Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
it's a race to Betty's to say thanks to Keith for all his years of keeping folks on the road. 6pm or even sooner to help secure space in the bar.
I'll probably pooch over for 5:30 or so.
And if anyone has a french threaded bike in 58 to 61cm lemme know. I just discovered my new Hatta headset is french-threaded...

operat0r: you guys have koolstop salmons at the shop? I gotta grab a new set of pads before I head of of town. My pads got absolutely pwned at provincials last weekend. :P
Dual pivots? We got dura-compatible ones. The one that comes with holder the dual compound brake pads and then an additional 2x salmon pads. We also gots canti koolstops. And the "campi" refills. I think we've run out of dura-salmon ones.
P.S Hope to see some of you guys at CM tomorrow.

The race I'm planning on doing on Sunday should be interesting.. :P
"At this point it appears that the final race on Dec. 2 is still a go, but please check for further updates. The current forecast is not very favourable. At the very least, we will not be using the hill to avoid bicycle-toboggan collisions. "
Ottawa forecast:
Sunday: Snow. Low minus 14. High minus 4.
Good dog man thats crazy talk!
*Cheers Keith i'll drink one for you.(or 4)

Toronto Star article on pipe bomb ******bag: http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/281334.
So, the emotional toll on everyone who thought there was a bomb in the area (general citizens and people who had to respond to the threat), the financial cost of all the local businesses being shut down and obviously the AIDS FUNDRAISER being shut down ... all to make a statement of what, people are scared of being blown up?
When I was in photography school at least the bull**** art just hung on a wall.
Cling to that artist statement like a ****ing life raft, kid and just keep telling yourself it was worth it.

"I didn't expect anything as crazy as what went down," said Jonsson, a third-year integrated media student at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
My favourite part of his logic was: " Then he went to the nearest pay phone, dialled the ROM's main number and keyed random numbers into its automated staff directory.
"There is not a bomb by the entrance of the museum," Jonsson said he told the unknown woman who answered."
I'm not a reactionary 'fry him' type of person, but if some idiot is so stupid that he did that not thinking something crazy would happen, he should be given two years of full time work with the AIDS charity that he screwed over with his stunt.

http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/toronto/archive/2007/11/29/fake-bomb-at-rom-part-of-ocad-student-s-project.aspx
Thorarinn Jonsson, 24, said yesterday he never expected the final piece in his art project to result in such an “overreaction”, since he left a note on the suspicious package indicating it was not a bomb.
“I expected police to take it seriously, and then to quickly realize what they were dealing with,” Mr. Jonsson told City News.
Yes, it's an overreaction for police to not trust a note on a bomb that says it's not a bomb. "**** guys, nevermind - it says it's not live! *whew*"
“It’s clearly a sculpture, but taking it out of context and putting it into another context by leaving it lying around, it certainly takes on a different meaning,” he admitted.
Ya think?! Did you just figure this one out or something?! What an absolute moron.

Certainly a step up from my previous employer.. Our UK office had a (literally) 100% turnover rate. :P
I think that tuition thing applies to ALL full-time, appointed staff. So it would apply to a full-time, "permanent" janitor. I think part-time/contract folks get some sort of tuition break calculated based on the amount of time they work or something as well. I might be wrong on both accounts, however. :)

Keith - Sorry I can't make it to your party tonight - I'll be on my way to Ottawa by the time you guys hit the bar. I may not have been a patron for as long as some folks 'round here but I most certainly appreciate everything you've done for me in the relatively short time I've known you and it is sad to see you go... BUT... I'm glad to see you moving on from something that you weren't into any more. Here's to bigger and better things - I'll pour a little juice on the concrete for Cavern Cycles.
Everyone give it up for Keith!

I hope they fry that little prick who planted the "Bomb". He's totally pooched. To say he didn't expect a problem but he pre-consulted a legal office? Nice try. They should put a replica gun in his hand (sorry, sculpture) and cut him loose in the local precinct and videotape that. The only thing he can say is "It's art!" ..... grrr.. And thanks, local OCAD profs, for not considering if this dimwit had left his "Sculpture" behind...
And with regards to Bettys, it is a local hangout for George Brown, the Sun etc. so may be pretty packed. I'll try to get a table visible from the door, but it has two discrete rooms and a second floor. If you don't see us, just keep looking. I'm going to try to be there for 5:30.

