I checked out this auction, and noticed that the shipping cost to Toronto was $53. I love when you can buy the hat for $1 but end up paying $55 to get it. Classic!

Well yeah... if you pay for the express shipping 1-2 business days! UPS standard on this one appears to be $10.76. UPS from the states is risky anyway though you can get hit with some nasty "brokerage fees". You don't get hit every time but when you do, speaking from personal experience, it sucks.

Dan.... is the Wed off to offer some relief mid week, or would the Monday be better with three days resting? Knowing full well you will ride at least once in those three days.... moot point regardless?

Yeah that's the idea. Well the chiropractor said that doing one or two days in a row of work followed by a recovery day or two would actually help my knee get stronger as opposed to working five days straight which is much harder on the ol' body. I don't think I could go three whole days without hammering it :) Riding during my recovery days isn't a problem according to him, as it would be unlikely that I would ride anywhere near as much as I do during a work day, although going on a 80km ride on a wednesday off would maybe negate the recovery effect a bit :D The idea is that during my recovery days I am comparitively taking it easy. His advice (and orthotics) have worked wonders because my knee is PERFECT now finally!!

i know what you did last monday! slacker. :D not that i didn't take today off to get tattooed or anything.

how was the comedy show? i was busy digesting a 16 oz. cheesburger, fries and gravy. i could barely move, let alone laugh!

I concede nothing. Nothing!! Actually Dave didn't say anything to me when I went in yesterday so I didn't say anything. It appears all is well. The comedy show overally was pretty good but my friend James' standup was amazing, the best standup I've seen him do yet. Oh and in reference to your "meal" last night. Well, you disgust me. That is all

Dangerous Dans perhaps? I cant/wont/havnt tried it but their "artery clogger" burger special sounds appetizing....2 12oz burger patties, 4 slices of cheese, 4 slices of bacon and a fried egg. JACKPOT!

Dan, what was wrong with your knee?

Just a good ol' fashioned case of wobbly-patella-bad-kneepcap-tracking-itus. There is a proper medical name that I always screw up/invert. It's something along the lines of femoral patella-something-or-other. In my case it was actually caused by my bad feet. Exercise and stretching helped a lot but orthotics to suppport my collapsing arches essentially cured it.

Oh yeah Operator, so you don't like huge gaudy brand names on bikes, but you do like big gaudy brand logos? ;)

I really hate words, but damn you have to admit that bike looks awesome with the design on it. I'm not a huge connoiseur of the arts but I do like stuff that's aesthetically pleasing / pure ownage.

Keith do you normally stock white deep v's (rims? or complete wheels?).

There was a bit of discussion a couple of weeks ago about ordering from Nashbar with that free shipping code, has anyone received their stuff? I just got mine and there is an invoice with a shipping and handling fee. When I ordered online there was no mention of it, this must mean that the free shipping didn't apply to Canada. The stuff is still cheap but what a bummer, us Canucks always get the screwjob!

edit: Just got the phone and yeah, no free shipping to Canada. It would have been nice if that had been mentioned on the website and I informed the woman of this. If I hadn't already unwrapped the 105 brakes and determined that they kickasss, I would return them, oh well. It is still much cheaper but not as great a deal as I had initially hoped for.

Umm.... guys... fellow Torontonians... I got a question for you that's not related to fixies, but I hope you forgive me. Does anyone know where I could rent a tandem bike in Toronto? My boyfriend's birthday is coming up and I had an idea of a tandem ride as part of the plan, but I don't know if it's doable. The only place that rents tandems in Toronto seems to be the Island Rentals, and they are not going to be open for a couple more months anyway. There is also a place in the East end that rents "historical" bikes to the media and they have a 30's tandem, but I doubt they'd let me have it just for a few hours for a friviolous birthday spin.

So, does anyone know of any place I overlooked in my search? Or maybe you even know an individual who owns a tandem and would be willing to make a few bucks by renting it to a very careful cyclist that is myself? *sigh* Probably not, but at least I tried. :)

We will let you off this one time, but we normally don't tolerate off topic conversation. Yes, we have been speaking about fixed gears for almost 700 pages. We are, simply put, the real deal.

