Also, ouch: http://www.velonews.com/photo/73475

Isn't that Robin Williams in another of his hi-larious costumes?

I notice that Gerdeman finished with a broken femur, does that imply he carried on with... or his ride was done due to? Either way, doh!

Fun ride last night, thanks for coming down Wil - I'd been out since about 6:30 so glad it wasn't called as I didn't see the note ;)

Nice to see you too last night Pyze!

Westbound sucks, darn wind - though I'm going to relish it heading East soon - yay for early finishes on long weekends.

Alleycat check point people!!!! Keith says 7 at La Carrera.
wooohoooo

There is an older Steve Bauer fixie conversion locked up on Queen /leslie outside the retirement home... it's had a back flat for about a week now. I'm afraid for it. Wondering if somebody knows who's it is? Running a front brake, Alex rims, race blade rear fender.

This Friday. Will see you there.

Ditto.. you know me and my argyle obsession! :D I'd be happy with a set of arm or leg warmers as well. If Felt put out production road frame in the Slipstream colours I'd be really tempted. :P

edit: speaking of Slipstream.. congrats, kids (http://www.velonews.com/article/73493/slipstream-chipotle-gets-a-tour-invite-)!

"fixed speed" is funny. I was gonna make some snide comment but then we also say single speed :)

About Polly... There was a post on CL about somebody finding a stolen bike there :(

Yeah but I know for a fact that these new frames are custom ordered by him.

Zombie is going to be his house brand he is planning on selling. Like Lubo at Cyclmania, but better and cheaper Polly claims.

I don't know... He might be well intentioned but he does sell bikes. Buying stolen bikes only encourages more thefts. If I saw a stolen bike I'd call the police. But I guess the police wouldn't come in a split second and engage a pursuit...

so... anybody has scrap MKS pedals? I need to replace the lock nut on one of mine (GR-9) and it's an oddball size.

Just to play devils advocate....if someone looks respectable and wants a fair price ie: not a $1000 bike for $40....how do you know it is stolen? for the amount of stuiff that goes thru there I think 1 bike in 100 is not unreasonable. He isn't Igor and doesn't buy off shady folk. If you buy and sell used, no matter how dilligent you are, it is inevitable you will end up with something that is hot.

If you look around a new frameset wouldn't be much more? Matt? than that. Used..Low End Carbon Fork...doesn't seem worth it. But then again I know what they cost wholesale ;) If you are gonna buy something local, used, consider a road conversion. Its gonna ride very similar to an IRO but chances are the frame will be constructed with some decent quality tubes, whereas the IRO is just generic cr-mo. That crit frame cavit8 posted from Craigslist is a wayyy better deal than a used IRO....and its a crit frame perfect for fixed. Operator can attest to the capability and ride of a good used road frame.

Its cro-manganese. Probably an Asian made frame, 80's era. Its decent quality...the rear wheel has a decent hub...old hot forged Sugino's...I would say take it for a spin and if it fits and looks in good shape ie: no significant crashes...then offer him $300.

cavit8
03-20-08, 10:27 PM
Yeah, I thought you needed something smaller than a 58cm too. Mid 50's?

As c-mech said, don't go over $300. For about $130 rear wheel added to what is otherwise an okay frame, probably a POS stock front wheel and an old road double crank I wouldn't pay that much, However, I tend to like to build stuff up and it may be worth it to you not to do that. $300 maybe okay but I wouldnt' go higher. Note that you'll have to add a front brake unless you plan on joining the brakeless brotherhood off the bat.

This Miele is kinda pricey but it is in great shape, it is pink and it might fit you. It is hard to tell from the photos but the head-tube looks on the small side, email the seller and see what size the frame is (or how tall the owner is). You can convert it fairly easily and it is one of the higher-end Miele frames (Columbus tubing, braze-on front derailleur, lugged, etc).

anyone up for a ride this morning?

I'm at home this morning with Carson. Out to Toronto General in the Pm for a while if anyone is out and about in that area and wants to grab coffee.

Any shops open today, need to get my threadless headset looked at.

Keith, I'm free tonight to lend a hand if needed.

Totally! I've done a few Miele conversions and the owners have always been really happy with them. The dropouts are usually a little on the short side but it's nothing that I haven't been able to solve with a half link thrown into the mix. If you were to buy this bike all you'd need is a fixed wheel and probably a new chainring up front (130bcd, likely), some shorter chainring bolts and you're off to the races!

Having just a couple days ago gone through our own replace-the-water-heater nightmare, which will involve some more follow up with direct energy's VP office, I feel for you brother. See some of you this evening...anyone riding out from the East? I guess I should stop by the office and grab my lock. I'll be bringin' some extra cold gear just in case I end up standing around at the end of a pier somewhere. :)

kylehutton - which one of the group were you? I was the only one of the crowd on a geared bike and had the garish hi-vis vest on.

I already rode across town today after bottling the ride home last night due to wind + being overly "safe" late last night :) I've ramped up 100 miles on this Gardin since Sunday already, yay for base miles.

I'm going to be employed in Whitby soon, so I'll be riding out at least twice a week which should give me some good training miles (I think it's 100km out and back) - thankfully the rise in wages means I can get a GO pass to bail me out. I was thinking ride to some go station on the way as a way to cope with the distance for all 5 days of the week. I've never ridden over 300k in 3 days before, so I'm sure it'll be a shock to the system, just got to step in lightly and break myself in.

Sounds like fun tonight, have fun guys - I'm taking my wee one to our first lacrosse game (Go ROCK!), woo.

PS, anyone interested in riding to Niagara Falls fixed this year?

I might be up for the niagara ride, pending availability. :)

Whitby is a nice ride once you get to the rouge. The stretch between the beaches and the rouge kinda sucks though.

I think you'd be OK on the go train, but depending on your hours you might have a hard time squeezing on with all the commuters with a bike.

Sweet Brad/oper... Do you have a date in mind operator? I'd need to ensure a non-daughter weekend is all. I'll be doing the Hairshirt TNT ride, but that'll be on my road bike. I was thinking ride there, camp out (cheap and fun), ride back the next day for the fixed venture.

Good call re: bike/train - my new job has flexible hours, so I was thinking of getting the train up at ~9:30 to coincide with the end of the rush hour restriction - they have a similar time restriction to the TTC. I've ridden to Ajax before, but not further east - I'd probably take Kingston Rd/Hwy2 all the way pretty much from the east end here. If I rode, I'd have to leave at 7 to be in the area for 9, which isn't so bad - just I don't think I can physically handle all that every day yet :p

50x11 or 34x22. I'm undecided.

Yeah. As soon as we're hitting 20 -25 highs i'm going to do it (no idea when that's going). The last time I rode to niagara was in late september. Do you already have a route? I went lakeshore -> N service road which was mucho boring-o. I'm going to run 42x15 with a bailout 16 on the flop side.

P.S I take the go train nearly daily for the homeward trip. Comfortable and fast. I hear conflicting re: very bad reports of service on the Lakeshore go line.
