so i'm flipping through now and come across a full page spread of the upcoming tool (????!?!?!?!?) concert. tickets are on sale at 10am friday it says...... **** THAT'S TODAY. and of course it's sold out. $66.66 all seats. but no general admission. and it's at the hummingbird centre. you know you're getting old when you're playing at the hummingbird centre.
back to relevant bike discussions.

Bjork did a show there ... amaaazing.
Marilyn Manson did a show there as well ... seems to be a nice venue that caters to all sorts.

As far as the Tool show is concerned, if this was back just after the release of Aenima I would be ****ting myself to get a pair of tickets. Unfortunately, 10,000 Days has pretty much solidified them in my mind as nothing more than "stoner metal." Maybe if they agreed to not play any new crap. ;)

Yeah man, keep up.

Jet. No idea on pricing. I'll be there helping price stuff. The stuff I'm taking will vary from dirt cheap to reasonable. I'm debating taking a set of double straps, but they will be priced for poseurs. :D

Hrm ... tricky.

CBN Bike Swap is open to buyers at 10am ... and I have to be at work at 10:30am. That gives me about 15 minutes to browse and pay before humping my ass over to Queen and Pape. Cavit8, how strictly do you think that 10am starting time will be enforced?

The one thing i would expect to get at the CBN thing is WET (hope not) waiting to get in. last time i went guess i got there late cause when i walked through, there was not much there (left).
I hope to hit there early as long as cats & dogs are not landing on me anything less than that i'm there.

If this is in the parking lot or whatever, I take it I can just walk my bike along w/ me as I power shop?

Hrm ... maybe I should show up early and drop some beaters off to sell.

Its interesting to watch you guys talk..

so far I learned that..

1) You all like bikes. All kinds of bikes, which is good.

2) Your the least poser-ish of the pile of people on here. None of you seem to care wheter something might be construed as cool or uncool.

3) You like to drink and eat alot. Drinking ill pass on, eating hmm perhaps Ill join you at some point.

4) New words ilke cagers? what is a cager? Sounds like someone in a car. or motor vehicle

5) You like the word ******. May I suggest other off shoots of the word.
******mania, Dr of ******-ology, ****** aholic, ******-centric, double******, etc etc...

6) You like deals.. I dont know if any of you guys are catchng some of the sales im posting. Im trying to locate some fixie stuff at a good price, as well as a deal on tires.

In any case thanks for reminding me why I am still here in toronto.....

ciao for now

I don't think I'm going to brave the wet weather for the swap this morning. Good luck guys!

ps. I'm still on a messenger backpack hunt. If anyone spots a chrome or reload pack, let me know. I've checked out the Ortleib, and while they seem solid, they aren't really what I want. I need more pockets to organize all my crap. :)

Speaking of reload, has anyone ever seen any reload stuff in the city? I don't recall ever seeing anything -- either in a store, or on a person.

eyefloater
04-22-06, 07:43 AM
I think Curbside up on Bloor sells Chrome stuff ... nothing's ringing any bells though for RELoad gear.

Just (win the lottery and) spring for a PAC w/ the X-Strap option. Broke-ass ... double****** chump. ;)

Its time for expand your vocabulary:
Todays word is DRAFTQUEEN: Name given to those that choose to ride behind you in a long ride, then zip out in front of you in the last few clicks.

Good use of the word double****** eyefloater

Try using "****** in training" in a phrase

Shinaz: Its definitely raining. I think I will go check out the sale, if I can swing it with my schedule. Ill be in a long blue leather trenchcoat, and black cocotte courier bag with zoom media on it. Wonder if anyone is donating a c 40.

Thats reminds me of another new word. ******-40, slang for colnago c 40.

EXPAND YOUR VOCABULARY
Few phrases
5 easy ******s : kind of like 5 easy pieces the clint eastwood movie. Could refer to something easy to do, or a bunch of easy to do things.

******ball in the side pocket: You can say this when you make a good score like a c-40 for $20 or a vintage track frame for $10. You cant say this in front of the seller though, but you can say it under your breath or later as you are walking away. Or you later when you can tell your friends you can say " ya he wanted $50. I offered him $20.. ya it was great man totally a ******ball in the sidepocket.

******mobile: This would be a word to describe a vehicle of someone you have strong dislike for ie .. here comes johnny riding his ******mobile. Or that bike is a real ****** mobile. Not to be confused with the batmobile... actually on that note

Batmobile: You could say this when you really like someones bike, example Hey man your bike is tricked out like the batmobile, or man your bike is a real batmobile. Can not be used a durogatory term.

Jokermobile: You can use this to describe a bike so funny looking just the site of it makes you spit your drink out from laughter. Example "hey man I saw a real jokermobile at the bikeswap on sunday.

Re the sale

Maybe we need to run some block and intercept. Im prepared to tackle old dudes for shiny campy trinkets, n.o.s. this old dude...

I went to one mec sale.. pretty hurting it was. Not sure if that was my timing or, some act of god. Stuff had cobwebs on it. Few old hurting ******mobile tandems, and other such jokermobiles. Not a batmobile in sight.. "pout".

Am I a DQ if I do it to a TTC bus?

paul_in_toronto
04-22-06, 10:29 AM
Drafting a bus doesnt count so dont worry about that.

Im going to come with name for those.. road whales or.. something.

Double red monty: Ok this is when you are at the light. Its red for you, and on your left and right you have streetcars stopped and loading. You can scoot through the light quickly.

Fooling officer tom: Ok this I only did once. I never heard of anyone else do it. I was going down the street wrong way down a one way. The officer points this out to me, I say ill ride on the sidewalk then. He smiles and says ok no problem.. uh someone needs to reread the law book.

not sure yet but the seller says he only charges actual shipping costs (ie. no $30
packing fee" or whatever).

Souds lke one of the good guys then. When I rediscovered Action figures I went nuts buying stuff off of ebay as faraway as australia (transformer toy still original packaging). One guy from the states however screwed me. He stuck the items in a huge box, it could have fit a box 1/4 the size.

In any case. I had a few tricks when getting stuff from the states, not everyone wants to play ball though.
If you can get them to write GIFT no value on the package, or value $15 as I believe anything under $20 is free of handling fee and tax. It can also be a sample, it can also be a warranty item. Any of these are clear of taxes and handling fees.

As for taking care of your frame. Aluminum foil shiny side is good for removing some rust. A bit of linseed oil poured inside your frame and sloshed around helps protect the tubes.

if tomorrow's weather is like today's, i'm going to skip my usual long ride in favour of attending the swap. if anyone else is interested in meeting for coffee first, holla.

I'd be up for that. Let me know when/where. I'd be up for going for a shorter ride or laps someplace before or after the swap as well.

ps. free coffee at Starbucks today if you bring your own cup (for Earth Day).

Starbucks is evil - queue the greenpeace *****s.
Do you guys want to meet up before the swap meet starts? How about 10 at Moon Bean? (Note i'm going to be GTA passing it if it's wet or rainy).

Perhaps, but it's still decent quality free coffee. I'm also an espresso ***** and they're the only chain coffee place that can (on average) pull a proper cup I find. Given the choice between a chain and an indie shop that does espresso, the choice will always be the indie (unless I've had a bad shot there :P). I haven't found anywhere else within a couple blocks of my house that is consistent.

Also, yes, before the swap. I'm fairly certain it's going to be rainy though, but that's not going to stop me. I feel the need to stretch my legs. I'm not even *that* interested in the swap, I just want to get out on the bike for a bit.
