Teen dragged 600 metres can't recall his ordeal

Hamilton police receive 60 tips on hit and run

Hamilton–Up to 60 tips have poured in to police investigating the horrific case of a teen dragged under a car for more than half a kilometre.

Nick Perkins, 17, was hit by a car while cycling home with a friend on July 3. After hitting him, the car's occupants got out of the vehicle, stole a backpack from his friend and drove off again with the teen stuck in the car's undercarriage.

Perkins was dragged 600 metres, burning away skin and bone on his back, hip and head, until he was dislodged.

This week, he was brought out of a coma that had been medically induced to spare him excruciating pain from his injuries.

Yesterday, at a fundraiser barbecue for the teen, his mother and stepdad George McGee said Nick has no memory of events.

"He remembers absolutely nothing," McGee said. "He said he doesn't even remember going out that night. We're hoping something will come back."

Nickie Perkins said her son needs more surgery. "Some of the grafts did not take on his back and buttocks, and he is going in for more surgery (today) that will take two or three hours. They are taking skin from the good parts of his back to put on the bad parts of his back."

Lead investigator, Hamilton police Det. Rob Mayea, said detectives have received 50 to 60 tips and are struggling to prioritize them. "Unfortunately, the tips are all over the map," he said. Police have seized three vehicles, but all have turned out "not to have damage consistent with Nick's injuries," Mayea said.

Missing Hot Water Music but I've seen them a few times so I'll deal with it...
Missing the Chuck Ragan solo show? Huge bummer!

My boy Robbie saw him last year in the UK and said that it might have been the best live show he'd ever seen and this is a guy who has seen a LOT of shows... Sound academy or not, you all should go and go early.

I think I know who posted that add and he's definitely what you would consider a "hipster" so I think he doesn't realize it comes accross as condescending. He probably sees it as being self-deprecating. Oh and I should add he's a nice guy (assuming it is who I think it is), overcharging-for-that-bike-notwithstanding.

hamilton is the devil's armpit.

And they took time to stop, steal his friend's backpack and continued driving with the guy underneath. I can't believe that.

Actually a guy who works with my friend was on the subway yesterday at Sheppard station. His train was evacuated because a guy got stuck between the platform and the train from the waste down. He said there was blood all over the platform. I don't know what happened. Might have been an attempted suicide since it never made the news. Disturbing/sickening nonetheless.

canice
07-25-08, 10:58 AM
i heard a story from someone, they were on a train and a guy jumped, he also got stuck from the waist down. he was totally conscious and couldn't feel anything, but when the fire dept. inflated those balloons to force the train away from the platform to pull him out, he bled to death.

jumpers make me queasy.

Danhalen
07-25-08, 11:06 AM
God that is horrific. Actually I was wondering what they would do to get someone out of there. Huge balloons huh?

You were there? Didn't see you in the mosh pit brah!:twitchy: That is great you got a tic. Went to both shows, similar set, but the crowd last night wasn't the same straight backed, chin stroking, typical Toronto crowd. Hip shaking extravaganza. Even got my hat and sweater stolen! now that was a good show.

I ended up ordering Kool stop replacement campy pads from ebay for anyone who cares. Urbane didn't have any of the victory vintage.

ADVICE REQUEST PLEASE!

Is there any bar/resto in the city for a non-cable-enabled person to watch the TDF (time trials are my favorite) - you know like they do when men kick that sphere around?

Thanks!

maybe Scallywags , they specialize in International Sports Broadcasts http://www.scallywags.net/schedule.php

but they mostly show soccer only (and usually a zoo if a popular game is on plus the food is terrible), but they don't always list everything they can(could?) broadcast on their website. I watched the Pairs F1 Grand Prix in there at 4 in the morning once..

i watched the last stage at jet fuel last year. it was playing on a tiny imac wedged up by the ceiling. it hurt my neck, and the digital feed cut out a lot, including a portion of the final sprint. it sucked, but at least the coffee was good.

for some flukey reason i now get OLN in a slightly staticky state even though i only get channels 2-28, so i'll be watching at home this year. bless jah and coppi, they're looking out for me.

wtf!? i was told the next viewing was on monday. do you know how long it's open for today? is it still 9 hanna? i heard it moved

It's at 35 Strachan. I was there today. There is also an "unknown pile" in case your bike was logo-less.

Saw a few happy people getting their rides back and some sad bikes who'll likely never see their owners again :(

thanks for the update, I was going to head to hanna again. It would be nice if after a while they would set all the unloved unclaimed bikes free, and let us knife-fight over the best frames and parts for project bikes.

chaotic, yes. effective? definitely. fun? inevitably.

sooooooooooooo... i went. once again no bikes for me. i did see a few people reunited with there rides and it was nice. i saw a couple bikes still in boxes!!!! brand new. and in the wheel section i saw a pair of wheelchair wheels!! wtf?! who steals wheelchair wheels? i was chatting with one of the cops when a guy walked over to us and basically started ranting at the cop about how they should be ashamed for the amount of time it took to arrest igor and then the converatioin quickly digressed into a story about how his son was robbed by 5 "nig*ers". seriously. i can't believe people like that exist. before the jackass entered the conversation the cop told me that someone had gotten their bike back that was stolen in 1987!!!!! amazing.
