Freeland (1 east of Yogne at Queen's Quay) has been freshly blacktopped... the queens' quay path on the northside near The Star is of course filled with little sticky pebbles now. Beware.

@Rennick: Will do. However, I'm having mass craziness at work - as I'm sure you can imagine - so I'm not finished it yet. I ran into Afoe (sp?) today and there was some confusion as he thought he was drawing the flyer. It may be a collab effort if Mr. Toberman is down - which Afoe was checking.

feeler: anyone here interested in a mint-condition Canon Rebel XTi body? I'm thinking about picking up something a little more portable than an SLR setup. I also have a couple of lenses and a nice flash, but I might hang on to those.

This just in:

Disco Inferno
Saturday July 21
Price Chopper parking lot (Queen & Gladstone)
$5 registration (1 beer incl.)
Prizes & fun incl., no assembly required.

Deal as I know it is quick race through a few of the club districts. Possibly ending with some hard core boogey down. If all goes well, plans are in the works for more.

Anyone here doing Global Gutz on Friday?

Time of Disco Inferna?

okay so that bike i was tipped off to didn't really pan out, it was a used pista at cavern but it was just to big which is pretty disappointing. Keith was cool though and he gave me alot good advice and ideas. So im thinking im gonna go the conversion route and until i find a road bike i want to convert i want to get a 700c wheelset (fixed of course) and put them on my kona then transfer them to whatever road bike i get when the time comes. so that means im in the market for a wheel set. bikes on wheels has formula hubs laced to alex DA28's for 180 a set which is tempting. what kind of stuff do you have Keith? has anyone had any experience with that company selling deep v's on ebay? btw im looking for a 54cm c to c just in case anyone comes across one.

180.00 seems like a great deal for that set. I have Alex DA 22 rims same hubs & paid a fair bit more!

Edit Nice video guys.

I have a DA28 and always found it to be pretty solid, mind you it's Nestor-built tm. You may find that 700's won't easily fit on your Kona - the dropout distance is likely 135 on the Kona and much narrow ~126 or so on the roadbike you'll eventually find. You'll likely also have problems with clearance and brake contact on a 700 in a mtb fork.

If you want, I have a thread-on hub 26" you can have for free to either use a single speed with a bmx hub or, using lock-tite or jbweld, bum-bike on a sprocket for a suicide hub. Let me know if you're interested. I can put either a solid or hollow axle on for you.

--edit-- which may not work anyway with vertical drops, but you can still have the wheel if you want it.

Running a brake on the kona with 700 wheels won't be easy, and as Cav said, mtbs (most) are 135mm spacing and most track/fixed hubs are for 120mm spacing. I couldn't get a 120 hub to work on the mtb, the chainline was too far off to. The b/b on mtbs are wider as the are ment to run a triple crank and even with a road crank, ring on the outside the 120 was no good. Best bet for converting the kona is the eno hub. Running fixed on vertical droppouts is a pita.

@sweep: Thanks! We're both chompin' at the bit to learn non-linear editing - Fuzzz has the jump - this summer and what better way. His steady cam rig works sooooo good. Can't wait to find some good spots and get more people out for some shootin'. I believe there was talk of shooting some of the sprints as well.

FWIW, they might not actually be DA28s if it's from Norco catalog.. I ordered a rear black DA28/Formula hub from my LBS through Norco and they delivered DA22. We called to check and they said it was a "typo". Still a decent deal, considering that it's not much more expensive than the hub price itself.. basically for 30-40 bucks you get a DA22 rim/straight gauge spokes/okay machine build, and you can use the formula hub later if you ever want to rebuild with a nicer rim/spokes.

now that i think about it they may have been DA22's but they are definetly hand built and im sure about the formula hubs.

i've been scouring craigs list and i found this http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/365655999.html which is sort of interesting. the no name frame sounds sketchy but its has sugino (75? i cant quite make it out) cranks and a miche rear hub which are nice. mavic MA2's are really cheap though right? i dont think its worth 600 but id like your guys opinions.

$450 gets you a fixed track frame fully built from Cyclemania on Danforth. Can always check it out. Plus Lubo is good about building one to fit individuals. The frames and components are good there. $600 seems high for a used bike IMO.

Anyone have any experience with those urbanite track frames? they go for $300. Or is there anything nicer/used out there in the $300 - $400 (55cm - 57cm). Im also in the market for a track frame, any help from the shop owners in here would be much appreciated...and sorry to be the second dude in here asking this stuff.

