yeah it's a perfect day to ride, which is exactly what makes me want to hide at home! i saw some footage of the lakeshore trails and it looked like a zoo *shudders*

so instead i'm doing some mending in the sun, and maybe go for a ride later tonight to watch fireworks.

Don Valley today= fun. There was a billion cars in the lot at pottery road, but surprisingly it wasn't too busy at all on the trail. Either that or we just kept getting lucky windows. :)

what was pyze-guy doing up in kingston? man, you know you're a cyclist when you recognize someone based on their bike...

I have family there and had some time to kill on Sat afternoon. Figured it would be well spent on a ride with John.

Figured out what the creaking noise was as well, turns out the left crank arm has 2 cracks in it. Crapola.

Also, I brought some vintage golf clubs from my cottage, 13 in all and there are going out in the trash next Monday night. Anyone wants to grab them for polo mallets, come and take as many as you want.

That is all.

i think vintage clubs actually have quite a following. i read about a historic golfer's society in toronto that meets regularly to smack around some balls in full classic garb: shants, socks and tams with all wood clubs. maybe they're worth something?

not that i'm discouraging their being reinvented as bike polo mallets.

Oh man those Canadian Tire motorcycle bikes weighed like 40 pounds each! What a ridiculous idea. That guy was really mad at us for riding them through the store.

Hey Canice just out of curosity what are 'tams'? Is that a regular part of vintage golfer attire?

Impressive/mundane moment: Stage 5 of the Giro, shot of Paulo Bettini with his right Sidi hanging out of his mouth (?!). Apparently his cleat had come loose, so he just took it off and kept up w/ the peloton pedaling one-footed while the mechanic in his team car tightened it up. Then he took it back and casually put it back on at speed (no holding onto the team car for this move).

Hello, massive dental bill if I tried that maneuver.

Tams are floppy hats. Totally a fixed requirement.

Not that vintage. Wooden woods yes, but reshafted in the 1980's.

Looks like a fine resource of inspiration for conversions.

Plus, he'll be done much sooner than the fixedgeargallery garage feature :)
The one with conversion done in 12 episodes, with one episode per month.

I am looking to buy a fixed gear wheelset, specifically, mavic cxp22s laced to formula hubs. I would prefer to get them built locally, by a good wheelbuilder, rather than take my chances with eBay. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should go, and how much they will probably cost?

Marinoni...used to be all hand attention all the time, but the latter part of the 20th century took care of that. While some customs can still be had, I believe it's mass made now. Not to knock what comes off the line now, but the old stuff was killer. You couldn't throw a rock in MTL in the 80's without knockin' someone off their 'Noni
