Bicycle Mechanics - threading a fork

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just recently purchased a colnago flash carbon fork. I have plans to put this on a track frame and was wondering if it would be possible to thread this fork to use a track quill stem.
I think it would be extremely dangerous...

I wouldn't do it.
Cutting the threads with a die will remove metal from the steerer. Even rolling the threads is going to relocate the metal. If a threadless fork has adequate wall thickness to do this safely, it must have been overweight for normal threadless use. In today's market, I doubt that's the case.

In today's market, I doubt that's the case.Actually, threadless and threaded steerers tend to be the same thickness. There is usually enough meat in a steel threadless ones. Wouldn't do in on an aluminum one. www.parktool.com has the minimum thickness need to do a threading job. Have it done by a frame builder or machinist, not nosepickers at LBS.

for what reason? I understand that threadles forks are stronger but would I really be putting myself in harms way if I had the fork threaded?
for what reason? It's just uninformed BS. If the steerer is steel,do like I said, check out park tool and get it done by someone that knows what they are doing.
