Also, I can't remember the colour of the bike. Black maybe? The guy was wearing one of those backpacks with the roll down top. Oh, and I have a black/dark grey/light grey timbuk2 bag, so if you were on my ass maybe you'd remember that. :)

well i have a black bike but that wasn't me. i was at the bike show yesterday afternoon and i didn't follow anybody with a timbuk2 on the way there. did we establish a time for meeting tomorrow?

yeah, you have an urbanite, right? I would have remembered that. :)

11:30am tomorrow at Moonbean.

I saw a cute girl riding a nice super clean fixie with a chopped straight bar and stubby bar ends today. Just thought that was worth mentioning.

03-04-06, 02:47 PM
My girlfriend wants me to build her a fixie now. This has been my plan for some time, but I didn't want to bring it up myself because it makes me feel like kind of a perv in some strange way. I got a wierd kick out of her riding my bike down the street for some reason. That and I hate adjusting the brakes and gears on her hybrid. Not that I'd get her going brakeless anyways... I'll stop rambling now.

Anyways, now I'm in the market for a 55-56cm road frame or bike to fix up for her. She wants it in pink too, so I may have to do a repaint unless I'm lucky.

I'll be at moon bean at 11:40 tommorrow just to be fashionable.

My cramerotti frame tells me it wants a flip/flop build. Dude no need to feel like a perv, you're sharing your passion with your love. I'd totally chub if i could get the wife riding. :p Tomorrow!!!

Now I just need to get her rock climbing, smoking pot and playing warhammer 40,000 (all of which she has expressed interest in funnily enough).

If life is a 2 way street though that means I'll have to start doing yoga, spinning classes and learn to study like a monster. I suppose I could be worse off

edit: my bike is going to be pimped

i have a 58cm (or so) vintage raliegh frame sitting in my basement if you want it. it's white, so not your colour, but what the hell.

i'll try to be there at 11:30. how will i know who's who? what does everyone look like?

The problem about getting a frame for her is she is pretty tall and has an 89cm inseam, but as a girl she has a shorter torso, meaning that although her legs could fit a 56-57, I should probably go smaller to accomadate her arms. Thanks for the offer anyways though! I will probably be wearing army pants tomorrow, along with my yellow black and silver bike jacket with a colourful UTW messenger bag.

Hey Shiznaz, Keith had a really nice, really pink Miele about that size (maybe a 54 or 55) at Cavern Cycles a while ago, don't know if he sold it or not.

i think a ride in this sunshine will clearout the cobwebs a little. never a better hangover cure than a chilly bike ride. it's 10:43 in parkdale, i'm heading down to MB soon. i'll look for the helmets. do they make a descent espresso?

Hey, has anyone ever checked out High Park Cycle? I walked in the other day and was blown away by the incredible stuff this guy has. I have never seen so much Italian steel, mostly older, like '80s stuff and all road. Cioccs, Bianchis, Pinis, Colnagos....he has everything! Some sweet track frames too, all of them in my size too, dammit :) It would be a great place for some of you guys who are looking for decent conversions. Ciao!

i know the place. i used to buy parts from that guy but after a while i tired of his surliness. i've bought a fixed wheel from him that popped 3 spokes in the first few weeks of use; not the most compitent wheel builder i've ever met. so, you have to catch him on a good day or else you're going to get jerked around. that said, i he does have some nice vintage stuff, and if you're just looking for a frame or some parts it's alright.

hahahah.. I should have known that if I posted something like that I'd wind up with foot in mouth disease. :)

I didn't get a good look, so I don't know how cute you are either, hehehe -- it made it for a better story in a thread that I assumed was a total sausage-fest. :) It was early in the afternoon on Saturday, on College near Spadina. I don't remember much except it was a black fixie with narrow bars and stubby barends.. front brake (I could see the cable at least, not the lever).. black toque. That's about it. If it was you I seriously dig your bike. Super clean. Makes me consider running some chopped flat bars as well.

sidenote: good seeing you guys today. I'm looking forward to the Summer so we can do more rides/gettogethers. Sweep242 and I were talking today about doing some beer-rides and stuff like that. I was actually trying to get some people together for that sort of thing last Summer, but I didn't know any of you guys at that point. I really like the idea of just riding to a park with a couple bottles in my bag or pockets and just chillin' out and farkin' around on bikes. Goofin' around and having drunken track stand competitions.. Aww.. feel the love! ;)

If there was a helmet over the toque, that was definitely me. And also if it's possible that you mistook my really teeny tiny chop n' flops for a flat bar with stubby bar ends, which it does look like if my hands are on the horn parts. If not, well, I guess I have foot-in-mouth. I feel like I'm involved in a Craiglist "missed connections" ad. But my bike is indeed black and clean, regardless. Pretty little thing.

aww shiat. i overslept.
its f-ing 5:30pm right now. I don't think i'll make it for the stinking bike show.
anyways, on the topic of high park cycles, I personally haven't been there yet but I heard a LOT of crazy talk about it.
the one thing that everyone agrees about is that the owner is a grumpy ol' bastard and the shiz that he has in the back is INSANE. we're talking vintage NIB grouppos and all this other goodness, but you have to bargain like hell if you want to remove anything from the shop.
also I go check out Mike Barry's shop.

sigh, working and going to sleep during the day and being a cyber athelete at night doesn't do your sleep patterns any good.
anyways....
i'm going back to sleep.

32flavours: actually, I seem to remember it was a toque with NO helmet. But I could be remembering wrong. Unless it was also a black helmet.. ?

Operator: I totally forgot to give you that chainring wrenchy thing from Keith. I had it in my bag.

Black helmet, yes. Again, with the missed connections vibe. I'm not sure why I'm so curious about this. I guess I have a little stalker in me.

On the topic of stalking, does anyone know who the guy on campus is with the black e-taped fuji track? I keep bumping into him. Not that I ever say anything, because that would make me a stalker. Cough.

hahaha.. yeah, I'm not sure who's the stalker/stalkee here exactly. :D If I see you around on my bike I'll say hi though! And you're not made a stalker by saying hi to someone else on the street.. I made the leap by chatting with a messenger I regularly see on my commute, and now I often have someone to shoot the breeze with on my way to work in the mornings.

The guy on campus with the black e-taped fuji would be Shiznaz, but you're probably talking the $400 fuji track. andIf you go to UT too are you the girl who rides the fuji track similarily wrapped.
Blah that's what I forget to get fromyou sonmabmulatng. Because theres a girl that rides a fuji track i've seen at SS in the summer. she was hot too tohigh

I do ride a fuji track se (the tiny 43 cm version) but with some parts swapped. And the frame is powdercoated black, so no e-tape. Mind you, this is only in the last few weeks. Before that, and still sometimes now, I could be seen tooling around on a similarly tiny white Surly 1x1.

I avoid any conversation with other cyclists that I encounter around Toronto. Even when I side-swiped a messenger last year and he got in my face asking what my ****ing problem was, I just looked right past him (zen-like toward the horizon) and whistled something pleasant. Social interaction is grossly overrated.

Side project:

I've got a lingering interest in this:

I haven't seen anyone selling On-One bikes in Toronto and I'm likely going to get charged out the ass due to the esoteric nature of my desires, but if anyone's got a line on who carries On-One stuff (I'm specifically looking for the 29er frameset) shout me a holla, etc.

Merci,

PS. Cue sr20det piping in and saying something like they carry them at Urbane, followed by me smacking my head and wandering by to check them out.
PPS. No, I didn't hit a messenger.
