Commuting - My first dance with an automotive on the way home.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
It was a rainy day for my bike home. Hit the road with the most trafic, enjoying my ride and feeling good about riding in the rain and tuffing it out. All the sudden, a car cuts all the way across both sections of the main drag to get to my side. I was going at a good clip when I noticed I would be having a passenger side door in my face if I didnt react fast. Did a slide my right side, went under the cars front end. Perfect slide, not a scratch. Just a lot of scuffing on my road shoe and clippless pedal - the driver attempted to take off, going over the back end of my rear tire and rim. I yelled for the idiot to stop - as if his not paying attention was not enough, he couldnt have cared less about what just happened. Got up, checked my bike and I was off. Funny, I was still feeling good about the ride, eyes wide open!

In the UK, knocking down a rider like that would be careless driving, worth only a small fine, but fleeing the scene of a crash is a very serious offense.

Man, I'd have gotten his license plate and called the jerk in for leaving the scene. I don't know how you managed to stay calm but it sounds like you thought out your reaction which saved your life.
Glad you're ok and able to tell about it today.
Kathy
I concur with Kathy. Insensitive, inattentive jerks needs to be educated.
