Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Another way to ask the question is: "would you rather have a dork, or a ****** for a girlfriend?"
Both! Seriously though nerdy girls rule.

i second the nerdy girl awsomeness but i have to remain old-school in the skating helmet debate. i would say not really needed as recreational skaters aren't exactly going breakneck speed. playing hockey sure, but doing laps in the rink, i dunno.

i forgot to mention this a while ago: if anyone is thinking of picking up a walz cap (http://www.walzcaps.com/) i offer my endorsement. great caps and well made for the price of the cheap caps you buy in shops (and they ship for free). oh and they fit huge melons like mine and the plaid makes you look like you're solving dickensian mysteries:

Yeah I agree, I should have clarified that. Nerdy girls are hawt. Helmets are unnecessary for recreational skating in my opinion. I do not necessarily see any connection between these two things.

I have a grey wool and a black and plaid. One had a defect when sent. They got back to me within a day and sent out a replacement. stitch stitch... three caps for two!

I don't think I did any shoppin' on Spadina but I definitely did some riding on Spadina today. Beautiful day to be out and about for sure!

Agreed - I have the same as pictured. If I have one complaint it kind of comes to a point on top but that probably has more to do with my head than the cap itself. ;)
*sigh* ... thanks for that, Wes.

Man that looked like a BLAST!!!!! I soooooo need to get out there next season....oh yes. Nice pictures, Mike is that your SO taking those? Is it some sort of sick joke to outline a course in the snow with white though? Man. anyone that has experienced snowblindness of any sort would have trouble seeing those corners... How evil was the ice on the striaght-away looking shots? The middle of the road looked clear of ice but just a filth run. An adult learning to skate....I'd recommend a helmet..least for a couple times.higher centre of gravity = a pretty good likelihood of a headslap until accostomed to falling on skates. It always seems to be fighting the fall that causes the injury, if you're goin' down, just fall, fighting it never leads to anything good. Yea we should all get out for a skate, that'd be a hoot!!

sorry, not to sound like a stalker, i just passed a gentleman riding leisurely in pink shoes with a shopping bag at queen and spadina. i thought it might have been you, but i wasn't sure, so i didn't say hello. i've been in fred mode.
re: caps i'm personally a fan of the urbanite caps for when it snows. almost covers my piercings entirely, and with a light balaclava underneath it's good for just about the coldest blizzards (if it's just cold windstopper layers slightly beats it out, but not for fashion!)
now if they only made them in argyle...

I was going to ask if anyone had tried the urbanite cap vs the walz. The urbanite caps look really odd on me. Like some sort of futuristic retro-modern chinaman. I'm up for a skate date.
I think it's worth noting that I was the only person wearing a helmet at harbourfront last night, but I think I was also the only grown-up that fell. pfft. Everyone else obviously wasn't trying hard enough.

On the skating debate, +1 to yes/no/yes for beginner/rec skating/hockey.
Cavernmech - got any saddles hanging around the shop? Not looking for anything spectacular, just keep missing out on good CL/forum deals and am still unhappy with the saddle on my commuter bike.

i've got an urbanite cap as well and the only difference i notice is that it is waaay smaller than my walz cap. not for the large craniums.

Good God Man, it's Steeple Chase not Show Jumping......
I spoke with Keith today and he's out of the shop at noon on Friday. I was thinking we could congregate at Betty's at 240 King Street East to feed Keith beers and grub (and indulge ourselves) on Friday afternoon. I was thinking later afternoonish say around 6:00 for a start time. I know it's mass day but it'll probably go for a while or we could arrange for an alternate time if it suits people best.

Also caught up on some Heroes yesterday, what a show... :D
ps.. bikey bike stuff.
Might go up the Woodbine hill tonight, I'm getting a bit bored of Bloor and the mess around Bay/Avenue still so may take Queens Quay/Lakeshore across.
PS, thanks for the warning Matt, too bad I don't have fenders on this thing yet.. I carry my waterproof jacket all the time now though ;)

Probably "just" the Campagnolo Record carbon brake levers:
http://www.campagnolo.com/pics/Time_Trial.jpg
If I remember correctly they did use a carbon Record crankset w/a cross-appropriate ring on it. Something about that setup caused a lot of headaches and he said he wouldn't be doing it again any time soon.

Personally, I wouldn't want them. They'd just be one more thing to get hung up on, catch something on the edge of the course, etc.
Once you were on the bike and racing it wasn't cold, or at least you didn't have time to notice the cold. I only noticed my feet feeling cold once during the entire race, and that was in a 5 second break between trying not to wash out in switch-back turns. Oh, and there was a bit of "my ass just got soaked w/ frigid mud water" clenching in the first 10 seconds of the race. On the last two laps I was actually starting to get too warm and would have ditched my arm warmers had that not certainly sent me into the underbrush.

Wow, on a folder? Hardcore. :D
I dreamt the other night about how to mount my homebrew lights onto my spacebar (been mulling this over for a good while now, too) it featured some vivid Canadian Tire scenery and specific angle-section metal glimpses for me to investigate :)
Wow, CX looks like it can be pretty hard on you....

just back from the food handler's training, so this might be long. the training was good. i can't believe it's not manditory, and i can't believe i haven't taken it already. also, a messenger passed me (on the right but that's besides the point) only to nearly get hit twice by the same car within seconds. he followed the vehicle around the corner and seem to be addressing the issue, but i was still going at speed and was already passed. yikes.

On the walz cap topic, don't forget it in your back pocket when you do laundry. Mine almost fits my son now. Anyone with a really small head out there...
Friday is good for me, and thanks as always to Keith for the great prices. Went in looking for a mtb wheel. 2 wheels, clipless pedals, lockring wrench, 3t bar and inline lever later I was out of coin and Keith can get some Johnny Walker Blue tonight.
Chocolate chip sour creme banana bread is sexy. Especially with a cinnamon sugar crust.
