I can't wait for the weekend!
Hey, guys. Would you mind answering a quick question for me? Which online Canadian bike shop is best for fixed/track stuff? Thanks in advance.
Woohoo cross border shopping!
There's very little in Canada for full on online shops. You'll find some shops have online stores, but that's about it. For those that carry track here's some:
http://www.labicicletta.com
http://www.brauns.com
http://thebikeshop.com/
The first two have higher end track stuff. The third is one I came across recently, and their prices don't exactly excite me.
If I'm shopping online, I generally order from the probikekit.com, which doesn't help you. Chances are slim that you'll be able to capitalize on the lower Canadian dollar for your track purchases.

does anybody know of a handlebar similar to the cinelli priest bars?

I really want the priest bars but the only place i can find them is on ebay and they end up costing close to $200 after shipping. I was also thinking of these (http://www.velo-orange.com/vomoha.html) but they're sold out. any ideas?

Try Jitensha or Rivendell.

West end bike improvement suggestions are being taken until Nov. 5th:

Hard to resist scribbling every major grid, but I'll submit something I guess.
Oh, and also: poop to the wind and all of it's hellishness (gladly I was in Whitby today, heading north was bad enough for a couple of blocks let alone having to go to Steeles as per the last few weeks). I wussed it and trained it all the way to Exhibition station tonight.

i know, those bars are awesome - i've wanted a pair for a long time....2nd on the jitensa studio bars, or check out some of the nitto city bars - they have one with more of an angle - they shoot straight back from the bend but they have a nice shape and a good looking satin finish. isn't the story on those priest bars something to the effect that they were designed for pope john paul after he was given a road bike by one of the italian builders (masi? colnago?) then he sent it back asking for a more upright riding position? hense the name. true story...

yeah, supposedly in 1979 Ernesto Colnago made Pope John Paul II a bike and he asked for a more neutral riding position so this is what cinelli came up with. but as soon as you throw the letters NOS on something it turns into gold.:notamused:

Hey, has anyone got feedback on using leather hunting gloves for riding in the winter? I'm asking because its the wind, not cold, which kills my hands. Any thoughts?
Also, been thinking about which would be better: clipless + winter cycling shoes / booties OR power grips + day hiking boots?

I bought some gloves at MEC with this in mind, wind-stopping, and I got these ones, the Traverse gloves. They are $21 and what I like about them is that they have a good grip area and that they are long so that my wrists are not exposed. They have a draw-string too so they can be cinched up easy.

I have bad circulation on my hands and they get cold FAST. I got some of those reusable chemical hand warmers (here (http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp;jsessionid=yntRJLGCqKpSrY8GBQkyXh1Q0pCdv2wz1183b9PN41pVW1fvw22Z%21-1758186810?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302696025&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442620347&bmLocale=en&bmUID=1225295394922) or here (http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=1&cat=2,40725,45454&p=52295)).
Tried one this morning (other was defective, but then I could compare with/without). Can't say it made much difference, but it wasn't super cold...

I saw those at MEC too but they didn't seem very good for movement, I couldn't grip things as tight when I was trying them on. But I have big hammy paws for hands so that might be part of it too.
I'm going to be trying out a pair of these from Canadian Tire

Today I used my Gordini gloves, which I think are from MEC. They're regular ski gloves basically - very warm but useless for trying to use fingers/any kind of dexterity. For slightly warmer temps, I wear a pair of those really small/tight wool gloves (cheapo things you see at Canadian Tire, etc.) and wear them under either my neoprene diving gloves (if it's raining or cooler) or some crap leather driving gloves. The wool helps my fingertips keep warm under the windchilled leather.
The ski gloves are pretty well overkill until it gets a bit further below 0, but I've worn my wool gloves into fingerless on most digits, so I need to replace - and this wind is cold in just those leather gloves :)

omg keith as lil jon just screams photoshop mashup!!
anyways, i was just at MEC yesterday to look at gloves and what they got for cycling isn't all that hot.. i mean, kinda exp and don't look/feel all that warm. there was a pair of what felt like neoprene's that i thought would be ok, but the palms aren't padded and i think the wind would rip em after a while.
http://images.mec.ca/media/Images/Products/CyclingClothing/5017325_v1_m56577569830741091.jpg
^^ not what i thought would hold up to winter..
i went to the upstairs section and got a pair of other thin, but a little more robust nylon (claimed windproof) fingers/knuckles and the palms are padded with another textured cloth. i think they are for cross country skiiing..
they fit ok.. will see how they last for the donut run on sunday..
hmm they dont' seem to be listed on MEC's site, but they are thin lined and $29.

i have a pair of descent gloves and they are very uncomfortable
i think they tend to make the thumbs too short and they have those seems right at the tip of the thumb ... maybe my thumb is just too big but i've never had issues with other gloves and if i got the XL's they would be too big

I've always gone with the idea of true winter cycling gloves are either the lobster type or look the same as 'normal' gloves. I've always wondered whether the type of gloves that construction workers use would be good for cycling. They would be good for the cold and they would need good use of their hands.
I don't know where a construction worker would shop, but markswork warehouse?

I've not been for a couple of months, but the Wednesday nights were just rides around different areas for fun, no racing (Sprints were a feature, but seemed to have taken a backseat).
"Track tricks" was something started on Tuesday nights by Tom Mosher at Trinity Bellwoods (later they started going to the Polo at that park at Dundas/Bathurst I think) but I've only been there a couple of times and it might have died off with the weather.

I am using some MEC windblocker gloves right now, very thin and comfy. They seem to be good to amout -2/3 degrees. I like the lobster gloves in the real cold times. I used the Swix brand before, very comfy but not warm enough. The MEC ones are better as I can weat thin liner gloves as well.
