Nope - i'm no professional (actually i've never worked in a restaurant before) i just want to change careers. actually make that, FIND a career, or at least a job i like.

yes, susur lee is an interesting guy. not your typical european trained chef.
Next American Iron Chef....he's on.

mmm.. food. I've considered that option at times as well. But then I decided that the potential for careers to destroy hobbies makes me shy away from being a full time cook. :)

edit: ps. I want a wool jersey. recommendations?

well, i'm worried about that a little but cooking seems to be the only thing i'm good at. at least i'll never ride a bike for a living.

there are a few makers of wool jerseys out there. if you want a cheap vintage one there's always some available in the shops in kensington market. i just bought a new one from an ebay seller. it's an Allesandro/Woolistic and it is about as nice as they come. cut like a euro race jersey, i wish i had bought one size up but it fits well for a tight-fitter.
i'd say stay away from those wool blend ones as they are mostly polyester anyway. look for 100% merino wool. i think swobo is back in business, allesandro like i said and another company called portland cyclewear, also selling on ebay. look nice on line but haven't seen them in the flesh.

Will you guys shut up about food? You're getting me hungry, which means I'll go shopping on the way home and end up eating Ruffles and dip and stoned wheat thins and cheese whiz for supper. Never go shopping for food when you're hungry. At least I shouldn't...

Somnabulent: I get my woolies off ebay. I have one that's a little snug on me that you can have if you don't mind wearing Italian with photocopier company logos on it. Some small holes in the pits, but otherwise fine.

Cavernmech: do you sell 3/32 cogs for level hubs? I was just at their website and I saw I'd been under the mistaken impression that they just did 1/8" cogs.

There's a place in Kensington market that has a bunch of wool jerseys for $25 each

I'm not exactly sure of the name of the place

They'll probably give you a deal too, I got 4 jerseys for $75 bucks.

is that queen/pape? cursory google didn't come up with anything. the line-ups at nobu were totally ridiculous. not sure if it was worth the hype if morimoto wasn't even helming the kitchen. have you checked out his philly place? it's been open for awhile now methinks.

Yup to Queen/pape, this guy was Morimoto's right hand apparently. My wife and daughter's love his sushi, he kicks butt. AND has a sushi class 150 bucks, 6 hours, and you go home with a giant platter. Making rice, making the sushi rice, prepping, etc....cool.

Speaking of sushi... since New Generation burned down, I've been searching for a new New Generation. Sushi Time and Big Sushi (?) don't do it for me. There's a place on the south side of Bloor just east of Christie that I like, but haven't fallen in love with. The food is good, decent portions, economical, friendly staff. Is there a place you keep going back to? Do tell.

Terrible service was just the start, never again. I don't do sushi but I like other Japanese dishes.

mmmmmm Korean Grill..... always a hit for the meat intensive chow down.
the Sushi Marche has no eat in facilities, but you can fax your order in and pick it up at your leisure.

I've been to most of the Japanese restos on Bloor, so it may be time to explore other environs. I'll be checking put Nama and avoiding Sushi Time on Queen.

BTW I'll be checking out the Jet Fuel / UTW thing also... Friday then?

Sushi Time on Queen has been TERRIBLE since it moved a few buildings down. The last time I went, three seperate tables walked out becasue the service was so slow and the sushi bar took over 45min to make my Hockey Sushi. The Bloor location is much, much better.

sorry for the late reply eyefloater

from what I remember if your standing on the north-west corner of Spadina and Dundas and go west on Dundas it's on the first street you come to on the north side of Dundas

I'm not sure of the name of the street but it's about three or four doors north on the east side next to the place with all the ventriloquist dummies in the window.

I hope that helps, do my directions make any sense?

Osaka Sushi at Bloor and Keele for you westenders. great sushi chef, unpretentious, great staff and are actually japanese (if that matters - points for authenticity anyways). i also enjoy the creative naming of the dishes: "crazy boy roll", "skydome roll", "ninja roll".

prices are fine for quality sushi - about $10-12 a roll (they're pretty large, about 10 or so big pieces). sashimi and a la carte rolls are extra but not mucho expensive.

i don't know about sushi (i'm trying to save for school and i just bought a new frame + import duties argh! and just got an old one painted to no more 'fun' money till next pay), but i could be convinced to go for a ride. i'm off work at 5.

ah the post-exam relief! those are fond memories, yet fading ones.

Never been to Cycle Therapy I heard they don't build bikes but I LOVED that old bike you have hanging on the wall in the shop

Steeker: Cycle Therapy has new digs now with full bikes, etc. I'm sure Eyefloater could speak about that a little better though! :)

Also.. is anyone up for maybe a ride and some food tomorrow after work, and then we can head over to Jet Fuel together? Maybe we could ride out to the beach and grab some food out there someplace, just for a non-Kensington change of scenery. I don't know that area too well, but it looks like a good place for a beer and some food on a sunny Friday!

the forecast was calling for rain but it's sunny now as i look out my window. i brought my cycling clothes to work so i'll probably ride so long as it's not full-out thunder and lightning. let me know what you're up for.

It says a T-Storm in the afternoon, i'm not sure anymore. Get back to you in a couple mins.