I don't know if these people rent but they sell them and may know where to rent one:

I seem to remember seeing a booth at the bike show for a place that rented out tandems but I can't remember for sure.

If that old tandem is from Cogs it is fixed...perhaps not the best choice. Warren Cycle Works on Queen East has an old CCM cruiser bike tandem in the window...it is certainly not new so he might be willing to rent it out. Be forewarned though...the guy in there is a bit surly and can be hard to deal with. You may want to try Sandy's Cycle up on Laird...they are tandem specialists and might have something for you to rent. Maybe try a Craigslist ad...someone out there prolly has one they would be willing to rent.

If that old tandem is from Cogs it is fixed...perhaps not the best choice. Yep, that's the one. So I was not so off-topic after all! :) You're right, however: I'd ride fixies and tandems separately, but they are a combination to be considered with caution.

Be forewarned though...the guy in there is a bit surly and can be hard to deal with. Cool; I know that place! I worked in a cycling camp that ran nearby last summer and we took kids for a sort of a field trip there on a rainy day once. Seemed like friendly folks, actually.

mmmm Dangerous Dan's

Greasy breakfast and burgers are lovely. Just finsihed of some potato rosti myself. Leftover from yesterdays class. But now I want eggs and bacon as well.

Always partial to the Benidict burger at Lakeview Lunch myself. Burger with back bacon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce. So nasty yet soooo good. Esp. with a shake. Ah the good old days when worrying about my health was drinking 12 light beers to cut out calories.

lovely arguement ensued with payroll at the TDSB this afternoon. Went along the lines of

TDSB: We overpayed you $4500 in November and want it back
Me: I paid it
TDSb: No you didn't
Me:Yes I did etc and so on....

Went on for a while until the moron finally checked his records and oh yes I had paid. Assmunch. I still want bacon too.

Are you gonna stick around and watch me puke it up as well? I could cram it in...whether or not it stays there is open for debate.

Dangerous Dan's uses 100% Canola Oil.

phew. You'd think with the angle they're going for they'd advertise 100% lard, extra on the side at your request.

I want DD's for supper now.

you get your picture taken if you finish a quad-c. or do you get photographed for just ordering it???
funny, i had a exact same craving for a greasy breakfast this morning with a buddy. peter street deli has 2 eggs, choice of cow or pig, toast, coffee for 3.75 or something. it was 2.99 for the longest time but they realized they weren't making any money. hahaha. my buddies and i call him the breakfast nazi because sometimes he'll choose just not to make it for you. breakfast ends at 11am and we were there at 1040 and it was basically no breakfast for us.

I own a deep fryer, a dangerous tool to have may I tell you and have deep fried well everything. The mars bar is delicious, I like it in a nice tempura batter for lightness. If the bar is frozen you get this wonderful hot crust with a gooey exterior and warm to frozen center. I personally prefer to use toberlone piece's because the nougat and nuts really do it well. Either way deep-fried chocolate gets huge thumbs up from me.

Fantastic desert, tempura berries with a chocolate balsamic vinegar sauce served with a side of tempura chocolate bars.

Deep frying a whopper is not recommended, but deep frying a frozen pizza was an epiphany.

I still want Moe's military grade deep fryer, that would be awesome.

You can pretty much deep fry anything. Pickles are pretty good, butter not so much. Somenights I would get bored at work and we would batter and deep fry anything we could think of. Marshmallows aren't bad, and deep fried pogos are pretty cool as well. Ice cream good, sausages even better.

I worked with I guy I din't like too much once and served him a breaded veal sandwich. Actually a breaded kitchen rag deep fried sandwich . Was funny watching him struggle to bite through the burning hot 'veal'. More so when he pulled hard and the sauce covered rag fell out and burned his lips and chin.

What happens when people use my knives to open a can!!!

I shudder to think having never been in there.
Though, .... the day after the court decision legalizing female toplessness, the "girls" (i can't go by way of the pun) were out there flashing folks as they drove by. I was treated to a 12 nipple salute. I still have never been in the place.....nor can I see myself doing so.
