Skiddings only purpose is for trix.

No actually....skidding is useful to position your crank orientation when riding in close quarter traffic. If you want to make 2 quick 90 degree turns....like when you need to get around stopped traffic....skidding/skipping is invaluable. Try hammering thru downtown traffic on a tight wheelbase track bike without skidding/skipping. You wont get anywhere very quickly. But once again I bow to your superior fixed gear wisdom and intellect.

Yep, I have a TRP carbon cross lever for OS bars. I'm using the left side of the pair, and you can have the right one if you like. It takes a standard cable, but to properly seat the swaged cable end, you will need to enlarge the hole that the swage fits into very slightly. I don't have any spare brakes, I'm afraid, except for a rear Record.

oh i like that. just the right amount of bling. i hope the part you have to carve out is plastic, not carbon (googled picture confirms that it probably is, just want to be sure). how much?

The clamp section is actually aluminum, as is the part you may need to work (don't worry, it's quite easy, and very little needs to be done. You could also remove a small amount of material from the cable swage, but that's not the preferred way of getting it to fit. It has a reach adjustment on it too that works quite well. How does $0.00 sound?

Just checking before I go and use it, I'm switching out the cog on my MASI and wanted to make sure Blue Loc-Tite was ok to use. No problems with Blue Loc-Tite yes?

^^Really nice!

So the postman brought me some NOS Campy Omega V hard anodized rims today. Would it be considered heresy to build a Nagasawa with full Campy components? Or should I build these rims up separately on Campy hubs for my Wilier, and build the Nagasawa with full DA?

i'd go full DA with the Naga!

that purple geekhouse is wicked. i love those chunky forks, especially in chrome.

what are the chances that anyone here is an NFL geek? i have 4 tickets to the Buffalo Bills game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this thursday at the rogers centre. face value for each ticket is $175, but i am open to a VERY BROAD RANGE of offers. these are great seats with a full view of the field and the jumbotron: Section 525, Row 5, seats right by the aisle!

game is thursday, august 14, gates open at 5:30, kickoff at 7:30. if you are interested we can take cash or trade. email me at: aaronu///gmail

end of shilling.

i'm a huge NFL geek and i would have taken you up on that offer, but i managed to let myself get sucked into some dinner party with some friends.. anyone feel like filling in for me? all you need to do is sit there and look pretty and shovel insane amounts of food in yr mouth, drink beer, and make occasional crude remarks/jokes.

ps. wasn't there someone looking to rent a tandem bike in the city?

DA it is. I got a great deal on a new DA crankset today from Mike Barry, so now I just need hubs and a BB. I'm thinking of taking the Campy stickers off the rims I got today, and just leaving the Omega V ones on, and lacing them to some DA hubs. They are tubulars, mind you. I don't mind riding tubulars on the street, but since I literally haven't had a flat on a bike since 1977 (making an appropriate sacrifice to the flat Gods right now), I'm not sure if I want to tempt fate with them.

Actually, I've been married for the last 4 yrs to a considerably younger lady, so I no longer need Usenet.:D

no real need (or time for anything other than work for that matter) for them right now i was just thinking about it for some reason. i have a flat bar like the one you speak of - got it from keith a while ago. think it's actually a cut down cruiser bar.

I don't have any grease and when I went to the hardware store they had no idea what I meant by "grease", so I thought loc-tite was alright. If anyone knows a cheap place for grease and if grease would be better, I'd rather do it right than jury rig it. I just didn't know what type of grease to get and thought loc-tite was equivalent.

I usually grab whichever is closer: a tube of lithium grease or phils bearing grease.

If anyone knows a cheap place for grease and if grease would be better, I'd rather do it right than jury rig it. I just didn't know what type of grease to get and thought loc-tite was equivalent.

loc-tite is a thread locker, the grease prevents seizing

but yeah those guys are right, you shouldn't need loc-tite ... if you're having problems with your hub you might need it, but in most cases you don't

you can get phil wood grease at MEC, i think it's at least $4 cheaper there than most places

i agree - always handy to have a tube of phil grease around. it seems to last forever, i think the last one i bought was 3-4 years ago...

Awesome, thanks guys. Realizing what the grease is for (preventing the threads from seizing) totally changes things. I assumed it had something to do with it rattling loose on the threads, now I get it. I've got tubs of white lithium grease sitting around, although I'll go ahead and buy proper bike grease.

Totally stupid question I'm sure, but stepping up a notch is going to move my wheel up in the track end, to the point that I doubt I'll be able to just slide the hub forward and pop the chain on and off the chainring. With a derailleur system I've just hooked the chain on one of the teeth and pedalled the chain onto the chainring, can you do that on a singlespeed/fixed that doesn't have a chain tensioner?

Has anybody ever sold a bike they'd registered with the coppers, and had to switch the registration over to the new owner's name? How'd you do it? Any insight would be appreciated.

You call them up, tell them your name is Igor and you have a bike or two that you need to switch the registration for. I'm sure they'll be happy to help. :)

So how did this work? I need to change the contact information for my registration.

They just patched me through to the closest station, and the guy said he could just change the info for me. I didn't have the buyer's full info though, so I didn't go through with it (yet) and can't confirm that it's as easy as he made it seem.
