Any idea why my Shimano Ultegra wheels are leaking grease? Both the front and the rear are leaking grease on the drive side. I noticed that they were leaking when I was truing them, so I repacked them with new bearings, but noticed that they were leaking grease all three times I'm ridden them since the repack. Any idea?

Chances are as long as the hubs feel properly adjusted (no wobble when on the bike) it's just working out the excess that you put in.

Most hubs will leak some grease the first few times after you repack them _if_ you put in enough. In my experience, Dura-Ace are the only Shimano hubs that have much chance of being adjusted correctly from the factory, and with enough grease. That doesn't mean that the other hubs are crud, it just means, put enough grease in, and carefully adjust hubs, even when new.

It is a sign that you have enough grease inside to prevent the ingress of crud.
Wiping off the grease can force crud inside the bearings so if you are going to wipe the excess, do it with a clean cloth, before it picks up dust and grit. I just leave it alone and eventually it washes off but I ride in a fairly wet and non-dusty environment.

Cool! Thanks guys. I've been spinning the wheels in my hands and they still feel smooth, so I guess all is good. I've also been wiping off the excess grease with a clean cloth, but I'll stop doing that now. Thanks again.
