nice to see how other stores are doing things and toss ideas around.

Speaking of ideas, I was talking to Geoff of Bike Pirates today about displaying a ghost bike in our window with some information on what it means/what took place. It's going to be over at Eastern/Leslie in a few weeks where that cyclist was killed last year. If anyone's interested in raising some awareness, maybe a few shops around town could do this.

Cool, I've never ridden a funny bike and only seen a couple in Toronto. There is a courier with a Concorde (I think) funny bike, it looks neat.
Yeah it is a Concorde geared bike with a sloping top tube. I've never talked to the guy but I see him on the road almost daily. He has it set up with a riser stem and standard road drops. It's kind of a white/grey/black pattered colour. It looks pretty cool. There is another guy Sean who rides a one of those KHS pursuit frames as his work bike. He also has a Gardin pursuit frame that he broke and was using as his work bike until the end of the summer. Joe at Urbane has one of the KHS's as well. Other than that there aren't too many around here that I've seen on the road.

I want to build my own funny bike. An uber long seatpost and HUGE riser bars for my old small mountain bike would probably do the trick. The finishing touches would be some handlebar streamers and a horn that plays La Cuckaracha. Oh and one of these: http://exophrenia.typepad.com/exophrenia/images/update1.jpg mounted to the handlebars.

****! I step away from the comptuer and somebody steals 20k WTF.

Rule is you're not allowed to double post yourself... ! Sirrobin = archenemy list

I'm willing to share. You can have 10000 of it.

Well, my quest of ruining 20000 is done. Off to bed!

Since it all started with post #1, maybe post #20001 should be the winner. I'll have the bottle of wine sent to your house Pyze-Guy

Man that sounds like it would kill bike sales to new riders...

In all seriousness, if it was just about making money I wouldn't be in the ****ing business - there are far easier ways to make more. You of all people can attest to how dangerous it can be just commuting on a bike in this city. If we have the platform to raise some awareness, why not do it?
