Bicycle Mechanics - old Nishiki?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I recieved a Nishiki bike from a lady today that had bikes piled in her yard. I removed the bikes for free because I knew that Nishiki was in it. It is a Black framed bike with white seat tube abd forks. It is the 27 in wheel style and I cannot find "nishiki" on the net. I would like to get more specs on the bike. I looked all over and cannot seem to find a year of make. If anyone has any info for me I would appreciate it. I know tha tRaleigh now owns Nishiki but other than that I am at a standstill .

Maybe a picture, if you don't get many responses you could try the Classic & Vintage forum.
You might be able to identify the year the bike was built based on the components (i.e., cranks, front & rear derailluers, brakes, etc.). Give www.vintage-trek.com a vist and click on "Component Dates". Posting that information, along with the picture and frame number (underneath side of the bottom bracket) in the Classic & Vintage forum should lead to some feedback.
P.S. I just went through this same exercise with my 1980(ish) Nishiki frame and was very impressed with all the knowledgable help I recieved. Cheers.
