Mountain Biking - I installed ODI lock ons today.

Mmm, oury.

How could you not have already had them? Normal grips are inferior to Lock ons.
And did it without stripping the bolts.
Is this because you followed the directions or because you used the proper tool?:D

It's because I knew what I was doing with the right tool.

Mmmmm Intense ODI lock-ons. I used to have them... so soft. Also nice bike mate what is the frame it looks possibly like an AC, however, as usual, I'm probably wrong.
A trolling mod, what next? I know exactly who he's referring to.

Bah! So what are you guys doing that you need bolt-on grips? Freeriding, DJ'ing, DH'ing? I've had a grip come off the bars once(too much spray and/or not enough drying time) since I've been riding XC. Maybe it's cause they come off easier for service and whatnot? I think I've got other stuff I'd rather spend $ on.

They really dont cost much more and its so much nicer to just unbolt your grips when changing other parts plus there is no downtime to wait for the hairspray to dry.

I use them because I'm running carbon bars and really don't want any kind of chemical reaction between the fixative agent and the bars.
No chemical = no reaction.

Thanks a lot dan. I know you are implying something, and it is very evident. I've asked you once to stop, twice, this is thrice. This is becoming ridiculous dude. Bugger off.

What ever, you made the mistake, just like trekbikedude, his mistake with the $11 rimset, those mistakes a person will never live down.

No chemical = no reaction.
That's why I use compressed air.
I can see their benefit in protecting the end of the bar as long as they're not clamped too tightly...but that's probably the reason those bolts are so small, so you can't overtorque, I guess.

That's why I use compressed air.
Once it started raining around here, the grips that I put on with compressed air got pretty slippy and twisty. I'll happily shell out the extra coin for lock-ons just to know that they'll stay put until I don't want them to, and then they'll come right off.

Just don't strip the screw out when you put them on. I use warm soapy water, and have not had a single hint of trouble.

That wasn't really an issue. C'mon, allen bolts aren't exactly rocket science.

Why would you use warm soapy water for lock-ons? Mine slide on no problem. Also, what does ODI stand for?

04-08-05, 09:32 PM
Sorry, for the less brain savvy people out there, I run SPecialized BG grips; I refuse to use lock-on grips

Nope.
Well maybe not until you find some way of redeeming yourself.

It is when you're using a SAE wrench on a metric screw like some people. It calls for a 2.5mm allen not a SAE that is http://img228.exs.cx/img228/7692/almostequal4bl.jpg to a 2.3mm.

You shouldn't hold Hooligan's lack of mechanical knowledge against him. Like none of you ever stripped a thread. Sheesh.
When he got here he had no knowledge at all...why did you expect him to know any better?
Dannihilator
04-08-05, 11:41 PM
Not holding that against him, just the fact that he isn't able to accept the fact that it isn't odi's fault for it.

If ODI really cared about the consumer, they'd be shipping nothing but grade 8 hardware with their grips!

I wouldn't hold it agianst him if stuff didn't come with clearly understandable directions in 14 different languages that specifically state what tool to use AND not to overtighten the screws. Also the fact that he flat refuses to buy the correct tool while continuing to buy other items that are more expensive and less critical than having the right tool.....
Also the fact that he hangs out here doesn't help him at all, he should have learned something by now. Or at least asked first

See? Grade 8 bolts could've prevented this tragedy.
See? Grade 8 bolts could've prevented this tragedy.
Nope he would have overtightened them and stripped out the rings. Besides can you actually get a grade 8, 2.5mm screw?

How about you care less about what other people do to theyre stuff and go ride you bike and get some skills.
I'm looking for the thread where you guys pick on someone over some trivial matter, over and over and over. Is this it?
P.S. If you beat a dead horse long enough, even a dog won't eat it. Except for my dog, but he loves cat poo.

How about you get some skills on a bike, I don't need anymore. Listen I can easily whoop your ass on a bike, you shouldn't be talking.
