Op: Do you know if LordFoo is on the list for Track 1 on Saturday?

I scheduled in for 5 peeps, and 4 is confirmed right now, so that leaves 1 free spot.

All yours iherald. You have to be there 10:30 sharp for tarck 1 then there's a optional rec session at 1 if you want to do that as well. $30 including rental. Bring pedals and shoes if you got them.

I remember it being especially cold at the beginning when you're doing more standing around listening than riding. Concrete floors+ cleats= cold feet
Not too bad once you have a chance to get out there and ride though.

If you are wearing meshy summer shoes like I was..... thin shoe/toe covers mighn't be a bad idea. Man my feet were cold. Thus far passes to Brad a la lunchish.

I like malcolm and all...but...it seems a bit presumptuous of someone who doesn't have 25 frames under his belt to be teaching anyone. If you are serious go to UBI ...or Yamaguchi....or someone else with serious experience not only building frames but teaching others how to.

+catastrophic failure/lawsuit/no insurance/what the hell is he thinking - he's still learning and has a long way to go

Nice - I've always been happy with my Rocky Mountain... I mean, I haven't ridden it a lot lately but it being my first "good" bike I'll always have a soft spot for it... If only the graphics weren't so ridiculous. ;)

My first "real bike" was an early-90s Rocky Mountain Hammer (steel, rigid, full DX, POWER ****ING GRIPS). I loved that thing. This morning I actually started my research on figuring out exactly which model I had. If I can get another frameset in "grown-up Mike size" I'd love to turn one into a ss winter bike/trip down memory lane.

Not if you get a top pull derailleur

Top-pull front derailleurs that play nice with modern (9/10sp) compact road drivetrains ... doubles, no less?

Now that I'm not sure of. Indexed front shifting. pfft. Especially on a double.
Is there even such a thing as a friction front shifter anymore (in Brifter form)

<not a mechanic>I would think that you _should_ be able to get a double working with brifters regardless of pull, as the double brifter gives up plenty of slack (i.e. enough to fall off to the inside of the small ring). Set the high end so that it's in the right place (i,e. so that the high limit screw doesn't do anything), and you should be able to use the low limit screw to hit the right place for the little ring.

EDIT: Also, if it helps, I know that the double brifter for 105 and up has a click's worth of trim adjustment.

somnambulant
03-04-08, 09:44 AM
My left Campy brifter isn't really "indexed" like the right one. There are clicks, but there's like 15(?) of them, not just 3 like my 105 stuff. It's nice that way as I can trim the front mech as needed to get rid of any chain rub.

My first real bike was a Wicked Fat Chance. Man I would love to have that again, 14 speed (mtb casette with 53-39 rings), dx thumb shifters, mavic ceramic rims and dx hubs. So, so sweet.

I still have sexual dreams with that bike in them.

My memorable bikes were a fixed solid-wheeled bike which was my first, then I had a Raleigh Mag Burner, a couple of girl-style cruisers (internal 3 speed hubs) and then later a Raleigh 10-speed road bike as a youngun, then went to an X-mart MTB when I was around 15 that lasted me through 'til I left the UK and I left it there.

I think by definition, the Raleigh bikes were fairly decent, but I've yet to really have a 'good' bike. If it wasn't for the perma-frame damage, my Centurion would be reasonable but until my IRO is built I'm in klunker-ville.

I still have the first real bike that I ever bought, a 1988 GT Karakoram. Before that, I had a Talisman (a long defunct Canuck brand) that I bought from Broadway cycle up at Bloor/Dufferin. I had a coupon from a Toronto cycling mag that gave me $50 off of the Talisman but the owner wouldn't honour it until I practically screamed bloody murder in front of his store. Heheh, what a bastid.

Here is the GT as it looks now, great snow bike:

My first good bike was a early/mid 90s Giant ATX-780. I still had it until about 3 years ago actually, but I loaned it to a coworker when their bike got stolen. Long story short I haven't seen it since.

Wes, isn't that just the Uncle John that we've already seen a brazillion pictures of? ;)

In the brifter photo? Yes. That wasn't intended to be a teaser shot.. just a Campy + espresso diptych. :)

I got an email this morning from a design agency I'm tag-teaming a website with and the designer is a guy I met this past season through 'cross racing. Small world. :P

dang. sorry to hear op.

the hell is wrong with Canada post! They won't even allow me to send a wheelset to the states because it exceeds their size limitations!?
And purolator wants $130 to ship it.
ah. game over :( I'm pretty sure they just changed their policies and size limitations because I just shipped out an entire bike last summer.

I know they will ship square wheelsize boxes. Is your box unusually deep or something?

No, it has to go through Canada Post. Just like vice-versa. Are you sure you're reading the max dimensions correctly, sr20det? I thought their max sizes were closer to bike box size.
