Mountain Biking - Shimano M505 vs M540 Pedals

I've been thinking about upgrading my M505 pedal to M540's. The 505's seem to be a bit tricky to get out of at times. Has anyone compared these two pedals? Will I find the M540s easier to release from? (particularly in the mud)

I went from 505's which came stock on my bike to the 540's. It was like night and day. The 540's ( and 520's, 959's) have a much more open design than the 505s and will actually work in the mud. I haven't had any problems getting into them no matter how crappy the conditions.

Yeah, the 505 pedals stunk, as did the old 515 design that has been replaced.

The whole 520/540/959 lineup compares to Shimano's old 535/737 line, with easy action but improved mud clearing.

The 520s are good, too, but on mine the chrome quickly began to flake from the binding surface and rusted, along with the spring (Shimano is warrantying them). I presume the 540s have a better finish.

Wow you weren't kidding about the "night and day" comment. My new 540s are way better the the 505's. Hard to believe the crappy 505's come stock on so many fairly expensive bikes.
