Recumbent - where to shop

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
This is my first post so hope I am in the right place. Am relatively new to bicycling but have an interest in looking for a "bent" due to carpal tunnel and some minor back issues. I am getting hooked on the sport/activity fast and based on past history will stay with it and likely become an avid participant. Have ready many of the posts on this forum. I am wondering if anyone knows of a dealership(s) in the Detroit, MI metro area that has a large selection of recumbents which I can demo and who has a good reputation. My "google" search did not pan out well. I live near Jackson, MI but have family in the Detroit area. Hope this is the proper place to ask this question. If not, apologies. Thanks.

You might check with Wolverbent, a recumbent club that operates out of the greater Detroit area.

They have announced a May 14 Gathering:
"The annual Michigan Recumbent Rally East will be held on Saturday, May 14th at the Willow Metropark pool shelter from 9am-3pm. Willow Metropark is located in the southwest Detroit area, off exit 11 of I-275 and just south of I-94/Detroit Metro airport. The Rally will include recumbent displays, dealers, test rides, a "buying your first recumbent" talk at 11am and l1pm, used recumbents and a noon group ride.
For more information, including map links, visit www.wolverbents.org or e-mail wolverbob@cs.com
The event is free (except for a $4 park admission fee) and there is no registration."
The announcement for this event is on the "Bent rider online" Message Board under "Classifieds"/"Events".

Good luck,

Gary,
Great information and have it on my calendar. Forums sure are a great way to find out things. Hopefully, along the way, I will have something to offer others. Thanks.
This is across the lake from you, but one of the larger dealers is
www.hostelshoppe.com in Wisconsin. Their website is worth
looking at even if you can't easily get there. Steve

In addition to the Wolverbents, there are about a hundred bent owners just north of you, it the Lansing-based Tri County Bicycle Association (http://www.biketcba.org). Look up scheduled club rides and feel free to join in. Sorry, no guarantee that bents will be at any given ride, but there's always a good chance!
Thanks again for the good info. Certainly will look into each.
