200+ watts of bi-amped goodness plus 200 watt sub....you could hear it in the other end of the building.

My bass amp has a bi-amp setup with 300W to the lows and 150W to the highs. Good times. :)

Hummer H2 fuel capacity: 32 gallons (32 US gallons = 121.133178 litres)
Lowest price of diesel in Toronto: 92.9 cents per litre
Cost to fill up: $112.53
Laughing at the ****** driving it: priceless.

That's right, I'm trying REALLY hard not to get any work done today.

I meant rumble strips in the city. Rumble strips on the highway, with a bike lane to the right sounds like a dream- does such a thing even exist?

There were times when I was in California where I had to ride on the highways. They weren't bike lanes so much, but they were plenty wide, clean and separated by a rumble strip. I thought it was pretty safe, regardless of the crazy speeds people were passing at.

Manitoba is another story. Take the same highway, put loose dirt to your right, and allow yourself 3 inches from the painted line to ride. Oh, don't forget the constant pot hole right down the line, as if the paint had destroyed the pavement. Beautiful.

yep.. I still see a decent of cheap shows (not that $18.50 is too bad, but I've gone to a bunch of local stuff lately), but touring ain't cheap for an indie band so I'm willing to suck it up for a good show. Ditto for buying merch at shows. 100% funds straight to the band which is always nice on the road. :)

I always hear about the show Fugazi did in Guelph @ the trash, way back a fan sent Ian a letter to come play & they did for like 5 bux a ticket or something like that. Crazy stuff. Minor Threat best H/C ever.

I also must say I like bikes. That is all.

yup, that's a limited edition cinelli cross bike. they used to have them in the window at la bicicletta when they were still on bloor street. cinelli released a mountain bike and a city bike in that same line. pretty slick but not easy to find or cheap.

Long time lurker (to the Toronto fixed thread), first time poster - unfortunately, it's a bit off (fixed) topic.

I was looking into doing a cycling trip from Vancouver->Whistler so I tried to find info on the "Sea to Sky Highway".. they've been doing improvements for the last little while in preparation for the Olympics. On their FAQ (http://www.seatoskyimprovements.ca/faqs.htm), I found the following info:

6. Will I be able to cycle on the Sea-to-Sky Highway? What about cycling during construction?

When complete, improved cycling access along the corridor will be provided by 1.5 metre shoulders protected by shoulder rumble strips through those sections of the corridor where improvements are being carried out.

So - it sounds like such a thing does exist, and in a place I dream of riding..

I'm so annoyed at his AIDS answer that I just wrote to the WHO to ask them if it's true. The cycling thing I think is wrong, and his logic is wrong, but the basic idea (that roads really aren't safe for bicycles) is right. I don't think saying "well no bike lanes, we need to do major construction to build new bike roads" is logical, but whatever. But saying that 70+% of people with Aids are gay or drug users is just wrong (I hope!!)

Mode of transmission varies enormously with location. Africa is primarily hetero sexual contact with large increases in intravenous drug use transmission in Easter Europe and Asia. A good recent summart is http://tinyurl.com/2gshg9. I can get the full article for you if you're interested.

The big issues is that we don't have enough cyclists on the road. Bike safety increases with the number of cyclists. Bike lanes encourage cyclists to ride on the appropriate side of the road and help driver safety by making it easier to judge passing distances. We just don't have enough cyclists in the lanes to prevent them from being used as parking or alternate driving routes.

As an aside, MEC has rain gear on sale (check they're site). I'm also debating a new pair of shoes, Dominators or Genius'. Apart from the weight, is there that much difference for stiffness. I do some long distance stuff, but mtb shoes seem more practical in general.

Yeah, I definitely would not ride it before that construction is done unless you enjoy getting buzzed by trucks while huffing your way up a hill on a twisty narrow highway with little to no shoulder, and a rock wall on one side with a drop-off on the other. :P

ps. Robin: I'm sure I've stood in the exact spot that the first picture was taken, is that on the way to the Columbia Ice Fields when the road starts climbing like crazy? I was there when I was 9 years old, so my vivid memory of it says a lot about that view. I wonder if my Dad has any pictures around similar to the bottom one. We could compare how much the glacier has shrunk. ;)

I think someone should call up our friend and the members of the media and suggesting everyone go for a little bike ride, and I'll drive the car that t-bones him. "oh, you're right, it's not safe..."
Oh I can make the media bit happen if everyone's down for the rest

The thing that burns me the most about this is that it's now just basically given license to all of those a$$hats that have cyclists in their sites to continue and step it up. After all, a city representative just said they're right! What a dangerous example to set. And what with the worlds coming next year, I think it's time to step up the pressure. The timing's perfect. Can you imagine if we could by next summer organize a "million bike roll" through the streets of Toronto. That oughtta send a message. And I think making this turning point a positive thing by using overwhelming presence and civil disobedience is the way to go rather than have to watch another cyclist be killed to affect change.

Of course we'll need to stretch first, and I do propose we work out the kinks on a ride to Wingporium. (http://www.wingporium.com/menu_back.html)

After my failed attempts to get shoes at the show last weekend I went by MEC and picked up the Dominators. It may be that may old shoes had more or less disintegrated, but I'm crazy stoked about these shoes. So comfortable, great fit, my connection to the bike now is almost symbiotic and I've been able to just throw on an extra pair of socks in sub-zero temps as long as the wind isn't too crazy.

Oh and just as I was leaving my friend who works there called me over and gave an uber sweet discount :D

Here's a question for those who work at bike stores. My roommate has a Trek Fuel 90 with the Hayes Hydrolic disc brakes. He wants to get a new set of wheels that he wants to run 'road' tires on. Obviously this won't be 700c tires, but something as thin as possible.

Anyone have an approximate price for: Two new wheels, the brake discs and a new cassette? He doesn't need amazing wheels, since he'll be doing city riding with these and mountain biking with the others.

speaking of city politicians, does anyone here remember offhand just which councilor it was that suggested licensing of ALL bicycles in Toronto (2006)? I can't seem to dig it up, slow brain saturday for the lose

what did you have in mind? do you think it would be realistic to have a convergence set to start, say 4:00pm this monday? not tonnes of time to spread the word, but the more immediate the response, the better...

The posting is gone... guess someone grabbed it. What was it?

There's a nice Bianchi on there with no price listed other than "best offer". I emailed the guy hoping he just thought it was junk from his garage but apparently he's not quite so naive. :(

Sneak the t.v. remote off the table......the next time he is "driving to the hoop" hit the power button on the remote.
