Touring - First panniers

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Can anyone recommend a good set of panniers to take on a 2 month tour through Europe? Something waterproof, but with the option of breathability, ideally. Thanks.
Arkel with rain covers.

I used my Performance panniers for about 12 years before I bought Arkels - depending on your needs and budget - the Performance panniers were fine for 40,000 miles - so I'd go with either. The Arkels are higher quality, but cost a lot more.

Ortlieb top rollers are dry bag waterproof but, if you don't roll the tops down they would have the option of breathability. Not cheap ($120 front/$140 rear) but they will last for many, many years. If fact, you might not need to ever by a second set ;)
