What's the deal with the alleycats now? I did one years ago, and it was set up a race from checkpoint to checkpoint, and no one knows the route at the start of the race. People were running all different kinds of bikes, geared and fixed-and the guy who won was on a rigid MTB with slicks. It was fun.

[QUOTE=Shiznaz]Not to gross anyone out, but when I was in first year university in residence we took a big group out to the james joyce for saint pattie's day. People drank much too much and I had to pretty much carry two girls back to the residence building, but not before they both threw up on the street. Just taking a quick glance at the vomit you could see a golf ball sized congealed lump of green goo in each. ******** disgusting and I'm never drinking green beer again. It congeals into a gross stomach ball that I don't like to think about.
On another note: anyone up for the alleycat happening on saturday? I'd like to do it but I don't wanna go alone!QUOTE]

wha? alley cat this saturday? more info please!

it could have been worse; you could have been at the brunswick house.

People were running all different kinds of bikes, geared and fixed-and the guy who won was on a rigid MTB with slicks. It was fun. They are still pretty much the same. It really does depend on who is throwing the race and what format ie: checkpoint, scavenger hunt etc.

Modern Alleycats as they are known started right here in good ole Toronto. The "Alley Cats" were a bunch of Jet Fuel guys racing aroung parking lots in the middle of the night. Thus the term "Alley Cat" was born. Johnny still gets a little hot if anyone in Toronto uses the term alley cats but for the most part it has become a worldwide term for an urban/city race, usually organized by messengers.
If you want to win you have to be willing to forgo any traffic laws and ride around like a freak. But just riding it and finishing is a blast and I would recommend them to anyone. I have never had a bad time at an alleycat race. 5 time alleycat winner and Viceroy of the Toronto Underground Historical Society out!

Yes indeedy right by the messer hangout/stand by spot. It's changed names so many times I don;t know what it's called anymore. It's a cool little park, and a good spot to create a little cloud of smoke, but I don't think that's why it's called that.

TRaffic Jammer
03-15-06, 07:34 AM
yes it will always be one I think.....location location location. I'm imaging it becoming an HR block with all the messers still hangin outside. :p I'm reluctant to alleycat , I don't know the addys, nor the messers short cuts or codenames for buildings. Sometimes these things are not for the unfamiliar, and being alley cats nor should they be. A testament to the insanity that is messing.

Besides I don't think I'd wanna race the bunch of you. Things can pretty hairy and dicey, and I would hate like hell to have to decide between my line and a bud.

I don't mind racing around with friend's but racing friends' gives me the heebie geebies. I don;t like some of the choises one might have to make. Winning isn't everything but losing sucks, and there literally is only so much room on the street. If one of you guys went down in sight of me, I'd HAVE to stop....it's an alley cat not the TDF.

How small is this Sr20det person anyhow? :p

All kidding aside I prefer to leave the road alleycats to the messers.
I WISH i'd ridden that track we had here when it was Dunhill sponsoring.
One year my buddy's band was playin'...and friends were racing ...that track looked like an absolute hoot.

I heard it was for sale from a friend of the guy that was storing it. I wonder if it was boughtfinally.
