I just started Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson and yeah, it is great so far. I haven't been this into a book since I read Ender's Game when I was 16, god I loved that book!

Snow Crash is probably one of the most entertaining books I've ever read. Total page-turner.. I <3 Neal Stephenson. Ender's Game also was amazing, obviously. I don't <3 Orson Scott Card though... Mr. Intelligent Design. Yikes.

I think i'm possibly the only one who didn't like Enders game. A book filled with super children doesn't really strike me as super c00L pwnage material.
That or I was forced to read it. The hobbit - same story.

Yeah, the forcing to read bit probably didn't help.
Who'd like to bust out the mtn bikes for a fun early season ride this weekend?

I'd be up for it if I can keep up on my heavy ass SS commuter that I have never ridden on a trail before. I've done it on the cross bike before though...

I agree with everyone about how great Snow Crash and Diamond Age are, but my favourite of Stephenson's is Cryptonomicon (all about WW2/modern day cryptography). I like all three of these books enough that I'll re-read them every once in a while.
On the flip side, I just can't seem to finish his "Baroque Cycle" series - whereas Quicksilver started out strong, the last book (System of the World) just seems to keep dragging on and on. At this point, I couldn't care less about the characters and just want to get it over with and back on the bookshelf..

Yeah, I actually like Cryptonomicon more than the Diamond Age as well. The Diamond Age was the 2nd book (after a friend recommended Snow Crash) that I read by him actually, and I didn't really enjoy it the first time through. I re-read it last year though after having read pretty much everything else he's written and enjoyed it much more. I actually felt the same way about the Baroque Cycle, it was a downward spiral of interest for me, right to the end. Sorry I can give you any words of encouragement.. I just figured I'd already read a couple thousand pages, I might as well stick with it to the end. :P

I'm thinking it will be very very gross and muddy, so I'd really rather take my SS as my CX is set up for road right now. I'll think about it.

I am pretty old so at that time, Ender's Game didn't even have a sequel, I just picked it up because I thought the cover looked cool ;) Nice surprise that it was a fantastic book and now, 20 years later, everyone has read it. Weird.

Good luck. Business is business. Even if you're freaking evil.
Diamond's are all marketing. They'll come up with someone. "Is your love artificial? Then neither should your diamond"

haha that totally reminded me of a made up song I got stuck in my head
baby my emotional satisfaction
ain't nothin but chemical reaction
so you'll have to excuse my attraction
cuz all i really want to get is some action
hahaha I sometimes sing this out loud on the bike and improvise various verses.

hehehe.. I just ran some errands around Yonge & Bloor after work and rode home along Bloor. At Ossington this car rolls up next to me and the guy rolls down the passenger window (manually, mind you.. no electric window) and says something to me. He has a smile on his face, so I figure he's not raging so I say "excuse me?" and he says "man! you're making great time!"
gold.

What a crazy weather day. When I went to bed last night it was 2. When I woke up it was -15. Made breakfast, did some work, got packed and hit the road... it was -18. Like an idiot, forgot I had a meeting a block from my house... rode all the way back home. Finished the meet... rode back to work. Worked all day, rode home... -9. And by Thursday, 18. What the sh17? On the plus side, got to ride a bunch in the sun. On my freshly cleaned drive train. That ruled.
Oh, right... not a blog. Sry.
Anyone going out tomorrow night?

all this moaning about diamonds can only mean that this forum is a sausage-fest. mind you, i don't see the attraction of them either but it do live by the mantra that "when mommy's happy, everyone's happy". i did manage to inherit a diamond to use as an engagement ring so i'd be griping too if i was forced to rake over five bike's worth of cash for a shiny thing.

For sure. But I go to school 5 days a week and work the other two. That makes for many rideless days
Mind you, summer does rockzors in the bike biz!

2 race divisions, track and everything else
I'm not going to race phhht
I think I'll definitely be riding that Poker Ride, 10$ for a guy that got his bones on the outside = good time = good value
