so it was fine for 6 mos? then fail fail fail? hmmm does sound like the chain, does it have more slack than it used to? Did you take the wheel off a couple weeks ago perchance?

You could get a new chain for under 10 bucks and see if that solves the problem.

I tightened the chain and tensioner and no problems on the way home. I'm going to get a new chain and see how that works out.

It sounds like it's the chain based on this and your other thread. If your chainring isn't too chewed up it should be an easy fix

Chainring is 6 months old in still in pristine shape. I'm 99% sure it is the chain.

Holy hell it is COLD

You mean when I wipe my nose with my glove, and it freezes while still on my glove, it's not normal? (Yes, this happened tonight...)

Wasn't so bad when I was coming back down tonight but I was home early at around 5:30, so was still 'warm'. I know it's gone an extra level of cold when my drinks start to freeze. Last Friday my bottle had frozen and it took 30 minutes of being directly on a radiator to thaw. Yeah, that windchill kicked the proverbial bottom.

Another tell tale sign is when I 'grow' a frost beard on my balaclava from all of the breath/moisture from my mouth/nose :)

tdot-miele
12-12-08, 11:06 PM
atleast it's on the balaclava... the moustache part of me beard froze today from breath moisture hahaha

Another wheel question... i know your not supposed to reuse rims.... but can i lace a new rim onto a hub that i've been running for a while??

Flimflam
12-12-08, 11:48 PM
Ouch! I get cracked skin when the moisture freezes on my nostrils and goes to town :S

Yeah - cavernmech rebuilt an old hub off my roadbike onto a new rim. Assuming no damage, you should be fine.

Witness the North American Duppy in his natural habitat. This particular Duppy has been witnessed many times in this part of the conservation area. His radio tag has allowed us to track his movements both before and after his species' odd safety meetings.

I made breakfast for Alan Cox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Cox) when I worked as a short order cook (he had a full nerd entourage, btw). I didn't actually tell him I recognized him though because that would have been far too difficult for anyone to explain or comprehend at that hour of the morning.

I worked in a nice club back in the day and served Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman when they were living in Toronto. They just walked in on their own, no entourage or handlers or anything, it was weird. They were really nice and she is drop dead gorgeous in person.

in case anybody was wondering what igor has been up to lately: http://www.thestar.com/Crime/article/553743.

and i tried to resist but since we're alll doing it, these are a few of the folks i've worked with in the past 7 years: Cindy Crawford(special k commercial), Catherine Zeta Jones(t-mobile commercial a few years ago and a japanese hair commercial this summer), Wayne Gretzky(ford commercial), Antonio Banderas(cologne commercial), Billy Ray Cyrus(music video), William Shatner(All Bran commercial), Michael Madsen(a movie I worked on in april that isn't out yet, shhhh), ok this is getting long and boring and I haven't even started with directors and D.O.P.s but i will mention one more person only because he is the nicest man in the film industry and i get to work with him quite a bit, Dean Cundey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005678/).

Funny how much your priorities change in the winter. I get into work dripping wet and covered with grit and salt. Co worker says to me;

"Man, that's some terrible weather to be riding in today"

"No actually it was kind of nice"

"haha, yeah right"

"No seriously, if there's zero possibility of ice, it's good weather to be riding in december"

And as for the shoe thing, you also have to admit the guy throwing had pretty good aim. If George hadn't ducked both shoes would have hit him square in the face. That's a whole lot better than I can throw a shoe

i'd say that you have to be pretty damn angry to throw a shoe like that, and to throw two shoes! that puts your anger in what i like to call "the ridiculous range". can't blame the guy though, i'd probably throw a shoe at bush if i had the chance.

"In Arab culture it's considered rude even to display the sole of one's shoe to a fellow human being.

Certainly, crossing one's legs ankle-on-knee style should never be done in a public place for fear of offending the person next to you.

The sensitivity is related to the fact shoes are considered ritually unclean in the Muslim faith.

In addition to ritual ablutions before prayer, Muslims must take off their shoes to pray, and wearing shoes inside a mosque is forbidden."

Nah dude it's nice. If you've got a water proof jacket it's actually really warm and comfortable out. Save for the headwind if you're going west, it's a good day to be on a bike.
