Woody's post made me think... I'd really love to see a Canadian men's road trade team... Whould would I have on it?
Michael Barry (USPS)
Eric Wohlberg (Saturn)
Mark Walters (Navigators)
Gord Fraser (Mercury)
Roland Green (Trek-VW)
Svein Tuft (Prime Alliance)
Charles Dionne (7UP-Nutra Fig)
Peter Wedge (Kona) gotta have a cyclocrosser
And I'd scout the criterium scene for some hot young finishers.
It's a damned shame that Canada doesn't have a pro men's trade team.

You could always look for Lance, and hire a private militia to kidnap him, so you can have him on your team. You could offer simoni some coke, and im sure he would join you.:D
Maybe Canada is just to cold and baren of a place to have a pro men's trade team.

'pedio,
Not such a bad team. It would be a powerhouse in North America and a real up-and-comer across the pond. I'd love to see Roland in Paris-Roubaix.
Unless they ride with skates on, though, I doubt any Canadian company would sponsor them. Imagine being clipped in!!:D

True, Woody, true...
On the other hand, I was at the Little Italy Criterium stage of the Tour de Grand Montreal last night. This is a women's pro race, and you wouldn't believe the organization that Team Rona has. Rona is a hardware store chain in Quebec; nothing special, but it has outfitted the team with everything you could imagine. I saw the Team Saturn women climbing into a non-descript, over-loaded minivan after the race, and the TalgoAmerica.com women using cars, but Rona had two team cars and a box van. Impressive.
Sadly, though, men's cycling has to be BIG in Canada before any company would sponsor it, but it's never going to get big until a Canadian company sponsors it. That sucks.
On the other hand, you can field a strong division 2 team in Europe for $2.5 million... maybe we could get President's Choice or Air Canada to do something...

Yeah...
You know, you Canadians ought to get it together and put together a team. A pro Canadian bicycling team is the only thing that could prevent the coming US invasion of Canada. Tell that to your government and you'll have a team in a jiffy.:D Really though, if the US Postal Service can have their own pro team to show off rather nicely, you guys ought to have one. I mean, the difference in national power between the US and Canada is often brought up, but in WWIII Canada will whoop Belgium. Prove it on the Tour of Flanders.
I agree, even though I may make fun of Canada, I think a Canadian team is long overdue. You guys managed to get away (for the most part) from Britian w/o bloodshed, so you guys have my (however insignificant) blessings.
Re: Canadian Pro Team
FYI, Eric Wohlberg (CAN) lives and trains in the USA. I think maybe it's because it's easier to train during the off-season in CA(ifornia) rather than CA(nada).