$500 gets you a marked-down Masi fg bike at Bikes on Wheels if I'm not mistaken (probably am). Components might be **** but who knows, could be a good deal. IRO is proably the only frameset option in your budget. Shops in the neighbourhood will have access to IRO, Surly, Soma, Cayne (Uno), Fuji, Bianchi, Kona, etc.

PS. Don't get the Urbanite, ask Somnambulant for reasons.

Are you guys selling sputniks frame and fork or complete only? Just curious...

TanTris

if i remember correctly the masi at bikes on wheels is going for 570. pretty similar components to the fuji track.

I got in contact with the owner of the track bike i linked to on craigslist and he sent some high res photos. says hes pretty firm about 600 and he also sent a photo of a small dent (about the size of a dime) in the top tube. Should i worried about this? im thinking at the very least its a good reason to get him to lower the price. I tried to upload the picture of the dent but it keeps on failing even though i've reduced the file size below 100kb. Any way it sounds like a good deal to me assuming the frame is the same quality as all the other entry level frames it has some really nice components and i looked up the mavic DA-2's and apparently there old but good.

btw cavit8, thanks for offering the wheel, i might take you up on it if all this craiglisting crap doesn't work out.

i'm riding an urbanite ss/track frame and it's fine. nothing fancy (4130 straight-gauge), but it's solid, the paint is durable and it has fender eyelets. for that price it's worth it.

Urbanites I can't comment on, Cylcemania are generic import frames I believe. Last time I checked the wheels were formula hubs to alex rims, decent components everywhere else, been awhile since I checked out the track bikes there. $450 cash was the price I got (in October) w/out brake. Close to 500 with one installed. Most likely where I'll end up buying one if the money sitution is ever in my favour, which I doubt.

Last time I checked the wheels were formula hubs to alex rims, decent components everywhere else, been awhile since I checked out the track bikes there. $450 cash was the price I got (in October) w/out brake. Close to 500 with one installed. Most likely where I'll end up buying one if the money sitution is ever in my favour, which I doubt.

i'm riding an urbanite ss/track frame and it's fine. nothing fancy (4130 straight-gauge), but it's solid, the paint is durable and it has fender eyelets. for that price it's worth it.

thanks for the heads up, much appreciated.

i ride an urbanite as well. solid feel, rides smoothly, and stands up to abuse. the tradeoff is that it is heavy as a brick and not the snappiest ride. and err, you could find better deals.

wouldn't have bought it again if i knew any better. (shrug)

now that i think about it they may have been DA22's but they are definetly hand built and im sure about the formula hubs.

i've been scouring craigs list and i found this http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/365655999.html which is sort of interesting. the no name frame sounds sketchy but its has sugino (75? i cant quite make it out) cranks and a miche rear hub which are nice. mavic MA2's are really cheap though right? i dont think its worth 600 but id like your guys opinions.
$600 may be a bit high but you are getting a 75 crankset and a good set of wheels...far better quality than anything on the new bikes that have been mentioned. A dime sized dent in a steel frame will likely not be a problem at all. I would say make arrangements to see the bike in person...test ride it..and if it fits you well and looks in good shape (which judging by the pics it is) wave $500 cash in the guys face and see if he bites. $500 seems quite reasonable to me.
If you decide to go the new route a Cyclemania rig would be preferable to an Urbanite and come in way under price for the whole bike.

I think the Giant Bowery is below 600 before tax, somewhere in the $550.00 range, but I could be mistaken

Don't get the Urbanite, ask Somnambulant for reasons.

Without listing any reasons, yes, what he said. :)

The paint on mine is terrible.. My chainstays look like Mike chewed on them. Also: my fork doesn't have fender eyelets. ymmv.

exactly.. it gets me around, but if I had my time back I would have gotten something else.

i just got home from getting tattooed. my tattoo artist actually lives in the apartment next to mine and subsequently sees my bike a lot. he even asked me what was going on with fixies. "there's so many it's crazy!" he said.

ow, my chest hurts.

does anyone know of any mtn. bike trails (mellow ones, my gf is riding with me and as i mentioned before, ow)around parry sound? i'm going to oastler lake for the weekend.

that is all

you must be heat to toe by now! didn't you get a sleeve not too long ago? what's the name of your tattoo guy? i feel like it's time for me to get another and i'd like some recommendations for good artists.

BTW - brad, after you showed me your litespeed i have a theory on why they installed a shorter replacement head tube; i would guess that they measured your integrated headset without including the cups (ie treated it as a normal headtube). i don't know why i thought of that...
