Someone is offering a bike to me....
A 'late 80's' model Bianchi Forte Mountain Bike. Suntour XCE derailleur and XCM shifters. 18" (?) Cro-Moly frame in black with some color of trim that looks like either creamy lime or mint chocolate chip ice cream. 21-speed suspension-free.
It doesn't appear to have any damage to the frame other than paint chipping and what appears to have been a lot of chain slap. Everything seems to work.
Owner says was used in high school only and was only used as a laundry stand since. Camera is down so no pics unfortunately.
Does anyone know anything at all about this model?
Thanks!

What are you going to use it for and how much is he offering?
It's got no suspension, and I assume that the frame is made of iron, which will be pretty heavy. Well, personally I will not consider a bike that is heavy.
Nevertheless, it's up to you.

I don't know about that particular bike, but I have a 90 Bianchi Sika (about $650 new in 90), which is a double butted, gussetted cro moly steel frame with full Deore LX components (21 speed), Ritchey "Vantage" wheels, originally a Ritchey "pro logic" rigid fork. FWIW, my bike has held up extremely well for the 12 years that I've owned it. For 4 of those years it saw pretty hard use on the trails around Chico, California (while I was in college). The bike has received minimal maintenance but still has not given me any excuse to get rid of it and buy a new bike. It's definitely heavier than the current crop of bikes, but at 200 lbs. myself I'm heavier than I should be anyways so I can't really complain about it!
Basically what I'm saying is that my experience with a Bianchi bike has been nothing but positive so if the price is right I'd say go for it.

Here's a very poor photo of the bike. It is fairly heavy by today's standards and it needs a full tune up, lube and cleaning. My girlfriend is showing some interest in wanting a bike so I thought this would be a good, inexpensive candidate for a starter bike.