From what i've heard, the kid who did this bomb thing is the same kid who was arrested and in the media not too long ago for doing a 'performance' piece where he threw up on actual artwork in the AGO.
I'm interested in knowing who the teachers were that got suspended and how much they knew about this before hand.
I had a teacher there who worked for adbusters for a couple years and assigned "culture jamming" projects.

2) My visit to Ottawa is off, so I'll see you guys tonight. Cam, I'm gonna aim for around 5:30 as well. I'll PM you my mobile number in case you don't have it and there's any trouble.
3) Anyone doing any rides this weekend? I'm gonna try and get out for a ride tomorrow and/or Sunday morning methinks.
4) TrafficJammer: how are those winter cycling shoes treatin' you?
Do you figger you guys will still be around Betty's after CM? Like 7:30-8ish?

Is it winter? My toes can't tell. I'm headin to Betty's right at 5 and will try to spread out, generally be obnoxious as to create some room. I may try to call em soon as well see if we cant reserve some safety room.

My lovely wife and cutsie daughter(10yrs) are at The Friendly Thai. They bump into Keith's SO. yak yak yak. 'Oh yea, Safety Meeting is tomorrow..." Daughter pipes up, "It's not so safe, because they drink" out of the mouths of babes....I love my fam.
OK.. he checked with a lawyer...
Well Mr. Art student.... I've supported and known many artists doing some of the freakiest **** imaginable. This was public nuisance. How many emergency services were brought out, and how much did they all cost? How much did the AIDS foundation figure they lost? How many people could have been killed potentially leaving the site? How much money in new dresses, tuxedos, dinners and babysitters got wasted? ADD it all up and THAT should be this kids' bill upon leaving school with his art degree. And maybe a few hundred hours community service in an AIDS ward for him for a little perspective. Welcome to the real punk-ass.

X-HD format question for the NerdsTM 500G usb2 Lacie external. Ms-dos fat32 formatted. Can't copy <4G files form my Mac to it. What format will be both usable in OS-X, XP and Vista? This will so I might use it on my daughter laptop, home PC and my MAC. The format and what box I should format from is the geeky question. I know NTFS shouldn't work at all on the MAC. There is aread/write version of NTFS for OSX (http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/) using MacFUSE (http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/). I think it's still experimental (i.e. may bork your files?) but it might be worth a shot. As you said, FAT32 has a 4g limit so I think NTFS is probably your only choice. (Or, if it's just a once in a while thing, copy the files over a wired LAN -- 4G over 100Mbps doesn't take _that_ long)
somnambulant
11-30-07, 12:35 PM
I thought that Macfuse thing only let you READ from ntfs..? Either way, I've heard very mixed things about it. There's always the potential of creating an ext2 (linux) partition as there are free drivers for both OS X and Windows out there, and it doesn't have the filesize limitations of fat32.
Of course, if it's just going to be a 'drop box' sort of thing you could always use something to split giant files into smaller chunks first. Not the best solution, but it could work.
editor's note: it's been years since I had to deal with anything like this, so the above could be totally ******** nonsense. ;)

I was gonna say NFS, but Winblows didn't used to play well with NFS... SFTP/SSH[scp] (google for sftp.exe download from the PuTTY dude(s)) into it from the Windows box to the Mac and grab it that way if feasible.
If they're under 4.3, burn it to a DVD? or a DL if need be - might be easier, depends what you need them for, if you need RW, then a disc is only going to add an extra step in unneeded.
I'll be going east from work so will be at Bettys' before 6...

"This hot hunk right here from Hyannis, Massachusetts won $1 million in the lottery, but the probelm is he wasn't supposed to be gambling. 55-year-old Timothy Elliot is on five years probation for robbing a bank and the courts ordered him to never gamble again after they heard he had a major problem.
Timothy will lose his winnings and the court will decide if he will be sent to the clink for violating his probation. They will also decide where his cash will go.
DAMN! I was about to pack up my flight iron and hustle on down to Hyannis to marry this hot *****. I've always wanted to be a trophy wife and he'd be my perfect hot daddy.
