Introductions - Hi from Edinburgh

Hi everyone.

I've been looking around here for a few days and it semms so friendly i've decided to join up.

My name is James, I live in Edinburgh, Scotland.

I Commute to work on my bike everday (well, kind of, cause for the rest of this week i have a company van, but i get one of those about 3 days a year, so i think i can say i use my bike most of all :))

I cycle around on a Cannondale F800 which i've had for about 6 years now, (I treat it like the kid i never had :))

Anyway i'm a big kid myself, and i look forward to participating in some discussions.

I'm originally from Prestonfield in Edinburgh now living in Calgary Canada. I was home last year and had a great time and I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Wow, it's a small world, When did you move away?

I'm not a big football fan so i don't have a preference.

My family immigrated originally in 1973 ( I was 11) we flip flopped back and forth a couple of times but we've been here full time since 1983. All the extended family still live in the Prestonfield and Dalkeith areas.

My father came from Edinburgh and I had an uncle who was a sheriff there, but I havent been there since 1977. Lovely city.

There seems to be a large Scottish community in Canada. Do any of you guys plan on visiting Scotland at any time?

We last visited in 2003, I was planning to come this fall, hoping to ride the Ft William MTB world cup age group race and visit my family, but a new baby due in June has put an end to those plans,but you never know. If not,then for sure in 2006 or 2007.

The Montreal fur trade in the early 1800s was largely staffed by men from Scotland and the Orkneys. I want to do a tour of the part of Scotland to the North of the Caledonian canal, but I dont think it will be any time soon.

How many miles would that route take you? and where exactly is the Caledonian canal?

The Caledonian canal goes from Fort William to Inverness (Loch Ness). How many miles - lots.
