Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

it might not be realistic, but everyone should get some kind of homeowners insurance for peace of mind. take it out of the peeler's budget.
Speaking from experience, sometimes renting above a retail business makes renter's insurance a financial impossibility.

And yeah, insurance is pretty damn cheap, so it's definitely a good idea. Both for covering your own belongings, as well as liability insurance to cover your arse in case you wind up flooding/burning/etc the place!
nuff said. my homeowner's paid for my bike that got ripped off at bloor/christie a few years back.
(let that be a lesson: too much gamjatang (pork bone soup) is not good for your bike.)
it would be funny to re-create that shot right at that location! sorry som, was that what you meant?
see if someone can discern where it is exactly... some ref pics:

"If you are experiencing harassment in your workplace, call the Ontario Human Rights Commission at 1-800-387-9080, or the Workers' Information Centre at (416) 535-9875 for Toronto residents. If you've been forced to quit work due to harassment, call the Ministry of Labour at 416-326-7400."
Good eye, me n the wife initially figured Ministry of Labour, but OHRC was what google recommended since we didn't consider the job loss. No way should she have to put up with that in this daynage

interesting.. elaborate? how much more would the premium be? i know a lot of people's budgets are stretched thin as it is; there should be enough options out there to suit individual needs.

Funny, my gf said we should do a ride and try and recreate the photo. 'Twas a much classier time! :) I wonder where exactly that was shot.

it looks like it's looking south on bay just a bit south of queen. ...even the detailing on some of the ruined facades are gorgeous.

I work at suspect man, this sucks, all our stock....
Oh dude... I'm sooooo sorry! I called Daniel as soon as I heard. I'm totally dumb struck. That was the last block of old Queen W. The final nail in the coffin.
And I cannot imagine what Mr. Duke will go through when he sees the store he's worked almost all of his 80 or so years. I was just in there on the weekend chatting with Derek and Gary. Brutal.
Oh and speaking of the 1904 fire, this is my absolute FAVOURITE and cannot stop watching since I found it - ironically - just a few weeks ago: http://www.toronto.ca/fire/news/100/index.htm

Thanks for all the advice guys. Mindy will be making the appropriate complaints (thanks for the #'s and offer Dave) I am just gonna stay away from the place and appreciate y'all puttin' the word on the street. They actually have in their Liquor License Application right now...I wonder how the charming crew in there will be when they get a few pints in em.

that was mine, we must have talked b4 then, i'm the bigger guy with dark hair who loves steven seagal movies.
Yes, we probably have, Toronto is small. I don't recall any conversations about Steven Seagal but are you the guy I talked with about Roy Scheider last week?
I rode by that bike shop in the Annex (I can never remember the name) and they have one of the Fuji Obey bikes in the window and it doesn't look all that bad. I am sure it is pretty expensive but I kinda like it....bearing in mind that I have a black/gold bike already, I guess that is no surprise.
I was in Urbane a little while ago and one of the mechanics and I were talking about my bike and he seemed to think the rims I had were Mavic Open Pros. We got to talking about the rims because they haven't needed a truing in years and they are still true. There are no stickers on the rims at all but they are super-solid rims, aero, grey-anodized and laced to 105 hubs. Anyone know if there is a serial number or something inside the rim? They were on a Gardin bike that I purchased years ago for a girlfriend....32flavs has that frame now.

On a lighter note, I have some HED wheels. There has been a discussion with my friends on how to pronounce the company's name. Is it Hed like heed the way, or Hed like head?

I've always just assumed it was pronounced like "head". Speaking of which, I've been oggling these: http://www.hedcycling.com/ardennes.php. mmm.. 23mm wide and lightweight. Wish I could try 'em out. Maybe there'll be a set at the bike show..?

Hi there,
I've been lurking in this forum--and this thread, in particular--since Jan '06. I'm a bit shy and never introduced myself even though I have met a few of you who work/worked in bike shops (Rob, Keith, Mike). So, hi!

Totally off topic but I had to share.
Mindy was at work yesterday..The Friendly Thai...doing her usual bang-up job. Out of nowhere the manager of the place asks her "Is your pootah clean?"

I was planning on trying to take some eclipse pics but freaking cold + I forgot that I loaned out my tripod = blurry reddish moon-shaped object.
EDIT: OK, this one ain't so bad -- for those who can't make it outside / living in the southern hemisphere:

You guys keep talkin' about this hot tub, but until you invite me over I'm going to be very disappointed in the both of you. :D
I vote that the next scotch party takes place in the hot tub.
Of course, now I'm thinking about the SNL skit with Will Ferrell and I'm both laughing and a little freaked out at the prospect of sharing a hot tub with this crew.. ;) http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/58c273a4f9
Also: lunar eclipses happen way too often for me to get that excited about staring out my window at them, particularly when it's nasty cold out, but also when I'm downtown in a large urban center.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned all the unfortunate/odd new happening on the same day as an eclipse. coincidence!?

When Cavern Cycles was an obscure, underground shop, Eugene was the first guy to help us out with stock. He gave us great deals on stuff, when no-one else would, and actually enabled us to grow our business. When his business partners objected to him helping us, he went to bat and made the effort to continue our working relationship. Top-Notch person. On the rare occasion I found myself at Urbane, he was the one I always asked for. He will be missed. K.

I finished my Razesa re-build last week but there is a lot of ice outside and haven't taken her out yet, just on the rollers. It rides better than it did before as the wheelset is stiffer. I cannot find the original 600 chainrings, they will probably turn up one day but for now the chainrings look a little out of place as they are newish 105 rings on an old 600 Arabesque crank....

All are welcome...the only prerequisite being everyone needs to bring a bottle. If you are coming as Wes's date perhaps we can let ya skive in on his bottle. Otherwise pick one up. cavit8 posted up a link to help you choose a good one if you are unfamiliar with the different regions. It would be nice if we could represent as many different regions and distillery's as possible. This is what I have on hand. Highland Malts...Dalwhinnie 16yr...Glengoyne 17yr...Strathisla 12yr. Islays...Lagavulin 16yr...Ardbeg 10yr. Not sure what everyone else is bringing?

Thanks for the compliments on the new build, I just have to track down some Razesa decals to complete it.
I'd like to come out, I have a new bottle of Johnny Walker Black that I picked up when I was last in the States, are blends kosher or frowned upon? My mom is in Scotland right now, what should I ask her to bring back?
