It would be interesting to see if wearing a shirt that said "You are being videotaped. Drive carefully" would make drivers pay more attention to cyclists

Occurrences of people giving you the finger would probably skyrocket.

I'm going to record all commutes, if nothing of note , deleted. Interesting stuff will be sampled down and added to my PSA how-to in traffic site, complete with after effects vis-a-vis Madden football graphics...and voiceovers. So if the car is gonna go here ...freeze it, then you DON'T want to be but rather here *circles* OR here *cirlces* .... If something REALLY interesting happens I can bring broadcast video to CITY or the police... mount run and forget it..

Vids of hairy traffic riding will be killer, velodrom solo laps, races all that stuff.

Looking forward to funky mounts, showing bits of bike while riding. Fork mount showing 1/2 front wheel?

I had plans to do some PSA type vids but time got in the way, and then effort with regard to editing the videos (not my first skill ;)). What camera is it again? I've not used mine in a little while, I used to forget if anything happened and then end up with 1.5-2 hours of footage a day to plough through, so I stopped :( I wish I'd had it on in my two falls last week :)

I'd love to get some pace line vids at the track , but I can see only being allowed to film solo laps.
54mins on a 2G card pretty sweet.

Wait, the cables are replaceable on the Ultimate Ears earphones?! ****ing sold!

Given that the right channel of my Sonys gave up the ghost last night I think it's time to cough up for some new headphones. These seem to be the front-runner: http://ultimateears.com/_ultimateears/products/superfi/superfi5eb_description.php

critical mass was small in numbers, but strong in spirit. around 40-50 or so at the most, but it dwindled down at some point. it started to rain once we got to dundas squre, so people pretty much disbanded at that point. sure started pouring, but of course by the time we got home i could have kept riding. and i *almost* skipped it. thank goodness for an almost entirely sensible route.

ps. Nerdsgirth: you must have a doppleganger that haunts the west side... both bRAD and i went to stop and say hello to someone we thought was you (one-speeder, red bearded dude in white helmet :p )

I came back across town as fast as I could muster with the trailer on, but it was 7pm by the time I got to Church and didn't fancy trying to find the Mass pack, so I soldiered on toward home... Kinda bummed I missed the last one of the year, but there'll be more.

Riding across the city with the trailer on this time was a little more iffy, had a close (well, close enough with my precious behind me) buzz early on that set me on edge a little bit. Totally glad I had the tailwind with us though because going east tonight sucked the life right out of my legs at points, and I was riding light! Road bike + trailer won all prizes thankfully. I stuck to my 52/19 gear (~73GI vs ~72 on my FG build) and trundled away, I wonder what riding fixed will be like with a trailer on the back... scary? :D

yeah, the wind sure was wailing tonight. i'm surprised you didn't over take us, as we uncharacteristically took bloor west to dufferin. this is the first winter i've had gears, and i have appreciated them. that, and being able to keep my bike inside at work and home.

12-28-07, 08:46 PM
Ah weird - I must've just been behind you all without realising, as I went all the way over to Lansdowne today (wanted to show the little one those neat light displays on the houses :)).

I had true doubts on the "hill" start at Dundas/Lansdowne (heading south over Dundas there's a fair hump when you've an extra 100lbs in the back :)) but I clipped in and hauled us over into a nice downhill under the railway bridge :) I do usually take Brock now, and the same shortcut across that you and Brad showed me. I've stayed away from Brock since it thawed and re-froze last weekend, I didn't fancy running into black ice down there, but haven't done much cross town riding with the holiday junk going on.

+1 to storing bike inside at work and at home, massively grateful I'm able to do that.

In other news, I'm 15kms away from 6000 on that road bike since May. Considering it was a freebie, it's held up incredibly well, too - I've treated it pretty badly really - go Centurion I guess! :)

No, but I did some quick searching and came up w/ these guys: http://www.earphonesolutions.com/uleasu5ebeab.html. They seem to be the cheapest of the dealers listed on the U.E. website. Also, it looks like we could get free shipping. I haven't looked too hard at random other online stores ... eBay seems like it might be comparable if you want white earphones (watch out for the shipping though - some are ridiculously high).

Yep,

- Phil Wood (avec cut out flanges) hubs
- Mafac brakes

- townie bars

Happy birthday, Keith!

So ... I was just about to head to bed but before that I wanted to check the quality of No Country for Old Men, which had just finished downloading. Needless to say, I kind of got sucked in. What a great movie.

Let all the air out, then squeeze out the rest of the air (every little bit will help with this). Press the sides of the tires off the sidewalls of the rims and in toward each other. Go all the way around and listen to the sickly/satisfying seal break loose. While you at it, make sure the tire bead drops down into the center groove the rim.

Now you need to really concentrate on starting at one point on the rim, pressing the tire beads hard into the drop of the rim and holding them there as you move away from the spot and further outward along the rim on either side (toward to exact opposite point on the rim). The idea here is to get yourself as much slack as possible so you can pull the tire off the rim on the other side.

PS. If you've got Continental tires save yourself the blood blisters and pick up some new levers on your lunch break.

Anyone want to ride out to East Humber Bay Park with me this morning for the 'cross race? :)

The race starts at 12:30, so I was thinking about leaving at about 11:30.

thanx mike...doh! I got it on but im gonna have to redo...I can see its not sitting properly as i pump up the tire....the lines are all curvy like the tire is not inflated right. I took the stupid tire all the way off...ok so now just deflate and make sure tire is in rim proper then pump up?
