Fun things to do in a kitchen #42. Throw a few twoonies in the deep fryer for a few minutes. Place on the floor where the waiters who don't give kitchen free beer walk by. Stand back and enjoy.

You know how everyone jokes about how bad doctor's handwriting is? I'm spending my morning going through medical reports, and it's terrible. I know you need to write quickly, but I would suggest that a 3 year old can make lines with more distinction than doctors.

there is an episode of curb from this past season (which was the best season yet) where larry david is dating a doctor and he has to get a love note translated, it turns out badly, obviously.

I've seen some of the episodes this season, and they are great, but I haven't seen this one. That's a classic premise.

What? Larry and Cheryl split up? She is so hawt! I haven't seen that show in ages but the "I had sex with my uncle" episode still kills me.

Yeah, because Larry broke up with his wife in real life, I guess it happened on the show.

There comes a time when the intardnet gets boring and pr0n has to step in for a while.
Anyone ever bought the build kit from IRO? Is OK?
My budget is vastly disappearing, so I'm thinking I'll get hooked up with that first so I can get the bike rolling.

I think we could tear apart every single component of that build kit and go on about how it's inferior to something else, but at the end of the day it is a complete build kit which will get you riding ASAP at (probably) the best price out there. Also, if there's any problem with one of the parts Tony is about the best guy online to bring those issues to.

Urbanite w/ Deep Vs or Cannondale Capo.

urbanite + deep-v's = heaviest bike evar. That being said, the Cannondale doesn't appear to have fender bosses, if you're planning on using this as a commuter/city-bike/whatever. Although I guess some of you have daily-riders without fenders anyway. :)
edit: However, yeah, still no contest.. take that from someone who owns an urbanite. :)

Agreed, I've dealt with Tony a fair amount and am a huge supporter of the company as a result - great dude.
As far as the kit is concerned - the cranks are certainly good enough (I've had a few sets and never had any real problems with them) and the bottom brackets are decent. I like the IRO BBs more than the lower end Shimano ones - mostly due to the metal cups on both sides vs. the Shimano which have one plastic cup. The cogs are supposed to be decent - I've got one but it's never been ridden. The lock rings are formula lock rings which will do the trick but I'd spend the $10 on a Dura Ace.
With all that said - if you track down some cranks / bb I've got a 15t IRO cog, lockring, seatpost & 3/32" chain that came stock on my last IRO that I'd be willing to get go on the cheap. ;)

Gotta wonder just how bad the urbanite is. I mean, its just regular 4130 steel, but is it a bad frameset. FWIW, the bike would be used for pretty much anything and everything. Also thinking about using it to commute to & from school, so something that's not a thug magnet would be good.

Where in the **** should I get some Velocity Aeroheads from? Urbane (read: carrie, or however you spell his name) is being incredibly unhelpful about actually ordering me in any.
I'm fine with mail order if it comes to that. I've found places in the USA that appear to carry them, but I'd prefer to go with a source that someone has experience with.

I spoke with him about aeroheads the other week, and I got a distinct feeling that he didn't like 'em. He was leaning more towards Ultegra / Open Pros because of price & durability.

Velocity got picked up for 2008 by Orange Sport...They are now the Canadian distributor so any shop that deals with Orange can get em for you. I think that guys purpose at Urbane is to be unhelpful and surly....he's stealing my bit! For the record I built up tons of Aeroheads when they first came on the market....while un-eyeletted they are still pretty durable.

It is indeed - Sara shot it and I retouched it. Which one's your's? Did you hear about the gallery thing that's happening? I want to print a thing or two and put some work up. If you're thinking of doing the same, give Tricera Imaging a call. They're really good for printing at decent rates.

Never get tired of reading/hearing that - gives me great confidence in the brand and the guy, I spoke to him briefly last week and he seemed stellar, very helpful to my n00b questions.

Reee-eeee-eeaaa-aaa-llyy. Not sure what I'll need yet, mucho thanks for that, I'll definitely holler if I need anything. I was planning to 'upgrade' the lockring, I figured everything else should be cool though, just heavier than the bling-erer components I guess.

I've found that when my rims aren't gripping the road well, adding tires sometimes helps.. or did you mean for braking? ;)

Hey guys,
Urbanite w/ Deep Vs or Cannondale Capo.
i'm an urbanite owner and probably a little biased (and let me say that i like the cannondale) but for multi-purpose use i'd probably do the urbanite. personally, i'd rather get some nice hand-built wheels and a frame that can take fenders and wider tires but that's just me. i still have a set of "cheap" wheel from urbane that were built in 2001 and they run perfectly and are true. although they were built by nestor.

Martin is the bald dude with an intense stare, who you might initially suspect as being slow, until you realize he's just really knowledgeable, but works at his own pace. He's pretty kick ass, and will take the time to explain just about anything... unlike that creep, Rob.

You mean I have to use tyres AS WELL? Jeez! I always figured the two channels would cut right through snow/ice/cars? :p
Yeah I find in the first ~5mins it takes a bit for the pads/rims to work out their differences, but eventually they play well together (cheapo MEC pads, no road koolstops for me yet).
Keep getting my clothing wrong this week, was WAY too hot this morning, yet when the wind gusted, not so much. Maybe I need to get a lightweight windbreaker shell.
Martin @ Urbane is great, I've always found him very helpful and willing to take time to talk things over - when I took my Canadian Tire MTB in last year he took time to answer all my questions. I've seen him pop his head into CBN once in a while too, though I personally haven't been to CBN since the July Critical Mass night.
Oh yeah and WTF happened there Mike? Sounds like an interesting twist to the ride home.
