2009 Major Jake. Took off a bunch of stock stuff for some upgrades. Ultegra shifters, OCCTO carbon bar, Thomson Elite X2 Stem, Specialized Toupe saddle and DT Mon Chasseral wheels. Putting on a Thomson post when I figure out my position a bit better..not sure if I need a setback or not. I just came in from her shakedown cruise and I am verry happy. 19.2 POUNDS OF CROSS RACING, CAR CRUSHING FURY!!!

19.2lbs?! Holy ****e, beautiful (love those rims).

My buddy actually lives at Sammon/Linsmore, right up the street from your new place Pyze, so we'll have to get something organised (he doesn't really ride, but I often stop by his on my way home) for sure.

Looking like some dedicated wind (35-40km/h) from the NW for the donut tomorrow, along with some rain apparently... aiieee! Sunday looks friendlier, but eh, that may end up changing anyway.

Who's still in?

No Campy Record 11 speed? If this was posted on April 1 I would have thought you were joking. Now I just think it's sad :D No, that's a sweet looking ride!

Not at all, I had a blast this morning, some places on Danforth the water was deep enough that I had a wake trailing behind my wheels. Only issue was my feet got a little cold but otherwise this morning was fun.

I was really soaked (i.e. water was squirting from my shoes as I walked to my office) and my glasses were so foggy and wet I could barely see ahead :p Good thing I had a change of clothes!

Nice ride Mr. Cavernmech!

Rain, definitely not- I don't mind the rain one bit. When the wind is gusting to ~50km/h however, that's definitely not enjoyable.

yeah gusts are supposedly up to 50km/h and i heard on cityTV that it could even reach 70km/h.

..........so u have rain blowing into ur face

.............ur trying to see the person ahead of u travelling at 15km/h

...........ur drafting their water spray that's also being blown into your face.

..........and then u have climbs......

and this goes on for 3 hrs...

hmm.. count me in for sunday.

sidenote: cavernmech, i know u helped me out with wheels before and with a couple hundred kms on them they are still perfectly true....

does anyone here have any leads to 1 Ambrosio 19 Extra Super Elite rear wheel? 700c?

turns out my rear wheel has a flatspot, radial out of round of about 0.75mm... it lasts about 3 spokes, so when i try to true it, the spokes by the flatspot are no longer in tension..

I don't notice it when riding, or when coasting at 120psi.

Should i worry? is this "in spec" for older box rims with no aero section?

I doubt this is a rolling grenade, but anyone have anything old for sale?

when the rest of the wheel is true/tensioned, its a nice strong wheel and has stayed laterally true even along really rough roads.

yeah, I think I'm switching to sunday as well. Rain or wind on their own--ok, but 50km gusts with rain doesn't sound like fun.

And +1 on the sweet ride. Looks like lots of fun.

Singlespeed CX bike now has a blinged out carbon fork (so fresh/so clean). On the ride home from Cycle Solutions I realized that the new fork also jacked up the front end of the bike about 10mm (and drove the nose of my saddle about 10mm into my junk). Should probably take a look at that. *cough*

Yeah based on my brief ride this morning, I think it's a good plan to switch to Sunday. When I'm being blown about with that kind of force it's actually kinda scary.

Married to Campy hubs.. bombproof messenger wheels in Montreal's potholes and cobblestones.
If I have a set of Mavic Aksiums with the rear being able to accept a ShimaNO cluster... what needs to be done to convert that to Campy compatibility?

Most likely fixed, might throw a 16T on the back in place of the 15... and it's unlikely I'll get my road bike tweaked up ready... it's a neglected beater these days.

You can get a campy freehub body for it and change it out. Those wheels are pretty common, so it shouldn't be a big hastle finding one.

Campy 10 speed isn't compatible with Shimano 10 speed, although works fine on Shimano 9 speed clusters. I guess you'd have to set your limit screws to prevent the chain from being thrown...

Riding in this morning wasn't as miserable as the cold/wet clothes I'm going to ride home in :P If everyone is doing the donut on Sunday instead, then I will do the same. Nice as my cross bike is, it would be preferable to do that ride on a road bike without fenders.

A couple of weeks ago I responded to an ad for a "raising bicycle" and ended up with an old Bianchi that came with an extra set of wheels and the rear is this exact wheel. You can have it, I think the hub is a Rino or something but there are 3 broken spokes.

You can run a J-tek shiftmate which allows pretty much any inter-gruppo compatability

I have set up several bikes with different drivetrain combo's with J-teks and they have all worked very well.

On another un-related note. I happened to be working on a Giant road bike yesterday that had been in a collision with a car. After a very thorough cleaning, inspecting the frame and fork for damage and checking all the frame and dropout alignments, I tuned it up..trued the wheels and readied it for a test ride. We test ride everything that comes in for service. As it was torrentially raining I decided to forgo the usual around the block ride and just run it through the shop until I could take it out for a proper shakedown. As i got to the front of the shop and went to turn the front wheel, I heard what can only be described as a loud crunch as the left fork blade shattered right in the middle of the tube. If it was bigger than a 50cm bike I would have hit the floor of the shop...if it hadn't been raining I would have been picking up my chicklets off the street with busted fingers. I went over this fork very carefully and it showed no outward signs of damage. I don't know what the moral of the story is but it scared the crap out of me.

Tour of Pelham was a muddy mess today. I very much enjoyed toodling around on my ride and taking pics rather than racing. Mike...fix your alarm clock pronto!

Hmm how well would that jtek work older shimano 105 6-speed downtube shifters?

Maybe campy wheels are in the cards for late later this year...

Who is up for tmrw? Gonna be colder tho.

Yeah...one of the older flat style Giant forks. Not a fault with the fork itself...they used that fork for many years...but the unseen impact forces. It was crazy. The right blade came right off the crown after the left shattered as well.

they're made mostly for recent stuff, 8-10 speed

the models are listed at the link cavit8 posted: http://jtekengineering.com/shiftmate.htm

Word to that. Is Barry giving you a lift up to Uxbridge? If so I might try to snag a ride and do the 25k course. Yes, I'll be the guy camped out in the parking lot to make sure I'm there on time.

I try really hard not to think about broken forks. There are certain riding situations that scare me (which I superstitiously don't discuss) but as far as mechanical failures go a broken fork has always spooked me the most.
