Aug 2/3 originally but my friend backed out, so now I need to find someone else to ride with. I rode to StC solo last year and I nearly died of boredom.

if you make it aug 4/5 i'll come with you.

Oh wait nevermind.

just came across this on youtube, pretty freakin hilarious.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNO6G4ApJQY

I cant believe they said "truly epic lulz" on the news.

I'm sorry, this is the funniest thing i've seen today. I literally laughed out loud when they explained what "lulz" was. Oh man. This is probably the worst media sensationalist crap i've viewed all week.

Trolling, griefing and other anti-social activities is not new. And the fact that they had myspace users come and get interviewed just makes it all the more funny. When are people going to learn that posting personal information on a public website is just not a good idea?

And good luck to that lady who was trying to get the FBI interested in these cases.

riddled with incidents

I love incidents. And brakeless idiots. Recently I've seen more and more brakeless bikes in T.O riden by fools in crocs and flipflops. What a great way to ruin a bike.

followed by telling her her tires were lacking in air while puncturing them.

i was referring to the scooter guy who intentionally hit someone on a bike and then the cyclists that decided he wasn't leaving so they put him in a headlock. it wasn't the greatest cm ever. whoever led the group the wrong way down a one way past cop cars isn't going to help the cyclist image either. bad vibes all around. except for brad and tam of course!

Strange, I wasn't in the CM but I saw you guys go by and I noticed her on her conversion and thought about how unnerved she looked, it was a white Bianchi, right? I saw the forum meber who has that Rossin as well, sweet machine! I thought the vibe was a bit odd, especially when the folks leading went into the Eaton Centre; I thought it was going to be a mini-protest because of all those GM cars being displayed in the mall. Or is that a usual part of the route?

07-28-07, 05:09 PM
haha... the eaton's centre was a bit of a bust this time 'round 'cause we came in from the back side only to discover yonge street was closed! haha...

I didn't notice the girl on the fixie, but the scooter incident was lame. I'm not even sure he deliberately hit anyone, he was trying to get through. Stupid but not worth getting into an altercation over IMO.

So both you and TJ have Ariones. What are local prices like? I'm tracking one on ebay but I'd rather buy local if it's feasible... I need something that will work for longer distances and a green Brooks doesn't really fit with the Pinarello.

I will be there, most likely out on the front patio. This place is within a 15min lazy stroll from the university if I remember correctly from last year. Stop by if you have time and we can hang out for a few. I probably won't be out too late.

I've got them and I guess I like them enough... Some reviews site the weight as being a definite advantage but I don't really care about that (within reason), 20g per wheel? Like I give a **** when I've got 20 pounds of stuff on my back. :)

The major advantage as far as I'm concerned come into play when changing pooched spokes and they eliminate the need to line up the stem whole with the tape, not to mention the fact that they are reusable which is nice... Beyond that, I have them and would buy them again but I could never argue all that effectively for them over tape... Maybe some of you shop dudes could make a better case either for or against?

well it ended up that we only saw some riders for about 5 minutes at our halfway point. our fearless leader took us on an interesting detour down by a creek along gravel trails that no one in the rally would have wanted to do, so by the time we got back to the route everyone had passed. it was my longest ride of the year at 100km almost on the dot. kindof an expensive ride with the cost of the go train, but lovely to get the marinoni out on the country roads where it belongs.

MattRennick (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=88244): yup thats me, man word travels fast on the great internerd. Do you read BME alot? its actually amazing how many people i have met wroking for that site that are fixed gear riders. In november i organised a "tattooed kids invade the terrordrome" trip to the london veldrome through BME.

do you ride a unicycle as well? If so, I think I met you last year. :)

Bike ...crossWALK .... I don't know where he got his ideas from. The thought of using pedestrian crosswalks to get across the street after passing countless intersections.... does not compute.

MattRennick
07-30-07, 03:03 PM
I am guilty of riding across the occasional crosswalk and I understand why it's a bad idea and why those laws are in place - with that said, I also j-walk from time to time, understand why it's a bad idea and would still be kind of cheesed if I got a ticket for either just because I would only cross (in either instance) if safe to do so - I care far less about law then I do about principle. Unfortunately the cops don't agree.

If I ever end up with a bell ticket I will be absolutely furious. If cops want to ticket people for having unsafe bikes – they should start looking at all the broken down and barely rideable supercycles littering the city streets and people rolling around with their iPods blaring rather than picking on experienced riders on well maintained machines who know that a well timed “HEY!” or “YO!” will curbstomp any bell on any day. :)

I was the unhappy recipient of a $110 ticket few weeks back for riding through a stop sign. The kicker was - I saw the cop ahead of time. Never dawned on me that I'd ever get a ticket on a bicycle. Next time, I run from the fuzz !!

Anyway, seeing that CL link... I don't think the cop was looking stupid that day. Negotiating with traffic cops is a useless endevour, the see only black & white. They move to traffic duty because their wives tell them so.

Anytime I intend to go through a stop sign or red light, I check behind me and around me to be sure there are no cops around. I don't do it too often and I usually obey most traffic laws, the $110 fine is just not worth it.

I picked up a $187 fine for allegedly running a red a while ago - my court date is coming up in October. :)

I don't run reds because I know a cop will be there. The few times I have, fuzzy john was sitting in the bushes waiting for his cruller and double double to go down. And I've gotten off by looking contrite and being polite.
Stop signs on the other hand, I generally always will roll through, just like a real vehicle :D

To quote gumby on CL "I told him that and made him feel stupid..so then he looked at my bike and said ur getting another ticket for not having a bell." He didn't get a ticket for the bell, he got a ticket for opening his yap and the bell was conveniently absent. Anyone who just fell off the turnip truck will tell you beak + toronto's finest=bad outcome. He should have informed him that he also paid his salary.... that woulda learned him. Jeez.... I'm sure his fine attitude had nothing to do with the first ticket he got either.

I've been thinking about getting a bell for the road bike just in case I get pulled over... but thats kinda like a fixie in spandex :)

I went to the court office on Edward to please guilty with an explanation, hoping to have the fine reduced but the line up was soooo freaking long. I'd have to take a day off work. I decided to pony up the cash and be done with it. I'm much more obedient now.
