Question is which part will fail next? My money is on the Tange Sekkei headset or the Maillard freewheel. If the latter, then I get to find out what kind of threading is on the rear hub (Campy Athena, c1987/88). Will it be English, Italian, French... Swiss???

Down for the Don ride tomorrow - see you guys/gals @6PM?

Hmmm... I'm going with the freewheel. You might want to be proactive and replace it now. I once had an old freewheel fail on me on a ride. It simply stopped being a freewheel and kept those cranks turning while I was nearly thrown over my handlebars, caught completely unaware (while coasting).

and just curious, is the Don ride a regular occurrence? I'm thinking of getting my first mountain bike (GF 29er--can't decide on the model) this summer, and want to get more acquainted with the Don trail system.

+1 looks funky
where'd you get it?

Thanks! I snagged it on the Kitchener Kijiji; I've had this nice Battaglin-embossed Cinelli stem sitting on my desk for about 6 years and I have never seen a Battaglin up for sale in my size. So, when this bike came up, I borrowed a friend's car and hauled ass. It is in pretty rough shape, aesthetically but dang, it rides well.

Kergin, yep, the hubs roll smooth but one of the cones is kinda loose, the previous owner really hasn't ridden it in years so I will have to re-pack the hubs soon.

Dang that's a nice score. Similar to your line of thinking, I've got a Guerciotti/3TTT stem on my Miele which I've long viewed as sufficient justification to buy a steel Guerciotti frame, if I could only find it... please post up if you ever see one in the 58-59 cm range.

has anyone else noticed a recognizeable increase in bike traffic around toronto even for this time of year?? It can be a bit frustrating when you're trying to keep your cadence up hill... but on the plus, cars are starting go pay more notice too

I guess this answers my question after I saw that movie of who would be stupid enough to transport deadly snakes on a passenger flight?

I had to google this woman because I have never heard of Elizabeth Hassleback before but yeah, a bike to the face sounds like some pretty good justice for a nutjob like this.

I got the weirdest project yesterday. My mom's neighbour has to walk with a cane due to an industrial accident many years ago. She is a nice woman and we often talk about bikes because she really misses cruising around on her old bike. Yesterday, she calls up my mom and asks for my help with this odd bike that a friend gave her. I went and picked it up and yeah, it is this completely crazy-awesome 3-wheeled trike-buggy thing! I will have to take a photo, it is wild and looks like it would be the best ever CM bike. I don't know where it came from but all three wheels are taco'd and it needs a fair bit of work but it should be fun and it will be great for her to get around on...

With intent or was he just not looking? Time to dish out the *handslap* - even rapping your knuckles on the body sounds pretty loud, try that.

Stay safe!

I also had to Google who that Elizabeth Hasselbeck chick was - still not too much wiser given I've never seen anything she's been in/on. Main thing is that the messenger is OK.

I lol'd @ the athiests line :)

I've always kinda wanted an adult trike, sounds damn cool :D And what a great project - good for you helping and her for wanting to get back out and about regardless.

He came up alongside me as we were both coming up to a right turn so he could have been trying to get me to stop so he could cut me off, or he might have been setting up for the turn and just never noticed me entirely. Either way the handslap on a passenger side window always works like a charm in those instances.

I also had to look up who the elizabeth hasselbeck was;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Hasselbeck

I'm not sure anyone deserves to have a bike messenger crash into their face, but this is probably as close as it gets

Be in a place where you can get around on the left of them as well if need be.

I prefer knuckles to sheet metal... makes a much better noise inside the vehicle. Sounds like...... damage...which ensures an immediate backing off. :) OR, a really good marching-up-and-down-the-parade-square "oi!!!!" If you can reach out without stretching to touch the car then they are way too close..... they seem to understand that logic when speaking to drivers. "Dude, I didn't have to try to touch you all I did was reach out and tapped...that's how close you were."

She's a tool, but I can't rah rah a preggo gettin' hit. Sorry lads, NOW if she wasn't pregnant, I'd be laughing my ass off.

OHOHOH got my first cab hail high five the other day going up Yogne. She was hailing, I moved over the tagged her out stretched hand... fun stuff, and she didn't freak out either.

Yeah, ideally if you can't get around a car (in my case I couldn't really) you should have already done something to keep yourself out of that position if things go south. My own fault for not recognizing what it almost always means when a cabbie speeds up next to you and then slows down...

Nice one on the cab hail

I ordered some wheels last summer, from Bicycle Wheel Warehouse I think. When they arrived I didn't have to pay anything, and the sticker thing on it said it was: a heart rate monitor, a "gift" (why I didn't have to pay I guess), and it was apparently bound for Paris, France.... but the wheels were what I ordered :D

Remember the Rotor "swiss cheese" cranks?

http://www.cyclingnews.com/photos/2009/tech/probikes/carlos_sastre_cervelo_testeam_s3/17rotorchainset.jpg

Turns out what was glaringly obvious to everyone was proven by the EFBe (who do strength/durability testing) so Rotor scrapped the design for this:

Maybe these ones won't snap quite so easily.

I ordered from PBK a few weeks ago, my package shows up, yay! new bike stuff. i order again, a package shows up, boo! I gotta pay duty this time.:notamused: Shouldn't it be consistent? And the second time the order was for half as much $

PBK, if you get hit is always minimum $5 "brokerage" fee, then 13% tax on the items. If you get clothing, be prepared to get smacked for something on top of previously mentioned fees. It's really a bonus if it slips through customs without any charge. So yes it is random whether or not they'll tag your package to collect.

Oh and Nadir, this is an internet call out because you're such an awesome guy. Note extreme sarcasm in the last sentence. Apparently I don't know what a 26" wheel is, but neither do you.

*sigh* ... I'm thinking about switching back to Eggbeaters from my ATAC XSs. The ATACs are so much more solid in general but the non-drive one is creaking. Also, I really miss being able to clip in by sliding my foot forward onto the pedal as well as pulling my foot backward across the pedal to clip in, which I can't do with Times.

Looks like I'm riding the Times as is this Sunday and then next week I'll have to decide whether to shell out some $$$ to rebuild the Times or the Crank Bros. Boourns. Too much more of this and I'm going back to WTBs with Power Grips.

question guys... how well does white bar tape hold up? I mean i know it's not gonna stay new; but does it just go grey real quick??
I'm thinking of puttin some white tape on my drops...

I have white bar tape on three of my bikes and yeah, it gets a bit grey but it does look pretty good. MEC sells some really great Planet Bike handlebar wrap for only $7, that is what I use and it lasts for quite some time. Just be a little extra careful and it will rock hard on that bike.

I have a Fuji Tarck that I am going to powder-coat white and have black components with white bar-wrap. A white saddle will never work for me, I am just too gross.

Off to Paris-Ancaster. Good luck to everyone who is going. 1650 registered! If you guys didn't get in the first or second wave...get there extra early...Nothing like getting to the mud bog sections after 1500 other people have trashed it.

Paris -Ancaster! Best of luck all. Wish I was riding.

Does anyone have a spare set of SIDI Adaptor plates for LOOK cleats that they could send my way? Thanks in advance.
