So I rode the Lesley Spit today...Funny I've lived in Toronto for years, and in the area most of my life...and I have never been out there...pretty cool! The only problem was that I had a bad case of "gotta go potty"... Lemme tell ya, the ride back to Tim Horton's at Lakeshore was torture, especially the speed bumps! OOOH!

Bumped into Gokiburi before the ride too. Good seeing ya! We're practically neighbours!

Anyways, hope you guys have a great weekend. I'm heading out of town tomorrow, so I will talk to you guys later!

Hey guys....haven't heard from anyone this week...how's everyone doing? I think I may be heading to London this weekend to check out the new velodrome...I'm catching a ride with a buddy on Saturday if our bikes come in (donating a couple to the velodrome).

I will be off this weekend, will be doing the "Donut ride" Saturday and Sunday come join us on Sunday.
Rob, I read in some of your post that you ride withTBN, Tourist-Sportif Group, that ride is comparable to the "Donut ride" so join us. will be passing Steels/Yonge around 9:15a.m. to about 9:20 a.m. after we took off from Laird/Eglinton at 9:00 a.m.

Hey Toronto fellas,

Sorry to crash the party... I was in Toronto a few weeks ago on tour and, while unpacking at a friend's house, saw a guy coming out of the house across the street with a sweet black and chrome Marinoni pista (one of the new TIG'ed ones)... I think it might've had red decals? In any case, it was a beautiful bike. He sped off before I could ask him about it, but I figured that it was probably one of you guys or at least someone that you guys know. If it was one of y'all, sweet bike.

Your talk of bun rides makes me jealous.

been there and done that today (Kim Moon bakery that is)..... yumm.

as for the marinoni track bike? who knows, I've seen hundreds upon hundreds of fixed gear bikes in toronto but only 15 or less fixed riders that post here (I'm not saying that this forum is suppose to be some central hub for people who ride fixed). But I'm quite sure that we DON'T have the same 'united' fixed or single speed community that some big cities in the US seem to have. But they are around.... lots of them.

Speaking of which; going home over the Bloor/Danforth bridge last friday I guess it was, I saw a dude hauling ass on one of those BikeFriday folding bikes converted to fixed gear. A really tidy bike, skinny 20" wheels with a huge overloaded mess bag on his back. Seen a couple on the FGG but didn't think they were that common.......it was neat.

I had been expecting to see a lot of fixed gear bikes but only crossed paths with two: that beautiful marinoni and then somebdy riding something brakeless who probably shouldn't have been and (as a result) almost hit our van on Richmond.

I only personally know of 2 Marinoni Track Riders in the city (both Bright Orange)...that being said...I know La Bicicletta sells Marinoni Track...So if its a new one...That could be where it came from.

I know a few fixie riders in the city...and see quite a few every day

I think I'm MTB camping this weekend though if it doesn't rain, I'll have to do it another weekend

Hey I am getting some Jerseys done...too bad I didn't put pork buns on them!!

The donut ride is pretty fast...the guys who lead it are fairly serious and look down on slow riders and those who aren't used to group rides in tight quarters (mainly cause many of them tend to be a little dangerous)...I've only done it a couple times...but its been so long...that I consider myself a virgin again :)

When I did do it, it was on a road bike...not sure how our Fixies will fare...I won't do it unless I put a brake back on...not safe with that many riders otherwise.

The lead group is pretty aggressive, and the a$$hole-Lance-wannabe factor is high. I think if you stayed nearer to the back it would be fine. Plus, if there are a few of us together, there is strength in numbers:) I'll do it fixed-with some backup.

Tonight starts at the bridgepoint health center. It's at Broadview & Gerrard, just slightly north of gerrard on Broadview, west side by the drinking fountain. It's a little obscure, the TBN generally have pretty vague descriptions for start points. Planning to put in around 80-90k today, short tomorrow then hammerfest Sunday.

P.S Why on earth is it always rainy on Saturday grr!
PPS I like Shiznazs suggestion.

Better yet why don't you just stay home. Fixies are neither wanted nor safe on this ride. When you want to play with the big boys bring a real bike and leave your pork buns at home.

Sounds like ewitz, HELLO MODS. Can we get a perm ban please?
CM at spadina Bloor at 7? Do people get arrested/ticketed for no reason? Because there's plenty of reason to ticket me. No reflectors, bells, lights etc.

Hmmmmmm...thats odd...I KNOW of at least 3 guys who have and do the Donut on fixed gear bikes. I don't know who this clown is but he is definately representative of the "fast" people who do the ride. Don't worry about him. Stay off the back with like minded riders...read friendly/social...and you will be fine.

I'm moving to Toronto in about two years. I'm up there about every other month, not aways with my bike though.

no, I don't have the wheels yet, but last I heard Keith had them laced and just needed to do the tensioning and tieing/soldering. Hopefully they are in the mail, but keith would know better than I do!

Jen you should let us know when you're heading to town in the meantime, especially if you're going to have your bike with ya. There's always rides available this time of year and there's usually folks ready and willing for a nice ride!

So we're heading to The Velodrome in London this morning! I am really excited. Hopefully we're able to do the Tracking Racing Clinic and get some laps on the track! Keith assures me that its not as intimidating as it looks once you're out there and taken some instruction....so we'll see! My wife is coming and bringing the camera, so I will posts some pics when we get back!

Seeya guys!

I was thinking about coming up in august with my bike. Especially if I go to the michigan symposeum thing. My fiance lives in Toronto, but doesn't ride so when I have my bike with me and he's at work I'm always looking for things to do.

I looked at the drome pictures last time, that looked hella steep on the bankings.

OUCH! That's what it feels like when you crash on those hella steep banked corners :)
Other than one little mishap it was a great day! Rob Good, the guy who runs the whole place put on a great "How to race clinic" and within about 15minutes we were racing on the track....

Its amazing how quick you can fly through those corners! Its a LOT of fun!! Heather took some pictures and I will post them once she lets me touch her camera :)

Don't forget...Ride for Heart is Sunday! I may be a little groggy...some old friends are coming to town Saturday night and are taking me to the Erasure concert...so they will get to sleep in at my place while I drag my sorry but out the door at 630am!

Oh by the way...Im not sure if you heard. But last Saturday when Keith and I were at the Velodrome, we bought some tickets for a draw they were having later that night.

The winning ticket would win a Custom Steel Track bike from Winterborne Cycles. Winterborne is a kick a$$ custom shop in Guelph. If you were at the Bike show you may have seen them. They had a little booth, and a black track frame on display.

Anyways...Keith won...He's been difficult to talk to since...Here's an example of a converstion, paraphrased of course.

Rob - "Hey Keith"
Keith - "Drool"
Rob -"Still thinking about your new bike?"
Keith - "Drool"
Rob - "So how are ya doing?"
Keith "I wonder what colour I should get?"
Rob - "Huh?"
Keith -"Drool"

Needless to say, he's excited...and rightfully so....This is gonna be one amazing bike!
