Meh, anyone I've ever liked as a rap artist is a sell-out to one degree or another. I can't even keep track anymore. The whole idea of street cred goes out the window once Mos Def is doing commercials along w/ Chuck D, etc. etc. ... ya, I can't even begin that conversation.

somnambulant

Yeah, I have to admit finding Missy a guilty pleasure. Although only bits and pieces. I think I mostly just like the production style on the last couple albums.. her lyrics are kinda brutal. :P

I'd also prefer to see El-P than MF DOOM. I can't believe he played here recently and I was totally clueless until several days after.

gettin paid on commercials as a struggling hiphop artist (or not) is onething...making bad music and promoting BS is another...musically mos def, and chuck D have never sold out.

Too bad I have to come downtown now.

P.S I know exactly where that stretch is. It isn't very bike friendly.

I'll second that.. I got into a verbal confrontation with a minivan mom about how I'm "going to get myself killed" last year just north of there, at the 401 on-ramp. According to her, I wasn't riding "far enough to the right" -- I guess that means on the on ramp itself?

On that note, does anyone have suggestions on what the best way to cross the 401 is in midtown? I've done the Don Mills overpass (a bit of a tiring climb if you're already tired), but I'm thinking closer to Bathurst/Yonge. I find that especially on these two streets (as well as Bayview/Leslie), drivers are full of rage and eager to get on/off the highway FAST.

That reminds me of when I interviewed to work at Kensington's a few years ago and the owner guy was totally channeling Marlon Brando as Kurtz. Creeptacular.

You should put a gps beacon on your bike so we can track you in REAL TIME!

The best I can do is to tell you I'm in Nanaimo right now... Do you know of any kind of web thingy like gmaps pedometer that I can update whenever I get the chance to show my route and where I happen to be at the time?

soooo, where the heck are you? have you fought any cabbies cabbies in other cities yet? take the international cabbie fighting belt! do us proud!

I haven't fought any cabbies, and drivers in BC seem to be very courteous... riding through downtown vancouver fully loaded not knowing where the hell I am going is way easier than doing any kind of riding in Toronto! They don't have much in the way of bike paths here, but they have a ton of 'bike avenues' which are basically small streets that parellel major streets where there is a bucnh of traffic calming stuff and bikes have right of way and can take the lane. Apparently enforcement is strict and drivers respect bikes. I did have to get in a cab to get to a hostel I was staying at while I had some last minute bike work done, and the guy was a freaking maniac. He broke so many laws I was considering telling him to stop so I could get out, but my bag was really heavy so I just put up with it. They have a bunch of hybrid cabs in vancouver which is cool.

I also spent a day riding with the vancouver BFSSFG crew, namely Lyledriver who is an incredibly cool guy and told me all the best spots and took me on a tour of the city.

And yes, as somnambulent said, I'm doing this for the pure fun of it, because I didn't like my job and I need to spend some time figuring out what to do with my life, so this is a great opportunity. I'm making my way down to LA, or San Diego or whatever, basically just picking and choosing my route along the way.

The weather here is light rain all weekend, but thats a far sight better than what you guys are in store for. Jeez, it must be like a sauna!

Where is a good place(s) to buy used mtb in town. A friend is looking to buy and has a $400 budget, and wants a bike he can do some trails on. I doubt it will ever see dirt, but his money not mine. Anyway, he is blinded by bling and wants this bike (http://www.sportchek.ca/sportchek/do/style?menuId=231&styleId=43680). IMO not worth the coin. So, can anyone guide me to a store where he can get a good mtb for $400 or less?

Colin, seems 400 is his top budget, I told he to pay what you want for yours, but no go.

tell him to take a look at one of the cheap KHS "city" bikes (http://www.khsbicycles.com/06_urban_x_07.htm) that urbane sells for about $450.

James: "Great minds think alike". Or is it "everyone imitate Dan because he's witty"? I can't remember which one it is. Meh.

Holy craptaxi what a weird day. My roomate said with the humidex it was like 40 degrees before the rain hit. It only rained like a mofo for a few minutes. Too bad the duration of the storm perfectly matched a run that went from Dundas/Roncesvalles to Queen and Logan and then up to St. Clair and Bathurst.

I don't know of anything, but you could always just screen-capture googlemaps or something and paint your route/location in using microsoft Paint (or photoshop or something if available, obviously).

What size? I have a bike in here on consignment for a customer. 17 inch Thin Blue Line aluminum...all LX...Xt rear mech and 737 pedals. Its in really good shape and he wants $500 for it.

An Ironhorse? Send your friend to Cavern, the consignment ride he's got would be a much better value

ahhh $400 is the ceiling? Sell him the Thin Blue line without the wheels, still a better value though it's harder to ride

I know, 2wheelsgood has a sweet ride for $500, but again, too much. What to do.

Oh well, spending the day going to bike stores, could be worse I guess.

Ummm... the bike he wants will be 399.99 **plus tax**, making it closer to $460 for a pos. He's only saving $40 for a bike that will still need to be tuned up after a couple weeks riding - I'm sure Sportchek will be all over that...

I've dealt with customers who would rather just buy a new disposable bike each time their's breaks down than take a good bike in for regular tune-ups. There you go, Canadian Tire - they're all your's.

I know, he's kind of stupid about things, like not buying a bike because of its colour. Cyclemania has a nice used bike for $450, good shocks and components, wheels etc with a new frame, but wrong colour and he wants new. Lubo can build him a better one than the ironhorse, but not as good as the used one. He even told my friend the used bike is better. And Colin has his available for $500 and it is way better then anything he has looked at. Crazy. He doesn't get the fact that a good used bike is way better then the crappo sportcrap bike with promax disc brakes for the same price. He is set on a bike to only ride on trails, thus the Ironhorse. Oh well I gave my $.02 and if he doesn't take it...nothing I can do.

Yea, who wants to take advice from someone that rides all the time? what to you know?
That and buyer's remorse can be waaay more expensive.

We get that a lot too.

You need a new wheel: $40
I'll just get another bike: $15.

Though in our age of consumption and excess, buyin' a new POS must make some weird sense to some. Many people are afraid of nice bikes for the getting-it-stolen factor.

Okay so, stage 15 of the Giro ... a bunch of guys are heading up a climb, Didi's running alongside them w/ his devil costume on. One of the guys grabs his trident and stabs the guy in front of him in the ass with it.

... that is all.

Ya, I love that logic: why get a pet? It'll just die eventually. Why date? You'll probably get dumped a few times. Make sure not to risk actually enjoying anything just in case something goes wrong.

You know it baby.....helmets for everyone!!!! BUY BUY BUY !!! Risk has been legislated out of existence.....hmm why is the population so bored and going on crime sprees? I know it seems silly but I really think there will be a true negative effect in generations to come to coddling our population way too much.
