I'd check over the bike before I did anything close to extreme on the bike. Most bikes from dept stores are pretty poorly adjusted but if you know what you're doing, it should be fine.

yea i know what you mean, i'm having the shop adjust the derailer(spelling) and get the brakes just right, i don't feel safe unless i have strong ass brakes. How much air should i put in the tires?

How much air should i put in the tires?I suggest that you bring your bike to one (or more) of your local bicycle shops and let the mechanics have a look while you ask them that question. We'd do it here, but BikeForums doesn't let us see your bike ;)

I had a $69.95 toys r us hardtail with knobbies that I did a 12 mile commute with for about a month, I would regularly hit 25+ mph going down a hill fine with knobbies at 50psi.

I guarantee I'd bend and or break that thing before I hit 20 mph let alone 25. April Fools was 3 days ago.

Depends how quickly and in which manner you get back to 0mph.

20, if your very lightweight, and thoroughly checked the bike first, as well as upgraded the brake calipers. Seriously, the weakest point of those bikes are the brakes....at 15mph I was able to bend the front caliper so badly I had to have it replaced....and that was from a single emergency stop! Every 5mph is basically twice the impact force, so lets put it this way...for a 260lb rider (i was at that time), anything above 15mph, your pretty much screwed.

30, heck no! I done that ONCE on my old roadmaster...I ate many feet of pavement a few seconds later....it's not advisable...pavement is not tasty, and roadrashed bodies tend to pay more attention to pain then the nice cooling breeze going across your freshly disintegrated shirt. What happened was somehow the rear wheel seized momentarily, causing the rear wheel to washout from under me.

i'm 15 and weight only 105 pounds and i eat bar-b-q everyday and alota fat, but i'm so active. Also, since i cooked my brakes racing & downhilling today, i just bought some fairly strong brake pads that i will install tommorw when i wake up. After i got the bike, i did some brake tweeking and got it stoping on a dime untill i cooked them.

Yes, if you can take a fall. I have done 20-30 mph on Walmart and Kmart bikes. They are so heavy, if you can get them up that fast, way to go. I have one up to 35 mph and when over the handle bars, only bent the front tire up.
