Bicycle Mechanics - Stupid headset question

Hi--

So my headtube internal diameter is 1 1/8 inch, and the internal diameter of the cup inside of it is 1 inch.

If I'm getting a new headset, do I get a 1 inch, or an inch-and-an-eigth?

Are you sure? I'm not, but I was leaning towards 1 inch. Also, I have all these old 70's 10-speed frames lying around, and they all have inch and an eigth internal headtube diameters. Didn't most headtubes use 1-inch headsets on 10-speeds.

I'm putting a crappy carbon fork on a crappy steel frame, and I'm not sure which ones matew with which.

Parktool.com website has the correct information on headset standards.

A 1" headset refers, I believe to the diameter of the fork steerer tube, not the head tube diameter, but please check the parktool site, it is a great "First stop" for all questions of this type.

Oops, sorry, I was wrong. Read your post wrong. The 1 and 1/8 refers to the steerer diameter, which hopefully corresponds with internal cup diameter. For some reason, I read your steerer is 1 1/8 in...
