Campy, rebuildable shifters are a huge advantage. Also its just sexier.

Op I saw a tallbike when I was riding up and down huron st. today that someone's at the chain?

Hmm, no we have no tallbikes here. I saw that one too though while walking by.

Yeah, it's always locked up at McLennan, on the Huron St side. The bike that Keith mentioned a page or two back that a UofT prof rides is actually locked up regularly in front of my building at 215 Huron. Haven't seen it in a while though.. guess he's waiting for the weather to improve.

ps. great poster: http://spacing.ca/wire/?p=1774

pfft.. bike lanes. The road is our bike lane.

Poster reminds me of one of those pop up posts used to protect strategic targets. Stops like a 10ton trailer without moving. Owned.

I saw that one too a few months ago.. I was about to take a photo but Martino (http://bikelanediary.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html) beat me to it.
Pic of that bike (http://bp1.blogger.com/_-M-Edwn-coI/RezBybbeLXI/AAAAAAAAASM/BeY3jVqOik0/s1600-h/PICT5577b.jpg) was posted on "Bike Lane Diary" last month.

Its just the drivetrain that must be compatible. shifters, r der and cassette. Campy cranks with an otherwise Shimano set-up will work....it is blasphemy...but it will work.
On another note Mindy will not be able to make it out on Sunday. Wes...any friends etc. that might want to help out the crew by being designated driver? It is a couple hours wait at the finish for us to show up but we could offer some kind of incentive.

So does the Paris-Ancaster run go right over the escarpment or just up to it?

If I had more cash to blow on such things I'd consider it, but not being much of a racer I could do the same ride for free (well, free+gas) on my own schedule.

In the past I have known of enterprising machinists who have made a solution to this problem. If you are enterprising find an old canti brake brace, drill and tap holes in the appropriate location and thread in some canti studs. Mavic makes em but they are pretty pricey.

Nuts to that, going to grab a beater road frame :)

Lots of folks just do it as a fun ride. At 1372 participants and counting they cant all be hardcore. At least thats what I am hoping. Also the route travels over a fair bit of private land, so riding the same route any other time is not possible.
Worth a shot. Anyone here have Sunday free...a drivers license and willing to come and help out some fellow Canadians who are down on their luck? Your food, drink and other possible requirements will be taken care of.

You feel that way, yes, but the issue is getting more people who aren't currently riding out there. Bike lanes will help that. Plus it's just a funny poster. :)

They have those crazy pop up barricades at the American embassy in Ottawa.

A bunch of us are doing the Paris-Ancaster race. Without a long convoluted explanation I am trying to get someone to help us with getting from the Sign-in/finish to the actual start point. The organizers provide trucks and buses to ferry everyone back and forth but it takes a couple of hours waiting in line for this. Trying to avoid this big hassle. If you want a more thorough explanation etc give me a call at the shop. Cheers.

Somehow you'd end up in a fender bender / smackdown with a cabbie 100km from the city, in an otherwise empty parking lot. :)

I saw this on Canadian Cyclists Classifieds in the frame section. Too small for me, but interesting to this group: It might have been posted before...

FS: Italian Lugged Steel Track Frame
I have this beautiful lugged steel track frame/fork for sale: DeBernardi 53cm Thron 2006 model - red - steel lugged Italian Columbus Thron tubing - 53cm c-c (bb to tt) - 55cm c-c (top tube length) - seatpost 27.2mm - italian BB 70mm - head tube 1" threaded - matching red fork -120mm rear track end spacing - comes with a Shimano UN53 sealed bottom bracket and Campy Chorus threaded headset Frame/Fork Details: This frame is one of very few production-run lugged steel frame sets available today at an affordable price compared to custom frame builders (ie. Vanilla Cycles, Don Walker, Winterborne, Johnny Cycles, Moyer Cycles, etc...) The frame/fork has been ridden for a few months. It’s in excellent shape. There are no dings, dents, etc. on the frame. However, there are a few cosmetic scratches and chips, which do not compromise the frame, from daily use (ie, locking it up to bike posts). It's a perfect frame for a quick and nimble singlespeed, a durable-reliable street fixie, or a velodrome-ready speed demon :) It rides like a dream... Smooth and agile... http://flickr.com/photos/91449325@N00/sets/72157594383109408/ $500 cdn.
Price: $500

Really? At which location? My friend got pissed at me when I told her about it and she went in and they didn't know what she was talking about. Maybe she went to the wrong store or something, weird. I'll have to investigate this myself, I want free ice cream!

I just saw these on another forum I visit. The guy was hit by a car doing 40 mph but is fine apart from some bruises and 4 stitches. He was thrown up onto the windshield and the damage to the helmet was from the windshield, the windshield bar (I guess that is the metal strut around the windshield) and being thrown 40 feet once the driver realized what had happened and they put on the brakes. He lost consciousness and was revived by paramedics. Obviously, he is only alive because he was wearing a helmet. I guess I should start wearing one, this looks pretty bad.
