Reminds me of those bra-sunglasses
haha. A little more functional than those though... its basically the same as those lock holster pouches you see messengers and the like with, ie: http://www.pacdesigns.com/hip_pouch.htm, but cheaper and funkier. It fits my mini U perfectly!

got a reply from the poster. they quoted a "typical" orthotic budget at $500. my wrists are killing me..maybe i can score another pair of dominators from a mouse rest! http://www.doctus.ca/ for more info.
that sounds about right. my orthotics were close to that about 4 years ago. of course, they were covered by my insurance plan. i'm up for a new pair soon. maybe my insurance company can buy me a new pair of sidis?

I wear my helmet because my mom asked me to. The other reasons are all really secondary...
same here, but replace "mom asked" with "wife demanded". so what it really boils down to is if i don't wear a helmet i'm not getting any.

in relation to the BBQ, we should at some point in the warm future be like a bangladeshi family and gather as many riders as we can to go out to the island or other park with a bag of charcoal and a cooler full of meat for a giant public bbq. Also beer. I've always been jealous of those giant park parties and have on occasion been tempted to mooch some food off of them.
When I used to walk the dog I'd always have to be careful to spot these parties well in advance, because my dog would charge towards them full speed, generally making everyone scatter in a panic, and then he would steal some food and everyone would get so furious at me I swore I was going to be killed! Total vibe killer!
One time he sauntered up behind a little muslim girl with an ice cream cone, who then turned around and shrieked while my dog took off the top of her cone in one messy bite. Mother and father started screaming at me so there were 3 different people screaming at once! I didn't really know what to do so I just pushed 5 bucks at the guy and ran off with the dog! Darn greedy labradors!

To be the Devil's Advocate here....most folks from Asia don't EVER see dogs as pets. It's a trip for them, as they are dirty, filthy scavenging mongrels on the streets, never to be allowed in one's house let alone sleep in your bed. As well, I'd be kinda pissed you hadn't controlled your dog in a park. It's called a leash.

i'm a dog person (and my dog is a maniac who now has to be muzzled in public) so i tend to be understanding around other people's disruptive dogs, but i believe that as an owner you have to assume that people don't like your dog in their face, on their picnic bench etc. and so you should take steps to prevent it. at least, in the city anyway. in the country dogs can wander around and generally behave as they like and no one seems to mind. it's great.

I totally understand and respect that, and I always tried my best to keep him away from anyone who looked like they could be remotely put off by him. But when you have huge bbqs 30 feet away from off leash dog parks its bound to happen evenetually! I don't really know what I'm trying to say here and I don't want to defend any particular viewpoint on this... I guess people just really get angry about stuff...

This was the top section of riverdale farm, just before it slopes down to the off leash area. It was a block and a half away from my house so thats where 95% of his walks happened. I didn't really mean to open this up for debate, I was just relating it in passing since I was thinking about large park bbqs

hehehe.. I'm listening to music on my ipod and I swear every song that comes on I think "Hey! I love this song!"
Of course, the fact that I'm listening to the playlist "My Top Rated" on shuffle *might* have something to do with it.
I'm not too quick on the uptake today. :P
also: definitely down for a bbq on the island. I plan on spending many weekends there this Summer... disc-golf-a-rama. :D
Your mom? haha!
Yes, she has rheumatoid arthritis and big zippers and a bag that's not too huge is a good option for her. Most bags are too heavy or too difficult to open. 55 USD is a bit steep for me though. I'll try some shoppin' around.

Shiznaz
04-18-07, 01:04 PM
I wouldn't call it exactly easy to open. The zippers are heavy duty and quite stiff. 55 is a bit steep for a little bag, but its really full featured and there was obviously alot of work and thought put into it, along with all the exotic hardware. Its also cheaper than any other similar function bag I saw (mostly those lock holster/pouches). Probably not the best choice for your mom though...

Hey guys and gals, just wanted to intro myself. I am new on this computer forum, and it is a great diversion from writing essays to finish off the school year. I too like the band hot snakes, long bbqs in the park and riding my fixie to York U. 1/2 hour ride, I never see another bike. It is scary in the great white north. Cheers.

Who's the genius that puts BBQ pits beside the off leash dog runs..... no judgments made. If that's the way they set the park up , they're just askin' for trouble. The entire park used to be off leash (or at least not specifically on leash), and then one day they put up a metal sign with a map on it outlining the different on and off leash areas. There weren't even bbq pits in this park; people would just bring a ton of hibachi grills and use the picnic tables, many of which were basically bordering the off leash area. No harm done really to either side, its just caused some embarrassing situations I would have rather avoided. I really hope those kids don't grow up terrified of dogs, as it could degrade your quality of life given how common they are in the city.

I have found many ways to wear mine. I like the codpiece version or, as I like to call it, the toolpouch.

Same reply I got. I think next week I'm going to check this out. My insurance covers $900 for orthotics ( lifetime alotment I think) so it might be a major deal.

My coverage is only $300, so I'm out. I have a pair of Sidi's already, but you can't go wrong with another pair. That said, I only really need one orthotic, but I do want two shoes.

No sewing machine at my house, so I guess by hand. Plus I don't know how I'd get a sewing machine around the waterproof liner in my pack without taking the whole thing apart. I can easily get "behind" it (bag-within-a-bag kind of design) to do it manually though.

I just saw a few problems with that video
There are no bikes in city centre either (well, you can walk them)
that bus setup looks ***REALLY*** dangerous
no bikes on the road (makes things hard for speed demons)
You definitely need a feeling of community for this to work; people really need to work together in harmony. I feel we are all too individualistic and selfish here (as well as ethnically diverse and economically stratified) for this kind of approach to work right away. I know I'd be pissed waiting behind slower cyclists, but thats just because I'm not used to it.
They definitely have the right idea and some of the best cycling infrastructure in the world though.

If you watch closely you will see some folks blasting ahead by ducking into the traffic lanes but not as wide open in some respects. But again, it's what your used to. I also imagine they filmed at prime commuting time. I also get a little cranked behind slower cyclists, particularly the pedal and coasters. Maybe that's just a general sign for us all to slow down, at least when it doesn't matter.
And welcome nerdsgirth. I used to do a daily ride to Steeles and Leslie, so I know what's it like riding where people have never seen a bicycle before. It was always a pleasure to see the rare cyclist.

My lovely wife has the perfect solution. Take it to a shoe maker, dry cleaner, or to someone that does alterations and such. If they can't do it, they'll tell you who can. That's keepin' it simple and it won't cost much.
