Phoo, back from my Golden Horseshoe tour! A few notes:
Weston Road around King City is ******** hilly.
Georgian Bay = pretty!
Highway 26 between Collingwood and Thornbury is the fastest 22 km ev-ar.
Don't overlap wheels and hit your head on the ground. 'Tis bad.
15th Sideroad is the funnest (thanks sr20det).
Actually, the 6th Concession Line is the funnest. I don't think I've ever gone that fast on a loaded bike.
Aaaand break! Heal up, Chris! Go team vigilante! Go team everyone! Sorry for missing your barfday, Mark!

I didn't know what this event was about so here's the info (from Martino's Bike Lane Diary blog):
Ride of Silence
The Sixth annual ride of silence will commence May 21st 2008. The starting point will be the south east corner of Spadina and Bloor. The ride is to commemorate the deaths of cyclists around the world. The ride will leave at 7:00 pm and proceed at a yet to be determined route throughout the city in silence. **** i hate riding in toronto sometimes
i was riding pretty hard on the way across today (late for work)
and on college, just east of spadina there is a cop car parked in the bike lane in front of bk
so i'm planning how i'm going to get around it with traffic
AND THENthis car goes from the middle lane (in the middle of the intersection) to the curb right at the crosswalk, cuts me off and stops behind the cop car
the cops dont say a ****ing thing to the guy
the girl that this car was picking up says "sorry" when i just say jesus as i'm riding byif i didnt lay on the brake and do a skid at the same time i would have went through the guys back ****ing window and the cops dont say a word standing right there.
and then the same car pulls a right hook (and misses me by about 10 feet as i again slam on the brakes) at Beverley. the guy had a "baby on board" sign, and a < 2 year old in the car.
"GET ON THE SIDEWALK WHERE YOU BELONG!"

Hey, if anyone in the west end needs some generic parts for free, a guy on Pearson Avenue (between Sorauren and Roncesvalles) has chucked out a massive pile of frames, forks, rims, cranks, pedals, etc., for garbage night. I just rode by and it is about 10 bikes, torn down into pieces and piled up, it is kinda weird actually. I've seen him put out other stuff in the past too, I guess he finds old frames and then dismantles them....and throws them out.

....
last week on the way home from sprints 4 guys in their moms bmw followed me for a few minutes yelling gems such as "get off the ****ing road" ... meanwhile it was 2 lanes and the lane beside me was empty ... then when they finally passed the guy in the back seat passenger side tried to grab me ... not impressed
my last 2 experiences taking yonge street home have been bad, so i think that is out for awhile

So forget about my posting above about the guy throwing out all sorts of bike parts. I went back to see if I could find some pedals and the entire pile was being loaded onto a pickup truck and it didn't look like they wanted to share. Oh well.
Bah... just noticed the crappy forecast for rain tomorrow... looks like another canceled DSR night. BAH I say...

What exactly is DSR? Everybody just says 'DSR ride'. Is it a club or something?

DSR = Devil Strip Rollers. DrBenway came up with the name last year when he and Will started running the sprints. We liked the name and the website is really handy for using as an umbrella for all sortsa bike related stuff. So far we have the DSR Group Rides, DSR Dirt Edition MTB nights in the Don, and the DSR Go Fast Go Straight (or something like that).
Think of it as the Kiss Army without the makeup or heels or bondage apparel... ok on second thought it's nothing like the Kiss Army ;-P

It *was* fun!
Thursday: Toronto --> Barrie
Friday: Barrie --> Thornbury
Saturday and Sunday --> cottagey shenanigans/waiting out the cold and rain
Monday: Thornbury --> Waterloo
Tuesday: Waterloo --> Oakville
We took the Go Train back to Toronto from Oakville to keep all the fun without all the Mississauga.

HA, I separated my shoulder and made a peanut butter sandwich the same night. None of this next day crap. Take that wussy tour rider.
I did actually ride out of Don and up Pottery with the separated shoulder. Not sure if that was too smart.

how's that shoulder feeling now? how else could you get out of the don if you didn't ride?

Long slow walk. I rode out as I was afraid the hobos would be enticed by my tight buns and sweet face.
Shoulder feels good, hope to be able to start riding early next week, have the Heart and Stroke ride on the 1st I need to be ready for. Might have to do the 75k ride geared this year.

"The TORBA Umbra Launch Party happens Thursday May 22nd, 6 pm, at Umbra's Concept Store located at 165 John Street, just north of Queen St. West, in downtown Toronto. Join for a fun evening of cocktails, trials demos in the store, live music, and meet the staff and community of Umbra, our founding sponsor."
The official launch of the new Loblaws trailhead is also this Saturday. I'm probably going to head down. There's going to be a trail building workshop and a Kona demo tent as well.

Dave Zabriskie crashed and broke his L1 vertebrae in the Giro the other day too.. :( Poor guy seems to mess himself up every time he has a good start at a grand tour.

Toronto traffic is new perfect compared to Milano traffic.
Rules here, see gap, take gap. Speed limit, just a start. Parking all taken? start double parking.
its crazy... like really really ****ing crazy. i saw 4 cars fit through a gap barely big enough for the 3 of them... guess what the result was, think comic
yup they all got stuck, had to get the toes trucks pull them out, they were so stuck they couldn't climb out the windows... oh man it was funny
Right near where im staying there is a R1 (motorbike) that was dropped, its a shame, such a nice blue.

Back from Ottawa... woo. Highway 37 upto Hwy 7 has some beautiful scenery to ride through, really changed my opinion of "old rolling hills boring farmland" Ontario (no I didn't ride this time, I was on the Greyhound :) - 4.5 days without being on a bike is very weird)
Thanks Jeremy for that early pickup, if you've anything still left let me know...
Hope you're all good for the 1st, Pyze - heal up!
Decided to ride at lunch to find a flat, wtf methinks - was fine this morning, I shall have to closely inspect the rim, boo-urns for pre-hometime flat :(
I'm trying to aim for the memorial ride tonight, I've got to fix a flat, 33 miles to cover and a post office to visit beforehand though :p

Craftsman 15mm stubby to fit in the seat bag - $2.99 ordered from sears.ca.
Planet bike "Peace Pump" mini-pump - $8.50 surprise find @MEC -- not something I would use daily, but only 74g when tossed in my bag, and looks like it'll do the trick in an emergency.

I'll check and see if we have one at the shop. MSRP is $120.00 and hopefully someone has one in stock locally - the main supplier of Brooks stuff is out of stock of a lot of Brooks stuff right now, Flyers being one of the items.
