Rides and Races - Toronto Fixed

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Urbane had a built up KHS right in the front door area on a stand, but that was last Friday. I didn't look around the bikes to see if they had anymore.
Even after my recent breakage with my eggbeater, I'm still OK with them - I've not yet serviced any of my CB pedals either yet.
Took the past couple of days off as I had a bit of a twinge in my right knee and it being holy-damn-jesus-that's-cold degrees outside AND being on early starts (5:45) was enough to convince me to take the bus up to Keele/Steeles (and allowed me a bit more sleep :)). Todays ride felt both fresh and a bit stiff, if that makes any sense.

cool. i guess....
well, got back from biseagal. love the place! its the shop where pretty much anything with metal is possible!
My fork idea got shunned by pretty much anywhere, and my other idea of extending a threaded fork was like speaking of war at an obama campaign.
both of which are VERY easily possible by the guys at biseagal. have an old road frame with aggressive geo that you would want to put track ends on? or respace the rear triangle to match? re-rake a fork?
I suppose most of the guys that frequent this thread know of the top notch work, but for the trollers, im decent at building stuff together, but in the event that its something beyond me, i'd certainly return to them for any ideas, or heavy duty repairs - without hesitation or the very common "we don't do that, your bike will explode, you will die and we do not want any liability"
fork is reamed and hopefully there will be some riding happening with all the warmish weather coming the next few days...

It is gorgeous out there. It felt so nice to ride without gloves, I feel like my handlebars are so thin!

Yeah it was beautiful, and still is - After coming back down from North York, I stopped in at home for a safety meeting and then spent the next 5 hours riding around downtown, couldn't resist the milder weather. Can't wait for more (tomorrow?!)

Fun ride today. It's great to finally be out on the bike for awhile again and not have to worry about body parts freezing solid and dropping off.
Part 2 should be tomorrow morning if anyone's interested.

That's the '09 demo model. They told me they won't have them in stock until late March.

Same time and place tomorrow.
would that be 8:30 or 9?
Also had a fun ride today.
Was a fun ride. Are we changing the route tomorrow? Maybe a road ride, or change directions?

So,what's the plan for tomorrow? Who's in? I vote for a similar meetup time (that I'll actually be on time for this time). Meet up at 8:30-8:45, start riding at 9:00. I say we meetup at Darkhorse this time though, just to, you know, mix things up a little. ;)
I was thinking we could just ride down to say Ashbridges Bay, and then ride the Martin Goodman Trail out to Humber Park and back. Unless someone else has a better relaxed route to suggest.
Cheers,
Wes
ps. Andre got a CX bike! woot!

8:30/8:45 meet at the Darkhorse, 9:00 ride. Since I just got home from catering, I doubt Port Credit is inn the cards for me.
I think I will sleep instead. Have fun you guys!

Ok here is a question!
I have a buddy that lost virtually all mobility in one knee ( he hAs 50* flex in his knee). He wants to get back into riding but he doesn't have A bike. In the spring we will hold some fundraisers and buy him a new bike.
So here is my question. What do we do with his injured leg? It doesn't bend enough to rotate on a normal length crank, and if we shortened the crank, the other leg wouldn't rotate correctly.
And pedalstrike would be an issue if his foot just sat at the bottom all the time...
His injured leg is the left, so nondeive side, and it's a bike that will be used every day on the roads.
And if your up for it a list of parts.
I met a guy the other day that had a solution that worked for him, but this is presuming that the mobility isn't returning? A 20 pound weight for a pedal combined with a peg, though this fellow had no leg on that side and no prostetic so he didn't need a peg. It'd work pretty easily on a recumbent too.
This guy he told me it worked really well and I believed him, especially when the next thing he asked was where to complain about TTC buses refusing him rides home when he goes on long rides out of the core. Said he'd find himself way north and west sometimes, and when he'd try to ttc home instead of riding they would turn him down?! He'd have to wait sometimes 3-4 buses for a driver with common sense to come along, they'd tell him "no bikes" or "no bikes at this time" (rush hour? I didn't ask, didn't matter). He'd tell them that this ain't no bike it's my gettin around, like a wheel chair, and show them that he had one leg and they'd tell him didn't matter, no bikes, and leave. Wow. The drivers with sense let him on without question.
Anyway, good to see the bffsggfsfg forum is still going strong, cya around, but only if you notice peds at all. I'm only riding my ute a little these days, but I'm getting a cheap bike for getting around, one of those SE things, the people that make the pkripper? With some risers and new parts it'll be a fine getting around bike.
Sorry I had to bail today, but last night I ate some AMC popcorn that gave me a raging headache, which resulted in very little sleep. Next weekend, I guess.
AMC popcorn. Is that what the kids are calling it these days?

Haha...
Good ride, though the foot bath wasn't so good ;) Good to see duppy out and about, too.
I ended up going to Port Credit after a pit stop at home - Memorial Park is lovely. I'd also never seen the wrecked ship blocking the harbour entrance before - I assume it's a winter/weather thing, unless I just never noticed it when I was there in summer. Ride there was a bit blowy at times, but was surprisingly decent going - the ride home was really quite beautiful, and fast (at least it felt that way :))
the ship at port credit has been there for years and years.
I was gonna come out... but the tires I wanted to use were at the shop and I didn't feel like going there last night and then coming home and changing them. Next weekend indeed! I want to do a shakedown ride on my ice racer.

Hey, can anyone recommend a good rain riding jacket to get? I need one with a hood, pref one which can fit a helmet if possible, and not too expensive.
Fixed.
You all laugh now, but wait until I start cruising around on a kids supercycle with busted brakes in a full length parka. I expect to have lost most of my teeth by next weekend.

Back from Kearney and a fantastic weekend of ice racing. We were a "Demonstration Sport" as part of the annual dog sled races which have been held for 15 years. The Mayor came out to officially open our event and welcome all the racers to town. Tons of good racing and carousing was the order of the weekend. I set up my 29er fixed and after tuning my tires last week I was Giv'n Er. I ended up second to my bud Barry after we decided to have a coin toss to decide the winner. We had an awards ceremony with the Mushers after all the competition was over with prizes for everyone who took part. The locals loved it and we had tons of questions about making tires and bike set-up. We were asked to do an event with a huge snowmobile racing event next year. They have promised us a banked ice oval to race on! Good Times!
p.s. Wes...you suck!

My roommate came to me yesterday and said "I want to by a road bike". Once I wiped the look of surprise off my face, I got that she had a budget of 1000-1500 (lower is better) and wants one that she can use as a beginner but will be ok as she gets better. She won't race, but she wants something relatively light.
I was thinking that an 08 is likely fine, does anyone know of any stores with good deals on 48-52 cm road bikes in that range?

Is buying a used bike out of the question? I have seen some pretty good deals on Pinkbike.com and CanadianCyclist.com, this is the time of the year when racers get rid of their old rides as they upgrade for the '09 season...

I'm stuck inside now too, but I did get in 120km yesterday after all was said and done - was blissful, and today is beautiful as well - I'm strongly considering just riding home from Whitby (with a tailwind, I'm *very* tempted!)

Anyone know a person with a white frame, green rims (deep v's?), risers and a front (and maybe rear) disc brake. It definitely wasn't fixed. It might have had an internally geared rear hub, or it could have been a SS.
Its a shaft drive internal 8sp. Neat to look at. Heavy. Rides ok.
