Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Cover for video night, Anyone, Bueller..?
Assuming you're talking about Klunkerz/Still We Ride -- there's no cover, it's a bikechain event. Wish I could be there, but I sadly need to be elsewhere. I really wanted to see "Still We Ride", and we were supposed to show it at the last movie night, but it hadn't arrived in the mail yet.

This set is infinite I think
You think? *Actual* weights, not advertised weights? And also in rideable condition (ie. with pedals/bar-wrap/etc). Got any examples? Just curious.

My point being bikes are bikes and planes are planes. There are so many more variables than just material so it's not an apt comparison.
One time someone brought their schmancy belt drive bike into the shop and was impressed that her drive belt was made of Kevlar- "The same thing they use in bullet proof vests!" I couldn't help but think that my chain was made of steel- "The same thing they use for tanks!"

Spoken like an engineer. Materials are only a part of the equation after all. I can imagine aircraft and bike CF being distant cousins. Would a frozen CF frame/bar shatter/break easier than say room temp or summer heat if dropped? I simply don't know enough about this wundermaterial.

32s max on which bike? That seems pretty narrow for a max tire size on a cx bike. I ran Michelin Muds all last season which are marked as 30mm, but apparently they're closer to 35mm in reality. I think Mike has measured a few different sets with calipers at the shop. Still lots of room left with those on my bike for the gunk to escape.

Has anyone ever taken that bisegal frame building course for $700? Where you get taught how to build your *own* custom steel frame?

The HOP uses Columbus Zona Megatube tubing. The 1700g frame is stable, fast and agile, and offers ample clearance for tires up to 32mm wide. Great for cycle-touring, it is equipped with eyelets for a rack.
The ULTRA HOP holds champion titles in Quebec and Canada and is Xprezo’s top of the line cyclo-cross offering. Its octogonal Columbus Spirit front triangle tubes and Columbus Zona rear triangle minimize weight while conserving the optimal ride characteristics of steel. Produced for connoisseurs, the ULTRA HOP's 1465g weight facilitates climbing both the trail and the podium.
So I am not crazy in that that seems a bit thin? Is the HOP narrower than the Ultra HOP as far as clearances?

You don't love your daughter?
Must be the case or do you just prefer to disregard her personal welfare?
I'm sure she had on a helmet while you rode with her in your arms.
Funny how attitudes have changed about safety. When I was little kid(70's and 80's) I rode with my dad on the top tube of his ten speed all the time and we went damn fast. No helmets, either. Don't know that I'd ride like that with my kids, but that has more to do with child services being called on me if I did than worrying about crashing with them. I'm sure jit know what he's doing per his kid.

Quit stressin' and just pick one already.
Teddy ran a few of my tires this season and didn't have any clearance issues. It will be the same
for both. If it worries you that much just ask him to build it with a little more clearance.

I like malcolm and all...but...it seems a bit presumptuous of someone who doesn't have 25 frames under his belt to be teaching anyone. If you are serious go to UBI ...or Yamaguchi....or someone else with serious experience not only building frames but teaching others how to.

Hahaha, hi Dave :) (Dave's my buddy with the left side drive ride he brought to sprints last year, the fateful night of the "operator incident" for those who met him).
That Klunkerz movie was really cool - for me, I'd never even seen what the likes of Gary Fisher/Tom Ritchey/Joe Breeze even looked like - a really cool movie about some very recent history.
I didn't catch all of Still We Ride, but what I did see looked purely *nuts* heh.
Nice to see Fuzz and our resident Dr Benway there, was a chilly night to be out - though it was warmer AFTER the screenings than when we arrived before, go figure.
Brad/zippered - you guys heading to CM tonight?
Post-Mass screening @ Bike Pirates anyone? Details:
FEB 29 after Critical Mass, 7-8pm
Hot Chocolate and food for thought are rewarded to anyone that bikes in the heart of the urban jungle. And if you miss the bike ride, come and partake in a screening of Beijing Bicycle!

Guys... in your opinion is the slightly steeper angles in a more agressive frame really that noticable?
Have any of you ridden/have both?

My mtb is fixed, or did you mean fixed mtb for trails.
Anyway awesome looking bike, serious saddle to bar drop though. I thought my bike was pretty severe.
yeah, I meant for the trails.

Sexy bike, love the 'urban' look, great non-descript colour. I love how those bars look, but as pyze said - that saddle/bar drop looks a 'tad' aggressive :p For cruising/bombing around that seems cool, personally I don't trail ride much anyway and the thought of a FG in the trails doesn't enthuse me at all (though now I think about it, it's probably pretty sweet, proper ratio assumed)

Possible dumb question here: is there an actual difference between a rear and front road caliper? I'm looking at getting the Shimano BR-5501 caliper for my build, but the front is out of stock, rear is not where I was looking - so it made me wonder what the actual difference is between the two.

I'm going to Ottawa next weekend for a friend's baby shower, so I'm likely gonna hit the show on Friday. So, let me know when's a convenient time to pick it up. Or are you gonna drop them all off at Ye Olde Bike Jointe?
Also, while I hope that Spring bike show = Spring weather, I'm trying not to anticipate that actually being reality.

Front caliper bolt is longer (to bolt thru fork, as opposed to smaller brake bridge). Usually, anyway.
